Hi again!
Actually not. If you double tap the text field in iMessage and
raise the phone to your ear you'll hear the sound and you can
begin to talk. The moment you take  your device down the audio
iMessage will be sent. If you have your device unlocked and
receive audio iMessage when you raise the phone you can listen to
  it.

Re: iOS 10, iMessages and braille screen input question

2016-09-19 Thread Chris Chaffin

Is your phone in portrait lock?

I would guess no. I noticed on my phone, that when switching to landscape
mode, it would call the edit field the handwriting area. This can be a little
confusing. I would guess this is what you are hearing.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Re: iOS 10, iMessages and braille screen input question

2016-09-19 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Anna,

I have been having trouble writing text messages with the on screen braille
keyboard since iOS 8, and I have not found a solution yet.
Now, I will say that I do not have trouble with the on screen braille keyboard
anywhere else, just in the messages app. This is what happens.

* I first open messages, then open the conversation screen for who I want to
send the message too.
* I go down to the bottom of the screen and double tap on the message field to
type my message.
* I turn my rotor to braille input and hold my phone in landscape mode, getting
ready to type.
* When I try typing on the on screen braille keyboard, nothing happens. As
soon as I turn my phone back to portrait mode, I hear a beep like sound, and
when I check, I find out that a message was recorded, and the beep was it
ending.

It seems that somehow by putting the phone in landscape mode to type, activates
the recording button, and then putting it back in portrait mode turns off the
recording button.
I have tried it with portrait mode locked, and unlocked. I have no idea why
the recording button is being activated, and I know this is strange, but I can
not find a solution or work around.

If you have any ideas of a possible solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi

I tried this on my iphone 6, writing a message to my wife, who also has an
iphone, but I was not seeing this problem. I could do the braille writing
with no problem whatsoever.

Hi Woody,

I have gone to the rotor, made sure handwriting is not selected.

After I select the recipient, I flick to the right with one finger, go
past the digital touch button and find the message area.
I double tap witha single finger to make sure I have an edit field, then
select braille screen input.
I turn my phone to landscape mode, and then hear "handwriting area" (even
though handwriting is not selected).

Sratching head.
Maybe I'll do a reset of the settings and start from scratch.
(I forgot to say I'm running an iPhone 6).

Hi Bob,

Make sure Handwriting isn't on. You should be able to have both on, but
if you're not using it, maybe getting it out of the way will help. Go to
Settings/General/Accessibility/VoiceOver/Rotor, and make sure Handwriting

Also, make sure you're in the message body, not digital touch.

I hope that helps. I routinely use onscreen braille input to write text
messages, so it can definitely be done.

Anna

braille screen input question

2015-04-08 Thread don bishop
I'm enjoying braille screen input, but trying to figure what setting I need to
change so vo speaks characters. I sometimes hit the keyboard inthe wrong spot
and don't get the characters I intended. A good example is the to field of a
message. I can get ^ows okay, but can't seem to get vo to speak characters.
Yet, if I enter the name of an app from the homescreen, each character is
spoken as I enter them. Just seems a bit odd.

Thanks,
Don

Re: braille screen input question

2015-04-08 Thread Christopher Hallsworth
If you use contracted Braille Screen Input then VO will not speak any
characters. As I understand it the word is held in some kind of buffer
set by the translator. The buffer is then released when you do a space
or newline. If you set it to Six Dot with a three finger swipe to the
left or right then VO will speak by character providing it is set that
way in settings, general, accessibility, VoiceOver and typing feedback.

If you set it to Six Dot with a three finger swipe to the left or right then
VO will speak by character providing it is set that way in settings, general,
 accessibility, VoiceOver and typing feedback.

Braille screen input question

2014-12-01 Thread Tim Emmons
Guys, I have a curious question and not sure how to fix it , if it's a bug or
what. I'm running an iPhone 5S, with IOS 8.1.1 and Saturday I had my phone, was
about to respond to a message, the phone went wonky for a minute, like it got
confused ( I was in the middle of nowhere with hardly no signal but I didn't
think it would do this) but I went to text someone back, using braille screen
input, and every time I go to Braille screen input using the rotar, Voiceover
crashes, comes back, and I'm at the top of my messages out of the edit box, and
every time now I try to use braille screen input voiceover totally crashes and
reboots. I've tried rebooting the phone, I've tried reseting all settings, no
change. I haven't resorted to restoring it from a backup but that's my next
step if I can't find an answer. Does anyone have a clue as to what's up/ Thanks
for any help you guys can throw my way. Take care and talk to you soon.

Re: Braille screen input question

Have you tryed removing the braille screen input from the rotor and adding it
back?
To do this go to settings general accessibility voiceover rotor and then choose
braille screen input.
Same steps apply when re adding the option back.
