RE: Issue with the latest GoodReads app and item counts

2018-02-26 Thread M. Taylor
Hello,

This app is basically a way for one to keep track of one's book collection and
to discover new books. Generally speaking, Good Reads is not a book buying
service.

Mark,
Thanks for all your help on this annoying issue. I followed the procedure you
described in going to the My Books tab of the app. I am however happy to say
that the issue appears to be back to normal. I went to the GoodReads app
several times yesterday and the item counts were successfully showing the right
updated numbers. I finished a couple of books yesterday and the new counts were
showing what they should have been showing. So, my annoying issue with the item
counts appears to be resolved. Perhaps it was something on the GoodReads end,
or it just took longer than normal for things to update. Whatever the case, all
is good now. Good to know that GoodReads is responsive to accessibility issues
if I need to contact them in the future.

RE: Issue with the latest GoodReads app and item counts

2018-02-24 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Wayne,

I completely understand your sentiment.

I have tried to reproduce your experience on my 8 Plus, 6 S Plus, and 6. On
each device, each running iOS 11.2.6, my book count is correct, on each shelf.

Just so we're on the same page, let's make certain we're talking about the same
procedure:

After closing the Good Reads app from the app switcher, then rebooting the
phone:

1.
Open the Good Reads iOS app. The app opens with focused placed on the Home tab
and VoiceOver announces the number of updates, or something similar.

2.
Single-finger, double-tap the "My Books" tab, located just to the right of the
Home tab. Doing this causes the screen to refresh with a display containing a
row of books that you are currently reading, followed by icons in a kind of
list with appropriate shelf names and the number of books on each shelf.
Single-finger swiping from left to right, assuming you have placed focus near
the top of the display causes VoiceOver to announce each shelf followed by its
book count.

Wayne, is this basically your scenario?

I must tell you that, in recent weeks, it can take the Good Reads app a few
seconds to update the shelf count, correctly.

Also, try switching tabs a couple of times and see if this makes any
difference.

Also, it may be useful if you can confirm that your display is set to normal;
for example, not using enlarged fonts.

It may be useful to contact Good Reads as they are very responsive to
accessibility issues. However, keep in mind that if I cannot reproduce your
bug on three different phones, then chances are, they will not be able to
reproduce them, either. Still, it's definitely worth a try.

As for hard resetting your phone, I'm not certain what you mean. If you mean
simply forcing a device shutdown, go ahead and give it a try.

Sieghard and others have found that resetting network settings can make a
difference in some instances, also.

You know, I would be interested in seeing what would happen were you to login
to your account on another iPhone. While I don't think your experience is the
result of any problems with your actual account, it would be interesting to
know if you were able to get an accurate book count on a different device.

Finally, Wayne, can you have a sighted person look at your phone and see if the
number being displayed is different than what VoiceOver is reporting?

Mark

Mark, I did as you suggested. I deleted the app and reinstalled it from the App
Store. After I signed into GoodReads, I went to the My Books tab and the item
counts said 1 book on my want to read and read shelves. I figured out that I
can go into the individual screens for each shelf, refresh the view with a 3
finger swipe down, and the total would be updated to show the current counts.
However, when I go back into the app the counts go back to one book each. I
guess my next step would be contacting GoodReads. I have also considered
leaving an app store review, or contacting them through Facebook. And, have
wondered if doing a hard reset to my phone would change anything. It's not a
huge deal, but I do like looking at the current totals on my various shelves.

Hello Wayne,

I cannot reproduce your issue.

After updating to iOS 11.2.6, I opened the Good Reads app, after reading your
post, and all is as it should be. All of my bookshelves have the correct
numbers associated with them.

Perhaps you should first uninstall and then reinstall the app.

Let us know how it goes.

Greetings. I'm having an issue with the GoodReads app on my iPhone 7 Plus with
iOS 11.2.6. My total books read was around 1200 and I had about 27 books on the
want to read shelf. I wrote a review for a book I had finished earlier tonight,
and the next time I looked, my counts were reset to zero. I restarted the app
several times and even updated to the recent iOS release, and restarted again
like I always do. Even so, when I opened GoodReads, my counts were still at
zero or 1. The strange thing is I can access all the books I have finished that
were in the original 1200 total, but the numbers are showing wrong on the My
Books tab of the app. Any ideas or thoughts? Figured I would reach out to the
list before contacting GoodReads.

Thanks,

Wayne Merritt
