You can use the quick release method without having any eggs blow up. All
is good there.

Trivit to Lift the eggs off the bottom so there's no direct conntact between
egg and heat source. If you presuurise, let pressure
down slowly or eggs could explode. Same as in a microwave if inside gets
past boiling.
We shell ours and call them poached.

Sorry folks it is slightly off topic. But do you need a trivet for hard
boiling eggs? I checked somewhere and the blogger said
put the eggs on Trivet.

What's the use of a trivet in the instant pot?

RE: Cult-like worshippers' turn Canadian-invented Instant Pot into a phenomenon

2018-05-12 Thread Cristóbal
Three minutes under high pressure with immediate release and thirty seconds in
cold water does the trick for me for soft boiled eggs.
Ultimately though, it's personal preference. Experiment with times to figure
out what works best for you.

Place the eggs on the rack (or trivet) that came with your InstantPot.
Then pour in a cup or 2 of water. Close the lid, set the cooking time to 4
minutes under High Pressure. Four minutes cooking under pressure,
4 minutes Natural pressure release; 4 minutes in an ice water bath -- and they
will peel perfectly and be cooked perfectly too!

Yes you need a trivet for boiling eggs. You should have gotten one when
you received your Instant Pot. It is the wire rack that keeps things off
the bottom of the pot. The reason they say to use that when steaming or
making foods like that is to keep the food off the bottom of the pot. it
heats from the bottom and if you put that kind of food directly on the
bottom it might burn. Hope this helps.

  Why not soft boiled eggs?

I mean, you could apply that same logic to anything else then. Rice,
beans, and so on. Indeed, soft boiled eggs are one of the more popular
things to throw in the instant pot.

Add about a cup of water, throw in the number of eggs you want. Be it
four, six eight. Up to how many fit. Lock the lid, seal the pressure valve.
In the app, set to manual, then three minutes under high heat. Star the
process and walk away. Just wait for it to beep. Release the steam. Fish out
the eggs and dunk in some water for thirty seconds and you have perfectly
soft boiled eggs every single time. You don’t have to worry about adjusting
for this or that if you’ve got medium or large or XL eggs. You can do six
minutes if you want hard or two if you want runny, etc.

That and another thing with the instant pot, you can set it to start
at a specific time. I’m the early bird for example and when we want boiled
eggs, I just throw them in and set it to start to times X, Y or Z and go off
to do other things and by the time my wife’s done shaking off the sandman
and come down for breakfast, the eggs are finishing their process and I didn’t
have to hang around the stove to monitor the water.

You look for it’s name, “InstantPot”, the one with bluetooth should say
“InstantPot Smart” or “InstantPot Bluetooth”.

It’s a pressure cooker which can also be used as a rice cooker, slow cooker and
other things. The “smart” version has bluetooth and all the controls can be set
and adjusted via an app on your iPhone.

Yes, the app is totally accessible and we use it a lot. You can even get
recipes and tips on how to use it. There are a lot of ideas on how to use them

It is 100% accessible. The app is at least. There are various models, but
the one if you’re blind that you want to get is the bluetooth model.

My wife’s getting to love it. More than anything, it takes the guess work
and fear out of working with a pressure cooker.

I’ve made pretty standard stuff with it. Soft boiled eggs, oatmeal, rice,
yogurt, etc. She’s the chef in the family, so she’s made more stuff with it.
Soups, quark and regular cheese cake, pork and beef roast, rice pudding. In
fact, she’s making a cherry cheese cake in the instant pot right now and
will be making a beef roast for Thanks Giving dinner a bit later.

  In short, it’s the bomb.

We’re thinking of getting my mother-in-law in Germany one for Christmas
this year too.

If only there were other smart appliances such as this that were made
fully accessible with an app.

I know there are more and more appliances with voice recognition like
washers/dryers, ranges and so on, but always having to speak out commands
can seem a bit tedious.

It is 100% accessible. The app is at least. There are various models, but the
one if you’re blind that you want to get is the bluetooth model.

My wife’s getting to love it. More than anything, it takes the guess work and
fear out of working with a pressure cooker.

I’ve made pretty standard stuff with it. Soft boiled eggs, oatmeal, rice,
yogurt, etc. She’s the chef in the family, so she’s made more stuff with it.
Soups, quark and regular cheese cake, pork and beef roast, rice pudding. In
fact, she’s making a cherry cheese cake in the instant pot right now and will
be making a beef roast for Thanks Giving dinner a bit later.

