RE: Mark on Echo
Hello Kelly, I completely understand your concern. Take it from me, using these devices is nothing like learning to use a screen reader. Trust me. On the one hand, there isn't much HomePod can do, as yet, and on the other? Alexa recognizes normal speech patterns. Having said this, I have decided that two Smart home systems is enough for me, at present. Translation? I'm not purchasing any Google Home speakers, anytime soon. (smile). Re: Mark on Echo
Well, before I got the Echo I was just using the calendar local to my iPhone. But when I started playing with Alexa I found that iCloud calendar worked well since I could have my events proliferated across my devices. So not only do my events show on my iPhone and my Echo, but I also see them on my iPad which I never could before. There are other choices for calendar linking in the Alexa app. iCloud is just the one that seems to work the best for me. RE: Mark on Echo
My issue with Alexa is that I find that unless you use a skill all the time I may simply forget what I have to say to get a particular skill to reply. Yes, Alexa can answer quite a few things natively, but so far I have found all these skills not super useful. We mostly use Alexa to turn our Philipps Hue lights on or off, so far the integration with our Honeywell Lyric Thermostat is not working even though it says the skill is set up and we do use it for timers in the kitchen and occasionally as an intercom. I have a fibre internet connection with 125 Mb download and 10 Mb upload but find that making phone calls is often not a great experience, we can hear the other party just fine bu tthey often say there is a big Echo (maybe that is where the name comes from)and the audio on their end is choppy. How did you integrate your calendar and contacts with the echo? I am more interested in the calendar as that would be super handy. I felt the same as you do which is why I got the first one when it was only $29. I figured for $29 even if I didn't use it or like it I wasn't losing very much. But I've found several uses for my echoes and sometimes it is just fun. On 2/20/18, Patti Johnson wrote: > I reckon I'm the last one on my block, as it were, to get an Echo. > I don't have one. Re: Mark on Echo
I reckon I'm the last one on my block, as it were, to get an Echo. I don't have one. I fear I wouldnt' use it much. I have alexa on my fire tv and don't even use that. But I do have a question. If you get the Echo plus, do you have to get the smart plug then? If you don't then that could bring up some possible uses, though my lamps are on an automatic timer and it's no big deal to adjust the thermostat on my talking one.I have used Alexa on the fire tv to play music with my Amazon prime subscription of unlimited music but still it's not something I do very much. So I don't know. Patti On 2/20/18, Kimber Gardner wrote: > I have to say I bought my first Echo around Xmas when they were deeply > discounted. Hi Mark, What is your reason for the Echo Plus? It is the same as the Echo but with built-in smart hub which is supposed to help connect to various smart home devices (if you have them).
