RE: Recording apps

2022-11-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is called Pocket Recorder and since I didn't remember any more either I just
read a bit further down in the thread, after all, the messages are there so all
you have to do is read them.
The original poster even made it a link, all you have to do is bring up a links
list and type "P" and it's the first and only entry starting with P.

If I go to a web site for support, I expect the name of the app to be mentioned at the very least. Not to mention in the app store, nothing is said to connect the app to Sweetman systems. My only point is, that is not a very good way to offer support. But, it look! like a perfectly good basic recording app that no doubt will meet a lot of needs. If you know them; perhaps they could put an email addreffbbs in the app description. Richard, USA.“What we think or what we know or what we believe is in the end of little consequence. That makes no sense.
And, if you use headphones, it only records through the headphone microphone; which means you will only record yourself; which may be fine for what some folks want.
It does have a clear tutorial and does indeed work with relative ease.

The one clearly negative review said it was only good for recording yourself.  They tried to use it to record a doctor appointment and heard nothing but themselves.

I’ll check the app out since it appears to be free.

Hi Richard,

Just a note on zoom,

Yes you can record the call but you have to have been the one who setup the
call in zoom,
The host if I remember correctly,

They are the only ones able to record an active call / meeting.

Otherwise should be good to go.

There are not really any apps for that as Apple doesn't allow it.
There are some apps that use a conference line idea but that puts your call on
the cloud and I've not heard anything good about those.
If you could set up a Zoom meeting, you may be able to record the Zoom call.
Otherwise you would need to put the call on speaker and use a separate
recording device.

I have both, and I think they probably are each good for different things. If I
am getting someone's contact information, the Just Press Record app is nice
because of its ability to transcribe. That saves having to memorize information
as you switch from the recording to your contact list. Just for quick
recording's, you can't beat dropbox, though. It is so simple to start and stop.

List Recorder Full, $7.99 records until you run out of memory if you want.

Re: recording apps

2016-06-09 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Sieghard,

You make very good points. I bought the app a long time ago and it still works
fine, but I can definitely understand being reluctant to buy it at this point.
Since many of the apps that haven't been updated in a long time still work with
the latest OS, I wouldn't want Apple to remove them automatically, especially
because doing so would mean that people who use Apple's default settings would
lose access to them if they restore from backups.

One thing I like about List Recorder is that it gives you the option to record
in stereo and to record in uncompressed WAV. Does anyone know of another app
that does this and is easy to use?

Best,
Anna

RE: recording apps

2016-06-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I used to have List Recorder, but when I want to record something I prefer a
very simple solution and I would agree with the recommendation for Dropvox. I
remember when List Recorder first came out it was very well liked and regarded,
but I just checked on the app store and while it's still there for $0.99, it
hasn't been updated since November 2013 when the latest "What's New"
description was "iOS 7 compatibility". It would appear that the developer has
abandoned the project since I am sure List Recorder which can also do text
notes could benefit from using share extensions. I guess one could say that why
fix something that isn't broke so if the app works it works, but it is nice to
see updates every now and then. I personally rarely buy an app or download a
free one which hasn't been updated for several years.
I wonder if one could search the millions of apps and filter out all apps which
haven't been updated say for 2 years how many would be left and also whether
Apple has some sort of rule according to which apps which haven't been updated
for a certain time are taken off the store.

Sieghard

Hi,
There is also the native Voice Memos app. You could use this to record
and upload the files to Dropbox. The files are recorded as m4a if that
makes any difference. As far as I know, there is no time limit on the
recording.

Re: recording apps

2016-06-08 Thread Brandon Olivares
I use Dropvox. It automatically uploads recordings to Dropbox. And, I don’t
think there’s a recording limit. I’ve recorded for an hour at a time before
without an issue.

You just double tap the button to start recording, then double tap again to
stop.

Hi,
have not used their transcription service. Last time I remember, it
was one dollar per minute, not sure if they have a subscription plan, you
may want to contact them for those specific questions as they will give you
accurate information. If you don't want to use their transcription service,
you are able to play back your recordings and and do all of the other things
that are not transcription related.

