Update on Verizon prepaid plan pricing and my apology to the list

2020-07-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Folks,

I have to apologize because I posted some incorrect Verizon prepaid plan
pricing info within the Shopping for mobile plans thread. I was being told
by Voiceover in the Verizon mobile app that the price of the 5GB prepaid
plan was $30 per month and used to be $40 per month. That same plan screen
told me the price of the 15GB prepaid plan was $40 per month and used to be
$50 per month. I did not realize that those quoted prices were reflecting
discounts I currently get on my plan, $5 for autopay and $5 for loyalty.
Verizon has never reflected discounts in the plan pricing I've been quoted
in the past and I made an assumption that the starting plan price had been
reduced by $10 per month and as the old adage says, made an ass of myself. I
apologize for any confusion caused.

I believe I have a keen understanding of the Verizon prepaid plans and their
available data and discounts so if anyone has specific questions, I'd love
an opportunity to make up for the misinformation. The nice thing about
Verizon prepaid plans is that you can change them once every billing cycle
without any problem.

Again, I apologize for any confusion caused.

Alan Lemly

RE: Apology

2020-06-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah I don’t’ get it,

Marilyn Asked a simple question which a number of sensible replys were given,

Marilyn Just remember that real people like yourself and others on this list
are always going to be happy to help when people need assistance,
Don’t let that reply put you off asking questions,

No question is ever a stupid one,
And as you will probably know, there will most likely be someone else on the
list wanting to ask the same thing
Feel free to ask any thing would be my suggestion,

For those people like the person who replied with the rude comments, they must
find life really hard being as perfect as they think they are!

They should prepare themselves to crash hard,
Good luck Marilyn And keep smiling!

I have a few points to make on this thread. First is that Marilyn has nothing
to apologize for, and I hope she doesn’t judge this whole list by a few rude
members. As anyone can tell, this list is full of members who want to help
other blind people. But it also can’t keep mean and self righteous people from
joining the list.

IMHO, the moderator doesn’t need to give this person a second chance before
kicking them off the list. Marilyn made an honest mistake, but anyone who would
tell someone else on the list that they don’t have a brain, is just not someone
who should be given another chance or be allowed on this list.

Finally, I’m on plenty of lists which have nothing to do with blindness and I
don’t find blindness related lists to have a greater number of rude people on
it then your average list. I wish it were the case that blind people would
kinder and more gracious then the general public, but unfortunately this isn’t
the case. I also don’t think that the opposite is true, and that is that the
blindness community is more mean spirited or has more rude people in it then
the general community. I find this to be just another unsubstantiated prejudice
against blind people.

RE: Apology

2020-06-07 Thread chaltain

I find this to be just another unsubstantiated prejudice
against blind people.

having no brain is quite oxymoronic because someone with half a brain would be
bright enough to be kind to people.

