Hi Neil, I have only ever had the one Apple ID and it is showing correctly in
the Settings panel. So can safely say that’s not my issue here. Thanks for the
tip though Neil.

Re: [WAMUG] Music - "This device is already associated with an Apple ID"

2022-03-28 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi Robin, thanks and I do agree with you here. But when the device was
purchased, the previous owner had erased the device (both of them) and so to do
that, they necessarily have to sign out of their Apple account to do the erase.
But I assume it is still possible the device remains associated with the
previous owner’s Apple iD. I have asked them to check so will wait to see.

If I have to go down the path of option 1 below, how do I even confirm
ownership of the device without a verifiable receipt? The iPhone i have a
transaction with eBay seller, the iPad I don’t. I presume I could get a
statement from her as she was the original purchaser.

Regards

Peter.

Re: [WAMUG] Music - "This device is already associated with an Apple ID"

2022-03-28 Thread Neil Houghton
Hi Pete,

Probably a long shot but, way back in the past, I used two different Apple IDs
(long story - one was for things that were only available through the US iTunes
store).

Is there any way that you possibly have two Apple IDs and you have linked the
new  iPad and iPhone to a different ID to the MacBook (or possibly even created
a new ID when you setup one of the new devices) – this could explain the
message and why the devices are not showing up against your main ID (the
MacBook one).

Just a thought.

Cheers

Neil

2022-03-28 Thread Robin Belford
Peter,
I think you have a deeper problem. As you have described these devices as being
used, that is having a previous owner I think they are still associated with
the previous owners iTunes id, which is/can be different from their iCloud id.
In earlier versions of iOS an extra step of diss-association of the device from
iTunes was required and perhaps this was not done prior to disposal by the
previous owner.

At this stage you have three options;
go to an Apple Store and get your device reset, providing you can establish
your bonifide ownership of said device.
if you know the previous owner tale it to them and get them to logout of iTunes
on your (new/used) devices.
jailbreak your device as detailed in the link from Ronni.
regards,

Robin

Re: [WAMUG] Music - "This device is already associated with an Apple ID"

2022-03-28 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi Ronni, I have had a read of this and it takes me down the same path
suggesting I have too many devices associated to the Apple ID. I previously
purged all old devices I no longer have from being associated (there were many)
and I now have just 2 devices left associated with my Apple ID (I believe Apple
permits up to 10 devices). But my new (used) iPad Air 4 and iPhone 11, neither
are showing as associated devices in my “Manage Devices” window. All my
playlists work in the Music app on these devices - made up of subscribed music
and self bought music. I bought the iPad on Jan 13 2022 so still less than 90
days from when the previous owner disassociated her Apple ID from the iPad and
iPhone was delivered just last week. I suppose I have to wait until April 13th
(90 days from purchase date) to see if the iPad corrects itself. I can’t see
what else it can be.

Pete.

Hi Ronni, thanks I’ve not tried that particular one before, I am reading it now

Will advise back here either way.

[WAMUG] Music - "This device is already associated with an Apple ID"

2022-03-28 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi folks, a short while ago I bought an iPad Air 4 and did the usual easy Apple
setup which all went fine. A few days into this new ownership I tried the Music
app to play some song (I am an Apple Music Subscriber) Phil Collins Sussudio
from the No Jacket Required album. On the iPad screen I got the following.

This device is already associated with an Apple ID Cancel or Transfer.

I have read lots of threads (Apple Discussions as well as others) on trying to
resolve this issue but I have been unsuccessful.

I am able to play this very same selected song from my Macbook (owned since new
in 2013) Music app with no issues.

I also did get myself a new (near new) iPhone 11 last week too - same problem
there “This device is already associated with an Apple ID Cancel or Transfer”.
Is it possible that both of these devices had a previous owner is the cause of
this? They were provided to me in an erased state but I did a full erase of
each before my set up though.

I have also Managed the device count with my Apple ID and all old devices
purged for there, still no change.

I hope someone has had this and successfully resolved so keen to hear tips.

Regards

Pete.
