Hi Mark, No idea, I haven't created a backup on the computer for years I'll give it a go and let you know what happens. sf -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of M. Hello Simon, Okay, I fired up my Windows 7 64-bit machine which is currently running iTunes 12.6.5.x. As with my 32-bit system, I ran the Apple software updater and, just like on the 32-bit system, it does not display iTunes as an option to update, only iCloud for Windows. So, the proverbial party may be over, as far as my Windows 7 computers are concerned. I just wonder about the link from Tech crunch that provides links to older versions of iTunes and even iTunes 12.10.x in both 64-bit and 32-bit flavors. Were I a younger man, I would chance it but, alas, as I have no desire to engage in hours of trouble shooting from a corrupted or compromised copy of the software ... A couple of years ago, the updater would list both the iCloud control panel for Windows and iTunes. Now, however, it only list the iCloud control panel. I have a lot of 32-bit only software on this computer that I use for work. And, while I will certainly have to get a new computer with Windows 10, at present, I want to continue using this PC for as long as possible. I purchased this particular PC back in 2009 and it runs like a champ. I believe the hardware on the PC is 64-bit but, as I stated, some of the old software is running 32-bit. I found a site from Tech Crunch that offers iTunes 12.10.x for Windows 7, 32-bit but I am somewhat leery of sites offering iTunes downloads when Apple, itself, does not. Something just doesn't seem right about that. Now, I have another Windows 7 PC, that is running 64-bit Windows. I will attempt to run the Apple software updater on that PC and see what happens. What I find most interesting is that on the Apple download site, one can find much older versions of iTunes for Windows but not iTunes 12.7; this makes no sense to me. I may have to wait until I purchase a new Desktop running Windows 10 before I can move forward on this but I never would have guessed that this would be the case. Had I known that my option to update to the latest version of iTunes would be at issue, I would have updated last year, when I had the chance. Thank you all for your feedback on this. Christopher, One of the big reasons for going into 64 bit systems was also that RAM quotas in 32 bit machines topped out useage at 3.6 gigabytes give or take 100 meg, As systems needed more ram to run, the 64 bit system allowed machines to utilize those ram amounts over the 4 gig levels. Aswell as 64bit systems allowed for more to be happening at one time on a machine. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Sunday, 1 November 2020 4:48 pm To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: iTunes for Windows 7, on a 32-bit PC, anyone? Sorry, I got my versions of Windows confused. Below when I said Windows 2000, I meant Windows XP. Although there was a 64-bit version of Windows XP, it was Windows Vista that was released with both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version. This happened in the mid-2000's. Here's an article that talks about 64-bit computing, including Apple and the iPhone: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit_computing#:~:text=In%202003%2C%2064-bit%20CPUs%20were%20introduced%20to%20the,ARMv8-A%20Apple%20A7%20system%20on%20a%20chip%20%28SoC%29. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Gmail > -Original Message- > From: Christopher Chaltain > Sent: Saturday, October 31, 2020 10:48 PM > To: viphone@googlegroups.com > Subject: RE: iTunes for Windows 7, on a 32-bit PC, anyone? > > Sorry, I never meant to imply that there weren't machines running the 32-bit > version of Windows Seven. Hi Mark, We are of like mind about it not being a good idea to download iTunes 12.10.x 32-bit from a non-Apple source. I'm sorry my suggestion did not help and I hope you're able to figure something out. Alan -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M. Hello Everyone, Okay, up until now, I have continued to use my old Windows 7, 32-bit Desktop as my primary iTunes Library manager. As a result, I have iTunes 12.6.5.x on a Windows 7 PC. As you may recall, once upon a time, this version allowed one to access the app store. While it continues to allow one to access the App Store, it no longer supports device backup on anything running iOS 13 or later. So, reluctantly, given that it would appear that Apple's decision to remove the app store from iTunes is permanent; and given that I would, once again, prefer to have actual iTunes backups of my devices, I have decided to upgrade iTunes 12.6.x to the latest version of iTunes. So, I went to apple.com/itunes and, to my surprise, there does not appear to be a 32-bit version of iTunes 12.7 available. Have I waited too long to update? The only older versions of iTunes I can find on that particular site are versions older than 12.6 and all appear to be 64-bit only. So, I have two questions: 1. What is the latest version of iTunes for Windows? Keep in mind that I do not have access to the Microsoft store on a Windows 7, 32-bit PC. 2. Does anyone know from where I may download the latest 32-bit version of iTunes for Windows 7? Is anyone running a version of iTunes for Windows that allows for backing up iOS / iPad OS running versions of the operating system that are at least 13.x or higher, that was not downloaded from the Microsoft Store? RE: iTunes for Windows 7, on a 32-bit PC, anyone?
So, is there anyone on the list who can make a successful backup of a device running iOS 13. Or later on a Windows 7 computer running iTunes 12.6.5? Yes running 64bit operating systems is hardware dependant, If you have a 32 bit architecture then you can't run 64 bit systems. But if you have a 64 bit system you can run either 32 or 64 bit systems. But if you have a 64 bit arch and are running a 32 bit os then you can only run 32 bit software, If you have a 64 bit architecture running a 64 bit Os then you can run either 32 or 64 bit software. However apple as of within the passed 2 years have made all their operating systems and architecture 64 bit only, So my assumption is that they have done away with 32 bit software because now in the 21st century every machine should be a 64 bit system -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Alan Lemly Sent: Sunday, 1 November 2020 4:56 am To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: iTunes for Windows 7, on a 32-bit PC, anyone? Ninite is a safe and good site. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of M. Simon, I might be wrong about this but I thought the ability to run 64-bit Windows was hardware dependent. I'm not convinced Mark could do what you suggest if his computer isn't capable of running 64-bit Windows. All replies greatly appreciated. Mark -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
