You have to go into your settings and turn on the viewing. All you do it then tap whether you want to have it speak, or have a beep or vibrate. Hold the camera over the money it will let you know what you have. You have to light to use this app too. Correct, it reads nothing; it just is waiting for you to scan a bill. As others have said, the only way to get voiceover to read anything is to change the app's settings in the settings menu on the phone itself. The app will not speak at all until it recognizes a piece of currency; you must have good lighting, and I believe at least half of the bill must be recognized before it reads the denomination or makes the appropriate number of beeps. My wife and I finally got it to work; it does take practice. Having now seen more than probably 20 messages on this app I thought it was time to have a look for myself. So, I went to the app store and downloaded eyenote, proper spelling. As has been mentioned before, when you load the app, a blank screen is encountered. So, before opening the app, go in to settings and find the app there. Open the settings for that app and you will find a button which is labeled show settings off. Tap on this button to turn show settings on. On the screne, below show settings on is another button which says privacy spoken button. If you tap on this button you will be presented with three choices, and they are spoken, tone and vibrate. If you choose one, other than spoken, such as tone or vibrate, then it will be selected. At the point where you have made your selection, use the back button to move out of that section of the app. You will actually need to go back, twice to actually get out of the app. So, then go to the page where the app has been placed and open the app. When you then open the app, you will be presented with a screen which has three choices at the bottom, speak, tone and vibrate. The item which you have selected will announce that it has been selected which means you can change your selection if you want too. Now, remove a bill from your wallett or pocket and place it on a flat surface or in your hand, unfolded. Pick up your phone and hold it approximately 1 foot, twelve inches above the bill, attempting to keep it in the same plain as the bill, that is to say, level. At that point you should hear the phone announce the denomination of the bill and whether or not you are seeing the front or the back. And, please remember, this app was developed through the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in the United States so probably will not work with foreign currency. Hope this has been helpful. Just start the app and then point it at a piece of paper US currency. Hold the phone about six inches from the bill. There will need to be enough light. It scans continuously, so you don't need to tap anything, it'll just announce the denomination of the bill and whether it's scanning the front or back of the bill. there won't be anything on the screen until you scan a bill or you go into Settings and toggle the option to have the settings buttons in the app, as I describe below. I find that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. My partially sighted husband and I worked with it, and it did a couple, but one it wouldn't. I still prefer LookTel Money Reader. I don't see the original question below, but you can get to the settings for eyenote by going into the iPhone's Settings and finding the eyenote app in the list near the bottom. You can toggle having the settings buttons in the eyenote app itself and you can configure how eyenote identifies the bills, e.g. spoken, beeps or vibrations. I then noticed that no matter how dark my space the light on the phone did not come on. with look tell Money reader the flash comes on when needed so the bill is identified no matter what the light conditions. Once I moved to a bright area the app began to work similar to looktel. I thought it was interesting that it identified the front or back of the bill but then I realized that I could not imagine when I would actually need to know this. It is obvious to me that there was not enough light in the room for the eyenote to detect the money value. I just tried it again and now things are much better with this app. It seems that the money reader works with less light—sometimes we can’t tell if enough light is present or enough light is available. Whether you're looking at the front or back of the bill is important when slipping a bill into a vending machine. Some vending machines are still particular when it comes to how the bill is oriented. I just placed a bill on the corner of my desk, held the phone about six inches above it, and it just worked. I did move the phone around a tiny bit, but it didn't take long at all to let me know I was looking at the front of a one dollar bill. Did it have instructions at the beginning; I opened it and it said Doubletap to open and no matter what I did, nothing. It could be not enough light, will try again. Hi, I saw the update and got it this morning. When I first launched it, nothing appeared on-screen and there was no verbal indication that anything was happening. So, out of curiosity, I pointed the camera at a bill and iNote responded. Seems to me it behaves similarly to Looktel Money Reader, with the exception that it tells you whether you're looking at the front or back of a bill. .
