RE: Creating ringtones on iPhone with Ringtone Maker and Garage Band apps

2024-01-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Richard, did you get Waltr2 or Waltr Pro? They still list Waltr2 which is what
I used for a bit years ago, I think Waltr Pro maybe a bit more recent and it's
definitely an improvement. I don't transfer music to my iPhone or books or
other stuff, but I guess it would be just as easy as ringtones since the
program basically decides by whatever the file type is where on the iPhone it
needs to go.
I sent my support email this morning, but no reply yet so far.

I have never found their support very helpful and the program has never
improved on accessibility. It takes a lot of tedium to get used to it...

I just downloaded Waltr Pro and tried it with 2 ringtones which can be done
with the trial license and since you can now download the required drivers as
part of the Waltr Pro download it is certainly a lot better than many years ago
when iTunes had to be installed.
However, I purchased a 1-months universal license which is of course a money
grab since there is no individiual license for Waltr Pro and you have to get
the universal license which is also good for all their other product. So far I
have not been able to activate Waltr Pro however, I clicked on the link to
activate it in the email I received and it seemed like it went around in
circles asking me to enter my email so I would get some "magic link" by email
to sign in, eventually I saw a little one-line message near the bottom of the
page which said activation could not be completed and to contact support. I
have done that now and we'll see what happens. There is a place in Waltr Pro
where it says "I have a license key" and I wonder why they don't just send me
the license key to paste in there and that would be the end of it. As I said,
it seems simple enough and hopefully support can enlighten me as to how I can
activate this, then I'll transfer all my ringtones and alert tones and that
will be it. It's definitely not worthwhile for me to maintain an annual
subscription year after year for something I may use once a year for one or two
tones. I do have a few dozen custom ringtones and text/alert tones so once I
have them back on my iPhone I won't need the application any more and if in a
year or two I want to add some more tones I can always buy another 1-months
subscription. Also, hopefully Apple will add the ability to transfer ringtones
to the Apple Devices app for Windows, you can do just about anything else what
one could do in iTunes except transfer ringtones.

No you do not, all you need is a license to WALTRPro, your phone, and the files
you want to import. It does more than just ring tones. You can import music
directly into Apple Music, kindle books, iBooks, even keynote presentations.
Ring tones are just what it is most popular for.

2024-01-29 Thread Kelly Pierce
Waltr Pro requires the use of Apple drivers to access Apple devices,
such as iPhones and iPads. These drivers would be installed if the
end user were to download and install iTunes. However, these drivers
can also be installed in the setup of Waltr Pro if itunes is not on a
Windows computer. Here’s a question and answer from the developer’s
website:

“I'm a Windows user. Do I need to install iTunes in order to use WALTR PRO?

No. You don’t need to have iTunes installed on your PC. You may choose
one of these ways to make WALTR PRO work properly on Windows PCs:
•   Install the latest Apple iTunes version on your PC;
• Download Apple drivers during the WALTR PRO installation process.
Any Windows app that has to access your iPhone (notwithstanding the
model) needs to use Apple Mobile Support drivers. They are usually
installed on your computer together with iTunes. Naturally, WALTR PRO
for Windows has to use these iTunes drivers as well.”

Yes you do and they state that it does not work with the version of iTunes

2015 it does have its drawbacks. Fortunately data is not too
expensive here in the UK so whether streaming via WiFi or mobile
 data it’s not too bad.
However, unless you regularly explore new music you run the risk of
paying for albums over and over again. Then there is the issue when

To transfer music and ringtones to my iPhone, I use a program called
Waltr Pro, which has an annual subscription fee of $35. Nicely
accessible, more so than iTunes, and none of the headaches and
hassles. For making ringtones, I slice an MP3 file down with MP3
Direct Cut, which also has fade in and fade out functionality. I then
use an online file converter to turn it into an M4R file. I like
heavy metal music and have turned a number of classic heavy metal
songs into ringtones. When my phone rings, a heavy guitar rift plays
from Metallica, Judas Priest, the Scorpions, guns and Roses, and many
others. I am told my ring tones turn heads. They are great
conversation starters.

In highly professional environments, I have the Grateful Dead, Miles
Davis, count Basie bill Evans, and Maynard Ferguson.

I have found that custom ringtones are backed up to iCloud so when my
phone is restored, the ringtones come back before I need to transfer
them from my PC.

Re: Creating ringtones on iPhone with Ringtone Maker and Garage Band apps

2024-01-26 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
While I find Apple Music to be a wonderful service I’ve been a user since 2015
it does have its drawbacks. Fortunately data is not too expensive here in the
UK so whether streaming via WiFi or mobile data it’s not too bad. However,
unless you regularly explore new music you run the risk of paying for albums
over and over again. Then there is the issue when or if you discontinue your
subscription you lose access to all your music whereas buying physical media or
downloaded content you will still have access to your library.

