Well, not that I would ever discourage a biblical reference, but my grandmother was from Virginia and they often prefaced a statement by saying, I tell you the truth.. Another good one that I noticed in Mayberry that my grandmother also said was, _, I'd be ASHAMED! That cracked me up

I have noticed that Andy uses the words [I Tell You the Truth] very often when he is making a point.  I don't want to start a religious discussion here, but I am just wondering if perhaps Allan or Paul or someone else who has insight into the writers of TAGS if this was done intentionally

At church today we celebrated Good Shepherd Sunday. At our bible study we discussed the importance of Jesus saying I tell you the truth, and how he would begin many of his teachings with those words. Well, I came home and watched the episode Andy the Horse Trader and I counted three times