Why Apple's "Batterygate" apology didn't go far enough

2017-12-29 Thread M. Taylor
Why Apple's apology didn't go far enough
By Jefferson Graham | USA TODAY Updated 4 minutes ago
In the grand tradition of past Apple fiascos like Antennagate (dropped calls
on the then-new iPhone 4) and the launch of Apple Maps (directions that
weren't accurate), the tech giant apologized again to consumers this week.
The question is whether the iconic iPhone maker's apology went far enough.
We didn't think that it did.
First, Apple was forced to admit that it intentionally slowed down the
performance of older phones in order to keep up with declining battery life.
It acted after a 17-year-old user performed a test that proved it.
Critics howled, the Twitterverse pounced and several consumer lawsuits were
churned out by hungry lawyers. One asked for a $5 million in compensation on
behalf of all the consumers who felt forced to upgrade their otherwise
healthy older phones after they were slowed down by Apple's software update.
They were not given the choice to opt-in for the battery-saving slowdown
feature.
Analysts had suggested Apple pen an open letter to consumers. While the
world awaited a beefier response from Apple than its initial admission, we
tried to do some of the work for them. We wrote the letter that we hoped
Apple would write, and posted it. A few hours later on Thursday, Apple came
clean and released it's own take.
One major difference between our proposed apology and Apple's: We suggested
Apple say they were sorry and offer free battery upgrades for any consumer
who wanted one. Apple saw it differently. It offered an apology but not a
free battery. Instead, it is offering a new battery at a discount: $29.99,
$50 less than usual cost. The deal is available starting in late January and
running through the end of 2018 and only on iPhone 6 and 6S.
Remember, this is the world's most profitable company, a firm that paid CEO
Tim Cook $102 million in salary and bonuses in 2017. Apple generated $10
billion in profit for just the most recent quarter.
Yet it refuses to give away free batteries to inconvenienced Apple customers
who have been suffering from slow downs of their phones that they bought
from Apple in good faith.
Analyst Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights says Apple's replacement battery
costs less than $10. He estimates that only around 100,000 consumers will
take up Apple on its offer. Even if the battery replacement was free, he
says some 250,000 people would participate, the result of which would be
"barely a blip to Apple's earnings."
A free battery would go a long way towards erasing widespread suspicion that
Apple purposely tries to make its older products obsolete in order to coax
consumers into buying new ones.
Apple denied this in the open letter.
"We have never - and would never - do anything to intentionally shorten the
life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer
upgrades," the company said.
But rivals Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC all say they don't slow down their
phones to factor in older batteries.
"Apple's offer of discounted batteries fails to compensate consumers who
were forced to purchase new iPhones," said James Vlahakis, a Chicago-area
lawyer who filed the $5 million class-action lawsuit. The $50 discount on
the price of a new battery "is an insult to loyal customers who have
consistently and with much fanfare have flocked to Apple stores worldwide to
purchase every version of the iPhone."
Still, Moorhead believes this latest fiasco will blow over for Apple and
fans will continue to wait on line breathlessly when next generation of
iPhones are announced and come to stores, typically in September. I tend to
agree, but it will be harder to take Apple's statements at face value again.

In other tech news this week
.Amazon Echo Dot. Amazon said this week that it's Echo Dot speaker was the
best-selling product among the thousands of items it offered on its website
during the holidays. The Dot is the cheapest way to get the Alexa
personalized assistant into the home. It's normally $49, but was discounted
to $29 beginning in November.
.HQ Trivia. The game app is set to launch on Android Monday. Who wants to
win some quick cash? The ultra-popular mobile game show, open to anyone who
wants to try answering 12 questions for prizes of around $1,500, had said it
would move beyond the Apple IOS base to launch on Android phones as well.
Search for HQ Trivia on the Google Play Store to pre-register and get a
notification when the app is live.
.Tweet archiving. The Library of Congress won't archive everyone's tweets.
All tweet activity has been archived since 2010, but beginning next week,
the Library of Congress says it will "continue to acquire tweets but will do
so on a very selective basis." The library says tweets collected and
archived will be thematic and event-based, including events such as
elections or themes of ongoing national interest, like those involving
public policy issues.

Re: Apology for the other message, some crafting Kingdom questions

2017-05-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
Thanks also Chris for that great reply. I started this game about 10
days ago and am slowly completing quests. I have expanded a couple of
times, but the current expansion requires 400 stone and 400 leather
strips. That will take me a little while to achieve, so I'm completing
other quests in the meantime. I totally love the game though and
really love that there is a story oriented game that is accessible
now.

