Hi Laura --
-- I find it is useful to check what the router status is. The router
has an 'internet address' which you can open with your browser, just
as if it was a page on the internet.
-- In your browser, type
http://10.1.1.1/status.stm
-- This is the address for my Belkin router, it's
Hi Laura, Hi Ronni,
Just to add an observation, when Ronni says:
Make sure your modem is working: All the lights should be on except one and
that should be blinking erratically.
I have found that - if the lights are not correctly lit, it will indicate a
problem - BUT just because the lights
Hi Ronni, Tim, David and Neill
Thank you Ronni for taking the time to send such a detailed email, particularly
as you are away for the weekend.
I'll work through your suggestions, along with those of Tim, David and Neill.
In the meantime I've suggested that for the next few days my friend
Hi Ronni
I've been able to speak to my friend and here are the answers to your questions.
She loses the connection while using the internet.
Not sure about whether cable or ADSL and she will try and find that out. I'm
inclined to think it would be the latter but only guessing.
The router is
I have a noisy phone line. When the home phone rings I lose the ADSL
connection. Is this the case for your friend?

Hi Rob
That must be most annoying for you!
However I've been present on a number of occasions when the connection has been
lost and it's had nothing to do with a phone call. I've always assumed it was
just a Telstra thing but until yesterday had no idea just how often the problem

Check your in-line filters as these can deteriorate and cause drop-outs when
the phone is in use.

I think the only way is to buy/borrow one and install that on your phone and
then ring the phone and check the result. If you have more than one phone on
your system try disconnecting all but one and try your filters in turn on that
line, you may then find one gives more the problem and
Hi Laura,
I left to go away for the week-end before receiving your reply. I will only
have limited access to my email until late Sunday.
We need to know what broadband she has, ADSL or Cable.
Also the Belkin N Wireless Router will have a model number, this will help us
find if it requires a
Laura,
I used to have a lot of similar problems that in the end came down to a
combination of things all on my phone line input side.
- Make sure the telephone cable from the router to the socket has proper
connections that are all clicked into place, and not knocked out of place or

Good morning all
This is a query on behalf of a friend who is a fairly new Mac user. She loves
her iMac but the enjoyment is being taken away by her frustration at constantly
losing internet connection.
Her ISP is Telstra. When she phones Telstra to complain about the
disconnections they
Hi laura
We will need more info!
Does the router loose connection to Telstra or is it just the iMac loosing
connection?

Roger

Hi Roger Peter
Thanks for that but not sure if I have the answer. Except yesterday I took my
MacBook to my friend's house with the idea of using it if she was having
problems. That didn't work because when she lost connection I was unable to
connect either! Suppose that indicates a Telstra
