Re: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker
Hi I’d quite like it as a toggle. There are times when I don’t want notifications coming over my speaker, but it’s essential if I want to use said speaker to read a book using the speech on my phone. RE: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker
I also find it interesting how something which has been the status quo at least ever since I bought my first iPod Touch Third Gen in 2009 now suddenly should no longer be so. Bluetooth always has routed all audio including Voiceover and system sounds to any Bluetooth device and it's only in iOS 13 and with some speakers where this is no longer happening. In the case of the person who has several Bose products and where Voiceover and system sounds no longer comes to the speaker this is a disaster and she wished it were back to what it was before. To a few others it's a welcome change even though it's by far not a new feature since it seems on most Bluetooth speakers it is still as it always has been, i.e. Voiceover, system sounds and any audio stream which is playing come through the speaker. If Apple could make it an easy feature which one could turn on or off then fine, I have no problem with that, but as it is it seems to be a bug which affects some devices. As for sighted people not wanting to hear Voiceover blasting out over the speaker, if a Voiceover user is using their device and is with several others who may not like this he or she can always mute Voiceover or turn it off altogether once whatever audio is playing. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Sunday, December 29, 2019 1:09 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com; alia robinson Subject: Re: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker IMHO, all audio, including voiceOver should go through a bluetooth speaker or head phones by default. Re: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker
Well, since I started this present discussion, I'll summarize what I've learned. First, let me clarify one point. The Bose speaker was a gift, and I'm aware of, and I have other speakers that allow VO to play through them. Second, I am hearing that I cannot listen to anything but media in the Bose speaker even when using the Bose Connect APP. Finally, I still believe there should be a toggle option so that when you are playing media, you can turn off VO from the speaker as it stands now. Thanks for all the input on this subject. Re: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker
I think it should be a toggle. Generally, I think this is a great change. I do not ever want to hear voiceover through a Bluetooth speaker. But I understand there are use cases for it. So I think the best solution would be a toggle. I don’t see that this is at all the same as plugging in a headset. Often, people use Bluetooth speakers somore than one person can listen. There is a training scenario where voiceover would be useful in such cases, but there is also an equally valid scenario where absolutely no one wants to hear voiceover over the speaker interrupting the entertainment. it seems ridiculous to expect someone to purchase an airplay speaker, if they have a nice Bluetooth speaker which meets the entertainment need. Re: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker
Perhaps this should be an optional situation. Sometimes VO is okay left on the phone. But then, when important notifications come in, they are missed because they don't get heard on the bluetooth speaker. Sometimes, you would like to hear important texts through the speaker. I'll say this however. Updating the phone will still allow you to hear your music through your speaker. VO should definitely be a preference. Peace & Blessings, Pastor Duane L. RE: Resolving a Bluetooth and voiceover issue with external speaker
If you want that you can get an Airplay capable speaker which does exactly what you say. I personally completely agree that with a Bluetooth speaker Voiceover and all sounds should come over the speaker, after all, if you plug in a headset or wired speaker you don't expect just the music to come over the speaker and Voiceover to stay on the device. Many Bluetooth speakers have microphones and you can have your phone charging somewhere while listening to music or an audio book elsewhere, but in that case I prefer to also hear notifications on the speaker, hear Voiceover announcing an incoming call etc. This is obviously a bug which affects Bose and a few other devices, I personally don't have any devices which do this. Both my Wonderboom 2 and my Outdoor Tech Turtle speakers play all audio via the speaker and so do my headphones, a Logitech H800, an Aftershokz Air and a Plantronics Edge. A good friend of mine has a Bose speaker (not sure which one), but I'll maybe ask him to bring it tonight since he is coming here for dinner and I'll connect to it and see what happens.