Re: Apology for the other message, some crafting Kingdom questions

2017-05-21 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Wren,

I will do my best to answer your questions, but first let me tell you a little
about the goal of the game.
The goal of Crafting Kingdom is to expand your estate to its maximum size while
using quest rewards and boost to help achieve this quicker. To expand your
estate each time, you will need 3 things, a particular number of 2 products,
like 400 timber and 400 grain, and a particular amount of gold. These required
amounts will increase each time you expand your estate.
It is not required to purchase all of the properties and unlock all of its
products in order to expand your estate or get the rewards from the quest you
have completed. Most people look at their current quest and what they need on
their current estate expansion, and just work on completing those task. For
example, for my next estate expansion, I need 1200 Armor, 1200 Silver Bar, and
1 Million in gold. Since I know it will take a while to save 1 million in
gold, I am currently working on my quest to help me save the 1 million in gold
quicker. Once you complete quest and claim the rewards, those quest will be
replaced with new ones.
Keep im mind to retrieve your quest rewards, you have to reset the game. When
resetting the game, you do not lose everything. You mainly lose 3 things, all
properties purchased, all products unlocked, and any gold yu currently have on
hand. The purpose of the quest and there rewards is to help you achieve things
quicker. For example, a reward can decrease the price of unlocking products,
increase the gold you get when selling a product, increase the speed a product
is produced, and increase your boost or automation time.
Boost can be extremely helpful and also help you achieve something in the game
quicker. To answer one of your questions, yes, you can use multiple boost at
the same time no matter what they are. So you can use the salesman boost up to
4 times at the same time getting a total of a 40% increase for what you sell
all products for.
In regards to your estate, it does not have to be unlocked, and neither does
the princess. For each day you go into the princess and accept the gift, it
will increase your sell pricess by 2%. This will continue until it reaches
100%.
Your estate will just give you information about your estate and what is needed
to do your next expansion.

As far as fishing rods, the metal parts needed actually come from the
BlackSmith property. So to make fishing rods, you will have to own 5
properties, the Lumberyard, The farm, The Cory, the Furnace, and the Blacksmith.
It takes 3 properties to make metal parts. To make metal parts here are the
steps:
You will need 1 Coal and 1 Iron Ore from the Cory to make 1 metal from the
furnace.
Then it will take 1 metal from the furnace to make 1 metal part from the
Blacksmith.
So as you can tell, it will take some money and time in order to produce
fishing rods. So unless it is for a quest or to expand your estate, I would
not worry about fishing rods at this point. Just concentrate on your quest and
your estate expansion. Remember, that is the goal of the game.

I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have about the game.
Good luck!

Chris

Thanks for this, I wasn't aware that there was no feedback for that amount of

It went dead and I pressed the on/off button a few times.
It did eventually come back and the update showed up in the details, I hope

Hi Eden,

Maybe you already received an answer, but after a phone reboots during the
update it goes dead for at least 15 minutes. It is actually not dead, but doing
the update and sighted people will see the Apple logo on the screen. It's
important to leave it alone because if you try to push all sorts of buttons or
even worse, do a reset by holding the power and home buttons you will most
likely interrupt the update and this will mess up your phone really good. That
is one reason why I often prefer to do updates via iTunes, you get a lot more
feedback as to what is going on.

First, Raul, apologies for the thank you messages, won't happen again, but now
I have a bigger problem. I started updating with no problem, but my phone said
it was going to reboot, waited for 4 minutes, nothing, try turning on phone,
nothing. A little concerned here.

I find using iTunes to be far less risky and far more reliable. Plus, it
saves space on your phone during the updating.

Hi Eden,

Maybe you already received an answer, but after a phone reboots during the
update it goes dead for at least 15 minutes. It is actually not dead, but
doing the update and sighted people will see the Apple logo on the screen.
It's important to leave it alone because if you try to push all sorts of
buttons or even worse, do a reset by holding the power and home buttons you
will most likely interrupt the update and this will mess up your phone
really good. That is one reason why I often prefer to do updates via iTunes,
you get a lot more feedback as to what is going on.

Sieghard

Re: Apology and another question concerning the chime clocks

2014-10-08 Thread Alan Paganelli
The purpose of a Westminster clock is to let you know the time by the
pattern of the chiming at the quarter, half, three quarters and top of the
hour with a full chime count meaning if it's 1 o'clock you hear the full
Westminster melody plus a chime strike of 1.

Apology for thread highjacking

2014-08-30 Thread Richard Turner
I fell into the trap of replying to a message that had nothing to do with
the thread instead of starting a new thread.

I am sorry for doing that.

It was the KNFB Reader thread and the topic of iOS 8 and 4S phones.

Now that thread is wandering a bit further off the original track.

Hello, everyone.