In short, it’s the bomb.

We’re thinking of getting my mother-in-law in Germany one for Christmas this
year too.

If only there were other smart appliances such as this that were made fully
accessible with an app.

I know there are more and more appliances with voice recognition like
washers/dryers, ranges and so on, but always having to speak out commands can
seem a bit tedious.

Hi,

I Came across this article about the InstantPot on CBC News today.

I know it has been discussed here and I seem to remember that the app was
considered to be very accessible. Is this still the case?

Best regards,

is this now, a cookery list? Cult-like worshippers' turn Canadian-invented Instant Pot into a phenomenon

Why not soft boiled eggs?

I mean, you could apply that same logic to anything else then. Rice, beans, and
so on. Indeed, soft boiled eggs are one of the more popular things to throw in
the instant pot.

Add about a cup of water, throw in the number of eggs you want. Be it four, six
eight. Up to how many fit. Lock the lid, seal the pressure valve. In the app,
set to manual, then three minutes under high heat. Star the process and walk
away. Just wait for it to beep. Release the steam. Fish out the eggs and dunk
in some water for thirty seconds and you have perfectly soft boiled eggs every
single time. You don’t have to worry about adjusting for this or that if you’ve
got medium or large or XL eggs. You can do six minutes if you want hard or two
if you want runny, etc.

That and another thing with the instant pot, you can set it to start at a
specific time. I’m the early bird for example and when we want boiled eggs, I
just throw them in and set it to start to times X, Y or Z and go off to do
other things and by the time my wife’s done shaking off the sandman and come
down for breakfast, the eggs are finishing their process and I didn’t have to
hang around the stove to monitor the water.

Ah yes, but if you have never done either hard or soft boiled eggs in the
instant pot you would never go back to the stove. When you do them in the
instant pot the shell just slides off of the egg and no membrane sticks to the
egg. It is wonderful.

Really, Cristóbal, soft boiled eggs? Just put your egg in a pot, put cold
water in it so it covers the egg and then bring it to a boil over high heat. As
soon as the water boils remove the pot from the stove completely or put it on
an unused area and set a 4 to 6 minute timer (depends on how runny you want the
yoke to be). Make sure to put under cold water as soon as the time is up and it
works every time.

I think the problem with that I grill thermometer is that it started out
as a small company. And I recall several years ago when they really did
understand about Accessibility. Obviously, based on the name, they have been
bought by Weber. A bigger company. Who doesn’t give a damn about
Accessibility.I certainly agree that at least in theory, if you buy
something with an app and it’s accessible, then it becomes inaccessible the
company should have to buy it back from you for what you paid for it if not

pretty sure that’s not going to happen in the age of rampant super rich free

Suffices to say, the app is great and I hope they don't make changes to
it. There is a 4 probe thermometer that was called the iGrill and now is
the Weber iGrill. When it first came out the app was totally usable to
where you could find different kinds of meats and set alarms to tell you
when you were getting close to the doneness that you required. Now, you can
barely use it and just forget about finding different kinds of meats and
setting any alarms. You can check temperatures but that is about all and
getting there is questionable.

Sent there are tons of recipes for this device. Also, since it is really just a
pressure cooker, you can use any pressure cooker recipe, which you might have
to modify slightly by increasing the time, because the pressure in the instant
pot is less a bit then the pressure or you would get on the stovetop. If the
Bluetooth were to become totally inaccessible, you can still use the instant
pot, because all the buttons are tactile. You would have to make some kind of
chart to refer to, and you would have to remember the default settings of the
various buttons, for time or temperature or whatever. That’s really why I
bought the Bluetooth. The cheaper models without the Bluetooth can be used by
blind person, but it requires either memorizing a lot of stuff or referring to
Riehl documentation that you write out for yourself. I wasn’t interested in
that.

2017-11-23 Thread Cristóbal
The manual/high/three minutes for soft boiled I just got off of some food
blog/site.

You can do four minutes for slightly harder eggs, but I’ve found that three
works for me.

Looking on the Amazon.de site, there only appear to be two instant pot models
for sale. The bluetooth one is not included. One thing though, it seems that
one of the versions they sell has a specific setting for eggs. Whereas the
bluetooth one we have does not. Who knows. Different markets I suppose.

In any event, soft boiled eggs is just one of the things you can do with it.
It’s not like you’re just buying it for that purpose.

