It used to be more straightforward, but now in Uber you double tap on the bottom of the screen where it says to meet your driver at the pick up point for your address. That opens up an area where among other things you will see call your driver or message driver. I message them all the time this way. I’ve thought of changing my profile photo to one of me holding my cane. This should work, with some drivers anyway. The exceptions would be those who mistook the cane for a pool cue. I use lyft, not Uber, but they do have a text box where you can leave a note for the driver. I usually say something like, "Blue jacket, white cane". In most cases the driver does read the note and I have found them to be very responsive. I have not found a way to include a note to the driver in the Uber app. Someone else may know how to do it. If Lyft is available in your area, consider downloading the Lyft app and setting up an account. When you are requesting a ride with Lyft, you reach a screen where you confirm or enter your pickup address. There is also a field on that screen where you can include a note for the driver. When you double-tap the button, you see some pre-defined entries for the beginning of the note such as In front of, Gate code, and others. But there is also a choice for you to enter your own note. I think you have 60 characters. After you finish writing or dictating the note, you double-tap the “Add note for driver” button to save the note and include it in the ride request. The next time you request a ride with Lyft, the note you wrote before is now one of the choices in the list of notes. So you don’t have to write the same note every time. Hi Jenny, When scheduling a ride, you can type in a note. You can also contact the driver by phone. Even if you can do this through your account settings, I’m not certain the driver will see it. I generally call the driver when he/she gets close. You should be receiving updates as to When your driver will arrive. Hope this helps. Hi Jenny, once you have called for a ride, double tap on the drivers information and it will give you the option to call or text the driver.
