Re: Streaming music not on my Iphone.

2013-11-21 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi Cara,

In my experience this is definitely not the case. For example, Go to
settings/general/usage, and make sure you have no music on your device. If
there is, hit the edit button in the music section of usage, and delete all
music. Now, play 3 songs via iTunes match. Finally, go to
settings/general/about, and you will see that there are now 3 songs on your
device. I think it just streams while songs you play are being downloaded.

Re: Streaming music not on my Iphone.

2013-11-21 Thread Cara Quinn
HI Ricardo,

to be fair, Apple is not always super red hot about updating everything. :)

On the developer side of things, some of the guides can get quite out of date.
So it's not altogether impossible. :)

As for the streaming vs downloading issue, I tried this again and while I did
get the same results I said in my notes, I also found something interesting,
which is that at least on my end, the track seems to behave as if it is
downloaded and not downloaded at the same time! lol! Sort of a quantum thing!
lol!

What I mean is this; Once I play the track once, (or just a fraction of a
second of the track) and then turn on Airplane mode, I can then still play the
track so it does appear to be downloaded. However, as I'd mentioned before,
When I re-enable Airplane mode, I still have the download button next to the
track.

I also cannot delete this track from my device. So this also seems to act as if
it is not downloaded.

I'm thinking these tracks are getting cached in some way but not kept perhaps.

Any track I intentionally download by tapping the download button will download
to my device and then give me the option to delete it thereafter. If I do this,
the download button appears again and I no longer have the option to delete the
track from my device.

I will ad that I've also turned off iTunes Match and signed out of my account,
and then signed back in and re-enabled iTunes Match and this behavior still
persists.

So this is definitely interesting.

Thanks to you and David and others for your posts!

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi,

has changed like David and Cara says, that it hasn’t been reflected in Apples
documentation 2 months after IOS 7 has been released. But here’s the info.

Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?”

On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when

Re: Streaming music not on my Iphone.

2013-11-21 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Just to add to this, let me copy exactly what Apple says about streaming and
downloading in regards to iTunes match. I would also like to point out, Apple
is really good about updating their knowledge bases so, I’m surprised if this
has changed like David and Cara says, that it hasn’t been reflected in Apples
documentation 2 months after IOS 7 has been released. But here’s the info.

Does iTunes Match stream or download songs?”

On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when
played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud
download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they
download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you
don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs.”

The docs may say that but in practice that's not what seems to happen. :)

When you play a track from iCloud that track is still there and you still have

So it does stream to your device.

If you wish to download the track there is a button to the right of the track

Hope this helps and thanks for posting that!

Hi Doug,

Sorry but can you please clarify your question?

You need to subscribe to iTunes Match in order to use it.

Thanks,

Cara :)

Hi there,

iTunes Match is what you want.

You do not need to have an item downloaded to your phone in order to play
it.

NOt sure where that info came from but rest assured that iTunes Match is
meant specifically for this sort of thing.

Best of luck and have a great day / evening!

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi,

I thought ITunes Match might work but from what I read there is not an
option to play a song without loading it onto my IPhone. Is there another
app or service that will do this?

Thanks

Re: Streaming music not on my Iphone.

2013-11-19 Thread Rob

Hi,
A while back, Box.net was giving iPhone users 50gb of free space.
So that is what I'm using.
my music is synced with my PC, iPhone and Mac.
You can also sync your music with Dropbox I believe 100gb is about $10
per month.

Thanks,
Rob