My issue with the built-in Voice Memos app is that sometimes, iTunes goes nuts
and makes duplicate copies of memos that you've recorded and synced with
iTunes. I was probably just not doing something right. I was trying to sync the
memos with iTunes while at the same time wanting them to not be on my iPhone.
Anyhow, I heard of Dropbox, bought it, and haven't looked back since. You might
want to give it a shot. You could also try out Rev Voice Recorder. I believe it
it's Bree.

Re: recording apps

2014-05-14 Thread Jeff Samco

Hello, Joseph,

I went ahead and purchased the ClearRecord app. As you said, it is
pretty straight forward. However, your helpful tips did not address
renaming a recording. There is a Compose button on each individual
recording page. There is then a Rename button. I tried renaming a
file and I did enter a name. However, the new name never shows up
anywhere the file is listed. Do you or anyone else know how to rename
a file to something more meaningful than the recording length? BTW, I
am using VoiceOver.

Thanks,
Jeff

At 08:40 AM 5/13/2014, Joseph FreeTech wrote:

Hi patty,

To meet my quick audio Note recording needs on iOS I have been using a small
app called ClearRecord which was suggested by a person named Janet Ingbar.
It costs only $1 and is very accessible. Smile. Here's some info I typed
up for another lister.

When you open the app touch the bottom left hand corner of the screen
(Settings button) and swipe twice to the left. You will come across the
record button, so double-tap that button. You are now recording.

To stop the recording touch the bottom left hand corner of the screen, which
is the Settings button, and you can then swipe to the right once.
Double-tap on the done button. The recording will stop.

When the recording stops you will be on the recording list screen where you
can locate all of your recordings. If you want to go back to the main screen
where you can make another recording, simply execute a scrub gesture by
using 2 fingers to draw a letter Z on the screen.

To review your recording(s) simply double-tap the bottom right-hand corner
of the screen which is the List button. On the subsequent screen swipe
from top down about 3 times or until you read the list of recordings. Each
of your recordings will start with the words Main label. Double-tap this
Main label button to hear each independent recording. If you have made a few
recordings, you will notice that each recording will have a different time
associated with it, which you can use to differentiate one recording from
another.

To delete a recording simply highlight a recording, wait until it has
finished playing, then simply swipe down once, and you should be presented
with the Delete button so double-tap the button; answer the prompt as you
would like.

I have gone into the Settings screen and configured the app to begin
recording immediately after I double-tap on the app on my Home screen. I
have done this for those times when I'm talking to someone, and he or she
conveys information such as a phone number or address I would like to have
for future reference. I simply turn on my iPod Touch 5th gen and double-tap
on the ClearRecord icon sitting on the fourth spot on the dock--the app
immediately begins recording. Again, you will have to read from top to
bottom of the Settings screen to make this adjustment. Everything in the
settings screen is really easy to understand. I have also set ClearRecord to
save my recordings as Wav files as they deliver best recording quality--in
my opinion.

Remember, this is not a professional recording app, it is only $1 after all,
so your uses should follow accordingly. The app. will continue recording if
you press the Home button and navigate through your iPod Touch or iPhone
etc, which is why it is important you get into the habit of either insuring
you have manually stopped the recording, or you can simply go into the App
switcher and remove Clear Record with a 3-finger swipe up. If you forget to
stop the recording, you could accidentally leave your iPod Touch recording
which will of course use storage space.

If you have ClearRecord to begin recording immediately after you double-tap
on the Home screen icon, please understand that it will begin recording and
you will have to manually stop it as I have described above. It may seem
like lots of steps, but it only took me about 10 minutes to figure out the
entire app as it seems to be 100% accessible.

Oh yeah, when you sync your iDevice to your computer, the recordings will be
backed up to iTunes.

Joseph

Joseph

Hi Patti,

You may also want to see whether the built-in voice Memos app meets your
recording needs. It can't record in stereo and it records to a compressed
format, but it would be fine for many purposes.

Best,

Another thing I like about this app is that if you want to transfer the

Lori,

I use this app regularly and it does a very fine job. I've recorded
meetings, doctor visits, and other things with it and I've been happy with
the quality of every recording. It's going to be hard to eliminate the
background noise regardless of what app you use. Perhaps an external mic
might be an added benefit but I think you might be happy enough just trying
Rev.