I suspect Sieghard is right on here.
However, the timing is rather vague. I found tons of articles from January of
2023 talking about this, but no articles in a year.

I don't want to risk messing up what is working currently by downloading any of
the previews, but I won't be surprised if the switch happens with very little
notice or fanfair.

So, be ready with good backups...

that the Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices apps are on the Microsoft

There are plenty of articles which confirm that it is likely Apple will replace
iTunes with these apps, maybe this year, maybe next, but once Apple released
these separate apps for the Mac, iTunes for the Mac went away pretty quick. Of
course at this point you can't do Books or Podcasts with any of these 3 apps so
most likely such apps will be coming for Windows first before iTunes goes away.
There is of course also the fact that you and others who transfer huge amounts
of media whether MP3, M4A or Daisy format are a very small minority considering
how easy it is to access this stuff via the web and as I read in one article,
Apple used to make a huge amount of money from the sale of downloadable music
on iTunes, but now service revenue which means streaming revenue and revenue
from services such as iCloud, News etc. is hugely bigger than what people still
spend on actually buying music. I am very much part of that demographic, I used
to spend hours in music stores back in Germany in the mid and late 80's
listening to vinyl and later CD's and buying them, still very much so here in
Canada throughout the 90's, but already starting in the early 2000's I started
downloading music and of course now I have my Apple Music subscription which
gives me access to just about any music ever made unless it is of course some
small, locally produced artist. For more or less half of what a CD cost 30
years ago I can pay my monthly Apple Music subscription and listen to anything
I want wherever I am.

In any case, the point o fthis post was more about how with this free app it is
very easy to make ringtones from songs and add them to your ringtones library
right on the iPhone without ever touching any other device and I find this
quite cool and it is certainly something I will do from now on. Many years ago

Hello,

I haven’t used iTunes for a long time and on my laptop I have been playing
around a little with the new Windows app which eventually will replace iTunes,
Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices. Basically the functionality of iTunes
which allows you to manage and listen to the various media types as well as
provide a device section where you could update/restore your iPhone or add
ringtones to be synced to your connected iPhone is now divided up among these
apps similar to how it is on a Mac.
Unfortunately at this stage the Apple Devices app which is accessible for
things like updating/restoring your phone, making encrypted backups, turn
Voiceover on/off etc. does not include an option to sync ringtones to your
device. Maybe it does not yet include this feature as the app is still in Beta
testing phase, but either way since I did a complete reset of my iPhonelast
night I was looking for a way to at least get some of my favourite songs back
as ringtones.
After listening to a YouTube video, I downloaded the app the guy was using and
found that it is a pretty simple app and it is accessible. I am including a
link later. Basically when I opened the app I was able to import a song from my
computer into the app which is achieved by entering an IP address into a
browser, this takes you to a simple website where you can browse to your song
and import it. This worked well and the song was then in the app.
Here I was able to clip the song so it’s only 30 seconds long and setting start
time and end time as well as enabling a fade in and fade out effect was easy to
do. Then I tapped the “Make” button which created the ringtone with the correct
M4R extension.
After that I I found a “Share” option under “More” and I was able to select
Garage Band which I also installed on my iPhone before, for those who don’t
know it, this app is a free app from Apple which allows you to create and work
with all sorts of audio. After I shared it, I opened Garage Band, tapped on “My
songs” and my ringtone was there.
Flicking down on the song gave me a bunch of options and again one of them was
“Share”. After tapping it, I had several options including “Ringtone”.
When I tapped it I was told the length of the song had to be adjusted, It said
“Your ringtone needs to be 30 seconds or less and will be automatically
shortened to the appropriate length”.
I tapped continue and then had only two options, “Cancel” and “Export”. I
tapped on export and then when I went to Settings > Sounds and Haptics >
Ringtones it was right there and I was able to select it.

This method is not as easy and quick as copying a bunch of already existing
ringtones and simply pasting them into the appropriate section in iTunes, but
it is not very difficult and one can certainly make some ringtones based on
songs this way.
There is also an option where you can select a video from yoru photo library on
the iPhone if you have one which includes audio. The audio is then extracted
and you can make a ringtone from this.
Lastly, you do of course have options in Garage Band to create your own music
or record yourself if you are a musician, but that is one thing I am not.

I will once again leave feedback for Apple in the next little while asking them
to hopefully add the ability to sync ringtones via the Apple Devices app or
even better would be if they allows for some other way to simply import them
from a place like Dropbox or other cloud storage service. You can do just about
anything nowadays from the iPhone and I am sure iTunes will probably be a thing
of the past sooner rather than later and this is one area where Apple should
give customers an option to do this just using a phone.

When I tapped it I was told the length of the song had to be adjusted, It said

I tapped continue and then had only two options, "Cancel" and "Export". I
