RE: The loving Spotlight

2015-10-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The two versions of Spotlight search on my 6S are indeed slightly different. If
I swipe left to right from the home screen I get the search field, a few of my
contacts I recently phoned or texted with as well as a couple of app
suggestions, one of them is my Radio Thermostat app which I typically use first
thing in the morning.
If I touch an app on the home screen and swipe down with 3 fingers I get the
search box and the SIRI app suggestions, but not the contacts.

Sieghard

Ok, I have a 4s running 7.*; I just put 3 fingers on a home screen and swiped
down, and spotlight came up, even remembered last
entry so I could modify, or clear text and start over.

Does the same on 5s running last 8.*.

Hi Connie,

If you do the gesture with 3 fingers and you get Voiceover to say something
like " app 1 of 1 center of screen" then your gesture is registering as a
3-finger single tap which announces the position of the app you are on, what it
actually announces is something like this (in my example I am doing a 3-finger
tap on the music appwhich happens to be on the third row of apps on my home
screen and in second position from the left):
Row 3, column 2, page 1 of 4, centre of screen, double tap to open
If you are running a version of iOS 9, you can bring up spotlight search by
either first touching any app on any home screen (excluding apps in the dock)
and then swiping down with 3 fingers. You can also get to Spotlight search from
your first home screen by swiping left to right with 3 fingers. Think of
Spotlight search as page 0 or as a page to the left of your first home screen.
If you are still on iOS 8 or earlier, you can only use the first method, i.e.
touch an app on any home screen and swipe down with 3 fingers.

Re: The loving Spotlight

2015-10-05 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
I just did this on a 4S running iOs 7.something, and you're right, amazing what
we turn up. Found my full name and postcode, which
was a bit more disturbing, privacy is clearly a moot point.

Thanks for the tip, I'll play osme more when it's charged up.

Hi all

Until iOS 9, I never took interest in the Spotlight feature on iOS. Now
it's even more powerful and smarter in most cases, I really think it's
lovely now to do a global search on iOS. Why not try it for yourself by
swiping with three fingers either down or to the right from the home
screen. Happy searching!

Re: The loving Spotlight

2015-10-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not sure about all devices, but it does work on my iPhone 4s, and as
I see in the thread below, it works on others as well. Make sure you're
following the instructions in the attached messages, namely make sure
you're on the home page and then do a three finger swipe down or a three
finger swipe right. It's not a swipe down and right, but either a swipe
down or alternatively a swipe right, and it's with three fingers.

Hello,
Is spot lite supposed to work on all iDevices? I tried swiping down rite and
nothing happened. Swiping down I heard app 1 of 1 center of screen and I was
swiping on the rite side of the screen. Swiping from left to rite says the
same thing. I used an iPod 5th generation and an iPhone 4 s to try this. Any
suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.
