Both are connected to the same network connection via the same wireless
network (Time Machine).
One gets 0.30Mb/s download speed (when measured using Speedtest.net), the
other gets 53Mb/s (as do other computers on

Thanks for the ultra quick response.
Yes, that's the site I mean. When I try to access it I get this
message:Safari can’t open the page “http://pure-mac.com/” because Safari can’t
find the server “pure-mac.com”.
But you have no difficulties? Interesting. I could get to it just fine

Hi again Bill,
I now remember answering this question not long ago on WAMUG.
Open Systems preferences NETWORKPROXIES and check if Web Proxy (HTTP) is
checked and there is a numerical value in the Web Proxy Server.
If so UNCHECK it. Safari doesn't like proxy servers. .

Hi Hugh,
Not sure why it would be closed. It may be related to the AppleInsider story
linked below that Random House books are now available in the iBookstore, but I
don't see why they would need to close iTunes to add items. It will be
interesting to see if changes are coming.
Hi again,
I should have checked first. It's not closed for me. I am logged in to the
Australian site.

The Applestore is down,...unless you mean that one,..hehe :)
Was going to say, we may see the iTunes store go down if they are
implementing a few more behind the scenes features they keep talking about
to tie in with the changes to MobileMe
But I think that's still down the track a little
Hi Mike
Thank you for your suggestion to use vuescan.
I downloaded the vuescan program, and tried it out, but the same
problem arose- there is no scanner connected to the computer. The
scanner is only recognised when attached with a cable. (Not sure why
it recognises the printer but
Hi Rosie
Did you try Apple's Image Capture. (in Applications folder)
I've sometimes found that wireless scanners which won't show up under the
manufacturers own software, work under Image Capture perfectly. (And
sometimes even better).
I also found with some clients the Canon scanner software

So you were right about IOS 4.3.
In another standard Apple move, thinner = change all your cases and
accessories. Good for some...not for those of us who have a heap of cases
etc in stock. :-(
I smell a sale.

Oh I don't need one. But I WANT one.

I will be thinking all day, how can I justify buying one (I know Ronni, you
told Alan we don't need to justify these purchases, but...).
