Interestingly enough, apple announced a new iPad Air last month that will have
touch ID built into the power button. I was really hoping they were going to do
the same with at least one of the new iPhone 12 models.

I'm pretty sure getting touch ID back onto an iPhone which doesn't currently
support it will require a new device. I'd assume this would even be true if you
had an under the screen finger print sensor.

Could that happen with an update, or would it require hardwarde.

Interestingly enough, apple announced a new iPad Air last month that will have
touch ID built into the power button. I was really hoping they were going to do
the same with at least one of the new iPhone 12 models.

Yes, you can since you also need the passcode after the phone restarts just as

I think where eventually this seems to be going is that you can put your finger
anywhere on the screen and it will recognize your finger print. If that becomes
a reality and it would be combined with Face Id and you could use either or
then that would be the perfect 10 out of 10, I could use Touch Id if the phone
was in my pocket or at night if I'm just reaching over to my phone on the side
table and I could use Face Id in the winter when I'm wearing gloves or if my
hands are scratched up from working in my woodworking shop.

For myself, I would rather have face ID then have touch ID on the back of the
phone, which I think is stupid, or under the screen, where I have to guess at
where the sensor might be. I thought Samsung had a good idea when they put it
on the side button with the galaxy, was it the nine or the 10 the cheap one I
think it was 10 year or something? That made some sense. Otherwise, I don’t see
the issue with Face ID. My 10 R works fine.

RE: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

You can use Face Id exactly in the same way as Touch Id to unlock your phone,
open apps which have their own security or approve sign-ins or Apple Pay
transactions.
Both have their advantages and I agree that ultimately if they come out with
phones where you can use either it would be the best of both worlds.

I like touch because it's very easy. I've never had face ID so I can only take
other people's wordAnother reason I like touch is that instead of entering your
password on websites, you can just use touch ID. How easy is that..

For my part, I just find touch ID to be a bit more convenient then face ID.
There are just those times when I don't need to hold the phone up to my face,
like when I'm lying down or sitting at a table. My hand is already on the
phone, since I have to touch the screen to interact with it, so it would be no

Touch ID doesn't need to be associated with a home button. Android phones have
touch ID sensors on the back of the phone or built into the power button. They
also have finger print sensors under the screen.

That is one of the rumours for the 2021 range of iPhone devices.

Interestingly enough, apple announced a new iPad Air last month that will have
touch ID built into the power button. I was really hoping they were going to do
the same with at least one of the new iPhone 12 models.

Oh well please feed that back to apple as they are the ones that thought the
change would be good and they must have got something right as they’ve sold a
lot of face id phones.

Re: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-15 Thread Michael Irons
I believe that people would like to have touch ID so that they can open their
phone easier when they have to wear a mask. We all need to remember COVID-19 is
still out there in all of us probably have to wear masks when we’re out and
about. Face ID will not work very well when you have to wear a mask.

Re: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-15 Thread Shirley Baker
I like touch because it's very easy. I've never had face ID so I can only take
other people's wordAnother reason I like touch is that instead of entering your
password on websites, you can just use touch ID. How easy is that..

I like touch a lot. I still have the old iPhone 6S plus. I'm glad they have it

For my part, I just find touch ID to be a bit more convenient then face ID.
There are just those times when I don't need to hold the phone up to my face,
like when I'm lying down or sitting at a table. My hand is already on the
phone, since I have to touch the screen to interact with it, so it would be no
big deal to use touch ID. With face ID though, I have to remember to then hold
it up to my face, and since I didn't do it immediately, I may have to do it

In a word, masks. That thing we all have to wear now when we go places or want
to board airplanes and such. For the record, I would love to have both face ID
and touch ID and a device, that way we have the ultimate choice.

I don't remember fingerprint ID ever not working, where, every now and then,
I'm probably a little off or something, but facial won't, and I use passcode -
have gotten fast at that too.

RE: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-15 Thread chaltain
For my part, I just find touch ID to be a bit more convenient then face ID.
There are just those times when I don't need to hold the phone up to my face,
like when I'm lying down or sitting at a table. My hand is already on the
phone, since I have to touch the screen to interact with it, so it would be no
big deal to use touch ID. With face ID though, I have to remember to then hold
it up to my face, and since I didn't do it immediately, I may have to do it
more then once or just resort to entering my PIN. I don't hate face ID, and I
wouldn't avoid buying a phone just because it didn't have touch ID, but with
all things being equal, I'd go with a phone that supported touch ID.

RE: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Both would be nice, but Apple always does what Apple does, they will release a
feature when they are good and ready and for the most part it will then be very
well done.
Who brought Touch Id to phones, it was Apple and the same goes for Face Id.
Yes, some Android phones may offer both, but I wouldn't be surprised that when
Apple does offer both it may very well work just a bit better than on most
other phones.
I am surprised nobody at all mentioned the fact that two products which got
talked up before and which were expected did not make it all, Apple Studio
headset and Apple Air Tags.

In a word, masks. That thing we all have to wear now when we go places or want
to board airplanes and such. For the record, I would love to have both face ID
and touch ID and a device, that way we have the ultimate choice.

Re: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-14 Thread Julian
hi Simon,

Perhaps I should have been a little clearer. I am meant in terms of these
non-touch ID phones as far as good battery life and overall best bang for the
buck. Obviously, if a newer flag ship model included touch ID I would no longer
say that about the iPhone XR.

RE: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-14 Thread Simon A Fogarty
You're disappointed at the 12 range not having touch id,
But you think the xr is the best phone they've produced,
I didn't think the XR had touch ID either?

Isn't it a face id device?

Re: But All I Wanted was Touch ID

2020-10-14 Thread Gordon
they have made mention of an SE3 coming early next year which would
feature a 6.1 inch screen and retain the touch ID. I can't imagine how
large the phone would be since there's going to be a home button, but
probably the same size at the pro max.

I am so disappointed. It's almost enough to make me leave the Apple
orchard; but not quite.

You know, I wouldn't have found the lack of a fingerprint sensor on the new
iPhone 12 series so startlingly disappointing if I were not using a
fantastic in-screen fingerprint reader on my Samsung Galaxy phone, every
single day. I mean, to my mind, if Samsung can do it, and do it extremely
well, I might add, then why not Apple?

Regardless, the proverbial seeds for this year's crop have been sewn and we
must reap, what we must.

I definitely see a new battery for my beloved 8 Plus in my near future.

I don't know, I may grab an S E but will attempt to hold onto my beloved 8
Plus for a little longer.
