Paul, the Remshaw House was also used as Mrs. Wiley's in My Fair Ernest T.
It is the house immediately to the right of Andy's on 40 Acres. You can
even see Andy's garage in a shot on from Mrs. Wiley's front lawn, but when
Ernest T. and Romeena go skipping off, the camera shot doesn't show Andy's
OMG - can you imagine Barney with an electronal marvel like a cell phone in
his pocket. Think of all the havoc he created with just one meesley little
old bullet in his pocket.
Poor Andy would never get any courting done in Barney had a phone 24/7. And
poor old Sarah would be out of a job.
Hey Ken you're right, I didn't think about all those other magic tricks
going on.
Every time I see Jim Linsey playing that guitar I ask my husband how does
he get those electric guitar sounds out that acoustic guitar??? curious,
curious, curious.
I must not be too much of a trained noticer, I've
I had to chuckle when I read the comment about how magical a place Mayberry
was; no screens on the windows, yet never a bug one.
For Mayberry to be placed in the South (yet with out window screens), and
no bugs always got me. I have never known southerners to have homes with out
screens,
...With very rare exceptions, all of the buildings seen in Mayberry were
nothing but empty shells. Some of them didn't even have roofs or backs, they
were nothing but facades.

interiors were almost always shot at the Desilu studios, a few miles away.
Now, don't tell me that. Mayberry is
The Old Remshaw Place was previously Mayor Stoner's house. The house was
dressed appropriately for 'The Haunted House' episode. Before that, it was
Aunt Pittypat's house from 'Gone With the Wind' (1939). Later, it was the
Black Widow's lair on 'Batman.' The house was next door to the Taylor
Love the stuff you folks have come up with lately, thanks for interesting
reading. Haven't contributed in a while so I thought I would join in.
Kim, I'm not sure a cell phone would have done Barney any good. I don't think
you can get any bars all the way out at Myer's Lake.
Mike, we had
I always figured Mayberry was set in the late 50's-early 60's by the cars that
were used, and also by some of the real people opie mentioned - Elvis Presley,
Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford.
Other than Floyd's admiration for Calvin Coolidge, what other non-fictional
people do you remember mentioned
Paul's question about the Remshaw house got me to thinking about the
various houses in Mayberry. I was basing my guess on interiors vs.
exteriors. After a quick Scan of some of the Real Estate on the books
with Fife Reality, I have the following the report.
I was also going to guess that Mrs.
Congratulations to everyone who correctly identified Mayor Stoner's house and
the Remshaw House as one and the same. The same house was also used as Mrs.
Wiley's, but that's not the answer I had in mind since my original question
concerned main characters, and we only saw Mrs. Wiley in that one
I grew up in Hot Springs, AR and they didn't switch to dial phones until the
mid-fifties. You picked up the receiver and the operator would come on and ask
Number please. At that time we had a population of probably 30 thousand.
Not a small town! And it was a candlestick phone like they