Actually, there are many recipes in the book that comes along with it. there
is a facebook group, of which I have never been a part of and also where I have
found a lot of my info is on you tube. To do my eggs, I use the manual
setting. But that doesn't mean that using the steam setting is wrong, it is
just another idea. There is so much you can do with it. Now, to keep this on
track, with the app, it just makes it even better and easier to use. I love
all the things that are integrated in to the iPhone with so many great apps.

hi Sieghard,
Oh yes, in fact, I have a couple of other blind friends that have the same
thing and we nicely called them and they even went as far as turning on
voice over and saw the problems we were encountering. The next update that
came out was somewhat better, but now they have done more updates and the
situation is worse. I couldn't agree with you more and that just frustrates
the heck out of me. The only things that makes this usable was the app.
Not so much any more.

It really bugs me if companies which require you to buy hardware then mess
up the app, there should be ways to hold them accountable, I would probably
demand that they take back the product and refund me in full for the
purchase price.

I wonder what would happen if a company sold something with a display and
then decided to push an update to the device which would disable the display
and sighted users would have to start Voiceover in order to interact with
the device, people who spent money for such a device would go crazy.

Kay, have you contacted the maker of iGrill?

Suffices to say, the app is great and I hope they don't make changes to
it. There is a 4 probe thermometer that was called the iGrill and now is
the Weber iGrill. When it first came out the app was totally usable to
where you could find different kinds of meats and set alarms to tell you
when you were getting close to the doneness that you required. Now, you can
barely use it and just forget about finding different kinds of meats and
setting any alarms. You can check temperatures but that is about all and
getting there is questionable.

It is 100% accessible. The app is at least. There are various models,
but the one if you’re blind that you want to get is the bluetooth model.

My wife’s getting to love it. More than anything, it takes the guess
work and fear out of working with a pressure cooker.

I’ve made pretty standard stuff with it. Soft boiled eggs, oatmeal,
rice, yogurt, etc. She’s the chef in the family, so she’s made more stuff
with it. Soups, quark and regular cheese cake, pork and beef roast, rice
pudding. In fact, she’s making a cherry cheese cake in the instant pot
right now and will be making a beef roast for Thanks Giving dinner a bit
later.

  In short, it’s the bomb.

We’re thinking of getting my mother-in-law in Germany one for
Christmas this year too.

If only there were other smart appliances such as this that were made
fully accessible with an app.

I know there are more and more appliances with voice recognition like
washers/dryers

in it so it covers the egg and then bring it to a boil over high heat. As soon
as the water boils remove the pot from the stove completely or put it on an
unused area and set a 4 to 6 minute timer (depends on how runny you want the
yoke to be). Make sure to put under cold water as soon as the time is up and it
works every time.

Suffices to say, the app is great and I hope they don't make changes to it.
There is a 4 probe thermometer that was called the iGrill and now is the
Weber iGrill. When it first came out the app was totally usable to where
you could find different kinds of meats and set alarms to tell you when you
were getting close to the doneness that you required. Now, you can barely
use it and just forget about finding different kinds of meats and setting
any alarms. You can check temperatures but that is about all and getting
there is questionable.

RE: Cult-like worshippers' turn Canadian-invented Instant Pot into a phenomenon

2017-11-23 Thread Cristóbal

RE: Cult-like worshippers' turn Canadian-invented Instant Pot into a phenomenon

2017-11-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Really, Cristóbal, soft boiled eggs? Just put your egg in a pot, put cold water
in it so it covers the egg and then bring it to a boil over high heat. As soon
as the water boils remove the pot from the stove completely or put it on an
unused area and set a 4 to 6 minute timer (depends on how runny you want the
yoke to be). Make sure to put under cold water as soon as the time is up and it
works every time.

Hi,

I Came across this article about the InstantPot on CBC News
today.<http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/will-instant-pot-set-black-friday-record-1.4407355>
I know it has been discussed here and I seem to remember that the app was
considered to be very accessible. Is this still the case?

Best regards,

I have to join the band wagon here as well-this thing is great! As already
stated, get the bluetooth model-this is the one with the accessable app for the
blind.

As an aside, if you make corned beef in this, it turns out great, and in only
an hour and a half, versus all day on the stove top or crock pot.. I use mine
at least 4 or five times weekly, as it takes the place of several other
appliances.

Cult-like worshippers' turn Canadian-invented Instant Pot into a phenomenon

2017-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

today.
I know it has been discussed here and I seem to remember that the app was
considered to be very accessible. Is this still the case?

Best regards,
Siegharrd
