The short answer is that you probably have your password encryption, on the
phone, set incorrectly.
Unlike in the old days, it is not enough to enter the correct username

FYI, whether you're using POP3 or IMAP for your incoming email, you're
still using SMTP for your outgoing email. Switching to IMAP doesn't

Is this set up as a POP3 email account? If so then the problem is most
likely your outgoing mail server. When I was using POP3 many years ago I
remember I often had that problem with my