I am seeking recommendations for a notetaker that meets as many of
these criteria as possible:

* reliable cursor tracking allowing the user to return to the place at
which she/he left off

* sophisticated text find and find and replace command set

* accessible with external keyboard using robust command set

* at least some formatting ability, such as setting line length,
centering a title

* ability to send a file to Dropbox

* significant program development since its initial release.

Ideally, the software should be able to save documents in rtf or
doc format, but this is not a requirement.

Based on my online reading, the leading candidate appears to be AFB's
AccessNote, but I'm wondering how far the software has come since its
initial release.

All comments are welcome.

Thank you.

best word I could, which, of course, also might denote a stand-alone
device that might not have anything to do with an iOS product. I am
posting this note to you publicly rather than privately because I
wanted to share my amusement over the fact that two people, trying to
be conscientiously accurate, can sometimes falter. I think all we owe
each other is a very small virtual cup of coffee. smile

No worries of course, but I would just ask that people please respond to

 Thank you.

Hi, this happened because the email you were looking at was sent by the list
on behalf of the sender. This is so any replies go to the list and not just
them. To actually send a message just to them, you have to select their
address in the message header and compose a message to that address. In iOS
To send a message just to you for instance, I'd scroll up to the top of the
message and double tap your name, which would bring up a link to your email
address, which lets me add it to a contact or just select it to open the new
message window. I hope that helps.

RE: apology

Hi Marianne,

No worries. I think most of us are anxious for the app to come out.

I know I am.

I apologize for saying there was an interview on Blind Bargains about the
NLS app. I listened to several interviews by different people and made a
mistake. I am very anxious for the NLS app to come out.

My apology to the list about moderated messages

2012-10-25 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hey all. If you have been writing to the list and your messages have
been moderated it means they haven't shown up on the list. New members
are automatically moderated until I can determine if they are spammers
or real people. Also, some members might be moderated for other reasons
and those are usually temporary. When I see a moderated message come
through I have the option to go into the Google Groups site and allow or
ignore the message. For some reason doing this on an individual message
basis has been generating an error and so the messages have remained
moderated and never went out to the list. I just discovered that if I
look at the entire queue of messages and choose them from that list then
they go through. This didn't used to work that way and so I can only
assume it's an error of some kind with the list or with Google Groups.
So, the bottom line, I apologize to those members who have posted
messages and they never made it to the list. Things are caught up now
and so if you see messages from a week or so ago, that's why. There is
no need to reply to this message on list, but if you want to add
something, write me directly.

Cheers.

Re: Tim Cook's apology!

2012-09-28 Thread James Mannion
If something is going to be all messed up, maps is a relatively ok
thing for it to be in my opinion because there are so many
alternatives to use for navigation apps. The other thing I noticed is
this was just another instance in the comments where android fans are
just trolling the net for any issues or even exagerated or roomers of
issues to make their apple and IPhone bashing comments. Why do Android
fans have to put so much of their lives in to bashing Apple? Can't
they just be happy that they made whatever choice they did? I saw
another article last night talking about the new A6 processor. The
comments were filled with Android fans just bashing Apple with
everything they could. Even one comments said too bad they don't have
an OS to take advantage of it. Huh? Seems to me IOS takes advantage of
the CPU and GPU chip set fine and I could not tell you how it does
not. I do not think they could either. Meanwhile their beloved has a
long standing reputation for all kinds of lag.

Android users aren't the only ones bashing other products. there's
plenty of that done by iPhone users as well. It must be human nature or
something, but you see it all the time from all sides.

Re: Tim Cook's apology!

2012-09-28 Thread Teresa Cochran
It's very easy to bash something you don't have experience with, because you
don't know it. I think it really is a human-nature sort of thing. I've had to
stop myself going on about something because I'd heard a rumor about a bad
aspect of that particular thing. Of course, in private conversation, I go on
about such things just to vent. But trolling is something I've never understood
doing.

I think Apple have done a great job. There are pluses and minuses, but I've
pretty much chosen all of them, and I'm comfortable in that choice.
