RE: Brailliant BI 14 display

2018-04-23 Thread Cris Ali
Thanks Ed,
I can see your point. I am not sure that a 14 braille cell display would be of
much use with a computer. It is simply too small. I need at least 40 cells
display to enjoy using with a computer.
A 14 cell braille display however, is small and easily portable. That makes
it an ideal companion for a smart phone to be used on the go.

Cheers,

Cris

I have both the Focus Blue 14 and now the Brilliant 14. I am not a big fan of
the Focus 14 as I feel that the device has way to many buttons. Those buttons
are useful for what they are there for with the use of Jaws. I feel that the
Brailliant 14 is much better suited for use with the iOS platform. It was built

Hi Mary and Chris

If it’s any help, I ordered and have received a Brailliant BI14, and am pleased
with what I saw. I like the size and weight of it - it makes it very portable
(much more so than other displays out there). I also really like the
stand-alone note taking feature on it - it just means you can get it out and
make notes really quickly/easily and then link those notes to your apple
devices when you have time/if you want to. Also, obviously, I like the fact it
will act as both a display and keyboard for my IPhone and IPad. There are a
couple of things I’d like to see improved, and I hope HumanWare will take them
on board.

Once I make my decision, I will likely go for the brilliant BI 14. In the past

If You do not mind, what are the few things you would like to see improved?
This will give me some idea about this device, since I have never actually seen
it. I only read its description online.

Cheers,

Cris

Hi Mary and Chris

If it’s any help, I ordered and have received a Brailliant BI14, and am pleased
with what I saw. I like the size and weight of it - it makes it very portable
(much more so than other displays out there). I also really like the
stand-alone note taking feature on it - it just means you can get it out and
make notes really quickly/easily and then link those notes to your apple
devices when you have time/if you want to. Also, obviously, I like the fact it
will act as both a display and keyboard for my IPhone and IPad. There are a
couple of things I’d like to see improved, and I hope HumanWare will take them
on board.

Hi Chris,
Well, those displays like the orbit 20 that are available for less than $500,
have compromises. Have you listened to demonstration of that thing? The sound
of the line refreshing would drive me crazy. It’s great that it exists, but
it’s not something I want. And I’m glad I have the choice.

No. For just under $1000, you were expecting it to duplicate the functionality
of devices costing double or more? It does not have the capabilities you
wanted. If you want that, be prepared to pay many thousands.

The Human ware description states that it can be used as a stand-alone device,
but it does not say much on what it can do in this mode other than taking notes
and having a timer and a stop watch. That is not that attractive. I like to
know what else it can do in the stand alone mode. Does it have a calculator?
Does it have a microphone and recording capabilities? Does it have an audio

If anyone can tell me more about it I will extremely appreciate it.

of devices costing double or more? It does not have the capabilities you
wanted. If you want that, be prepared to pay many thousands.

I wonder if anyone has or has seen one of these in action. It’s just
finally been released, having been announced last year. It’s claim to fame
is that it instantly will sync with your eye devices via an app that’s
available in the App Store. What interests me is to know if the notetaking
capability in the device is independent. That is. Can you access the
things you input using the device, manipulating the notes, deleting them
etc. If it’s not, I don’t find this terribly interesting. But for just
slightly less than $1000, I suppose it could be interesting if it really
could act as an independent notetaking device. I’m also not thrilled with
only 14 Braille cells. It’s hard to take that seriously.

2018-04-13 Thread Mary Otten
OK, thanks Eleanor. I wouldn’t expect it to be able to connect to say USB stick
or even an SD card. As you said in a previous message, you’re not going to read
an essay on it. And I’m not going to write the great American novel. I’m
waiting for our local dealer well sort of local, to have stopped. I guess this
battery thing must’ve slowed them down.

Re: Brailliant BI 14

2018-04-13 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi Mary

Yes, it does have on board internal storage capacity. There is a switch with 2
settings. If you have it to the left then the BI 14 runs its own internal notes
application, allowing you to make as many notes whenever and wherever you like.
You can then also ask the Brailliant to sync these notes to your I-device and
vice versa. If you flick the switch to the right then it just becomes a Braille
display/keyboard for your I-device. You can’t attach anything like a memory
stick to the Brailliant in order to provide external storage, but that’s not
the point of the machine - the point of it is to be able to make notes really
easily on the go without having to carry a lot of large equipment around with
you.

Hello,

Only time will tell. I think that HumanWare is looking at the Brailliant BI 14
being the only display for now with the sync feature, as it’s so portable. It
is a great start to slightly more affordable braille displays.

Thanks,

Ed

I also have the 32. I really like the ergonomics of it. But I would like
something that would let me take some notes. I certainly don’t want a
full-fledged blindness oriented note taker. But the ability to take notes or
have a list that I take to the store would be good. I was kind of hoping that

Re: Brailliant BI 14

2018-04-13 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi,
I have the Brailliant BI 32, but it's not an independent notetaker. Obviously
since it has 32 cells it is a very big device. It's not as portable as my
Refreshabraille 18 used to be.

Re: Brailliant BI 14

2018-04-13 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi Ed

I completely agree with all your points.

The biggest improvement I’d like to see would be the ability to unlock/wake
your IOS device from the Brailliant, rather than it always having to be the
other way round - that got really frustrating!!

On a slightly different point, but still one related to Braille
notetakers/displays. I’m currently writing a document in KeyWord on my
BrailleNote Touch, and I desperately need to put some page breaks in/force the
document to start a new page. I can’t work out for the life of me how to do it.
So if anyone knows would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Eleanor

Hello,

The Brailliant 14 is amazing. The connectivity is great. I did have an issue

Re: Brailliant BI 14

2018-04-13 Thread Mary Otten
Oh wow! Sorry to hear about the battery problem. I’m also curious to know what
the improvements are that you would like to see. I’m really glad it can be used
independently to access whatever you put in there. I wouldn’t see writing an
essay on it either. 14 sell display just wouldn’t lend itself to reading an
essay for one thing. But I could see it for meeting notes and shopping list
etc. Just I wish it had maybe 20 sales. I would pay a bit more for a few more
cells. Oh well.

Re: Brailliant BI 14

2018-04-13 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi Mary

Yes, I’ve seen and have purchased a Brailliant BI 14. It arrived a couple of
weeks ago, and I’ve been getting on well with it. It can either act as a
Braille display and keyboard for your I-device, or it can act as a totally
independent note taker.

Where interacting with an I-device is concerned, it seems to work very well and
does everything you’d expect it to. I do have a couple of criticisms of it, but
they are more like things that HumanWare could do to further improve the device
as opposed to actual criticisms, and I’ll certainly be feeding those back.

>From the point of view of the independent notetaker, yes, it works, and yes,
>you can delete notes etc. You can also then sync your notes to your I-devices

I was meant to be having a day’s training on it, but that’s been postponed for
now as the units have been recalled (something to do with the battery). So
hopefully once that’s happened I’ll know more about it.