I've found that simply using the built-in mic on the phone works best. All
of my recordings are crystal clear and professional sounding as far as the

Another thing I like about this app is that if you want to transfer the

There was a crackling sound and the recording level was very low.

This was with the Apple earpods plugged in.

I switched to List Recorder, and the quality of the recording was just fine.

Re: recording apps

2014-03-28 Thread Raul A. Gallegos

Hi all , the following are some good recording apps.

I won't talk about RevRecorder and List Recorder because others already
did a great job at that.

First. The developer Lin Fei makes a number of recording apps which can
quickly seem confusing. The one I have from this person is called
Recording Pro. It works well with Voice Over too. What I really like is
that it gives you the option to record in the Apple format, or mp3 or
wav. You can then either grab your recordings via iTunes file sharing or
via a built-in web browser. Recording Pro also has a password feature to
lock the app and in case this matters, Voice Over speech isn't disabled
while you are recording. All buttons are clearly labeled. I've given a
link below to Recording Pro since like I said, this developer has many
similar apps out there.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/recording-pro/id523581445?mt=8

Second. Voxie Recorder Pro by Bottle Rocket. I have written many times
on this list about this one. It has similar features to Recording Pro in
that you can download your recordings via iTunes file shar, or web
browser. It also lets you choose between Apple aif and wav, but not mp3.
It doesn't have a password protection feature. One of my favorite
features of this app is the shake to start and stop. If you go into the
Express recording, you can shake your device and start your recording.
Then shake it to stop. Voice Over is disabled while the app is recording
and I like that because then I don't have to edit it out later from my
final recordings if I want to use them. The link to Voice follows.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/voxie-pro-recorder/id294895817?mt=8

Last. Dropvox by Irradiated Software. This app will allow uploading of
your recordings to your Dropbox account. It's voice over friendly and
works rather well. I haven't used it in a while so don't remember all
it's good points. Sorry about that. However the link is below.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dropvox-record-voice-memos/id416288287?mt=8

Ootunes and TuneIn Pro can both record streaming audio. I prefer Ootunes for
this purpose because by default, it is recording everything. That means if
you hear something and think, I wish I'd recorded that, you actually have,
all you have to do is save the recording. By default, Ootunes keeps the last
2 or 3 things you listened to, and overwrites those recordings unless you
expressly save them. Very cool idea.

Ootunes and TuneIn Pro can both record streaming audio. I prefer Ootunes
 for
this purpose because by default, it is recording everything. That means
 if
you hear something and think, I wish I'd recorded that, you actually
 have,
all you have to do is save the recording. By default, Ootunes keeps the
 last
2 or 3 things you listened to, and overwrites those recordings unless you
expressly save them. Very cool idea.

Re: recording apps for IPhone

2012-12-07 Thread Grant Hardy
Apps like TuneIn and Ootunes backup recordings you save to iCloud and
iTunes. Your iTunes backups are stored in a local folder on your
computer. In Windows for example, it should be
c:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\backup. If
you make a backup in iTunes, apps like iBackupBot and iPhone Backup
Extractor will let you browse the tree structure of your backups and
copy files from them. So all you'd need to do is access the folder
where Ootunes stores your data and copy the files to another folder on
your computer. You could actually do this yourself, without the aid of
any other program, if you make an unencrypted backup. The trouble is
that file names are obfuscated so you might be hard pressed to tell
what file is what, though of course the file size might help.

This information was conveyed to me by an app developer of a radio app
for iOS. No modifying your phone at all, no voiding warranties.

Note: apps like iBackupBot allow you to modify backups as though they
are regular folders on your hard drive. So you could, say, set up your
phone as a new device, but restore your old SMS messages.

 Hi Jonathan and all.
Is there any limit on how much you can save? And can you move these
 recordings to other apps?

Ootunes and TuneIn Pro can both record streaming audio. I prefer Ootunes
 for
this purpose because by default, it is recording everything. That means
 if
you hear something and think, I wish I'd recorded that, you actually
 have,
all you have to do is save the recording. By default, Ootunes keeps the
 last
2 or 3 things you listened to, and overwrites those recordings unless
 you
expressly save them. Very cool idea.
