Jacob,
Thanks for the great perspective from the 60s-70s. It reminds me of the photos
when Andy would re-visit Mt Airy, and how the town was then.
That simple 8x10 at the bus station was so succinct that it says it all. A
simple town with little pretense and a 'town notable' at the bus
Please settle a difference of opinion with me and my 'Goober'. Is the Macon
bus going to Macon or is 'Macon' the name of the bus? Elizabeth in Georgia
- but not Macon

Boy Dan , if you only knew. If you only knew. There is a bus stop just
two blocks down the street from our house. I already put out a notice to
watch for a guy getting off the bus in Oh Clare who is carrying a shotgun.
I read your post very carefully. Every period and every misspelled word
Something I've wondered about for a long time is the frequency of bus arrivals
and departures in Mayberry:
Ken Anderson
I remember back in the 60's when I lived in a small town of less then 3,000
population I worked in Peoria Illinois
25 miles south from where I lived. The Peoria Lines Bus
Something that I have wondered about for a long time is the frequency of
bus arrivals and departures in Mayberry. I have often thought it is
strange that a bus would make daily stops at a small town that was off the
main highway. When I was growing up in the 60's the buses would only stop
No Ken Anderson at Mayberry Days again. Somebody ought to send Rance Howard
in the Macon Bus to fetch him here. Things are pretty cheap in Mayberry,
Ken!!!

I am not 100 % possitive but I think the Bus Bobby Fleet used was a
Checker. This Comapany also made taxi cabs used in NY for years.
Any other suggestions ?

Mayberry does indeed have a bus station, but we never see it. In Andy and
Opie, Housekeepers, after they finish messing up the house on purpose, Andy
says to Opie We'd better get on down to the bus station, Aunt Bee's about due
in.
I've always thought in strange that in The New Housekeeper
TAGS fans,
I had to throw in another two cents on the bus stop thing. I live in Dumas,
Texas, (pop. 15,000) and we get several buses through a day from at least two
different carriers. We don't have a bus station, either. You buy your ticket
at a place that does drug tests and you board
I always assumed that folks bought a ticket from the drugstore right behind
where the bus stopped: Franklin's Pharmacy I believe it said. Passengers
could also probably ask the driver to wait a minute if they wanted to hop
off for a quick purchase or restroom break too. Maybe Sarah arranged
Now here is one for all of you trained noticers. I observed quite a few people
getting on and off the bus in Mayberry (Ellen Brown, Dud Wash, O'Malley, even
Aunt Bee), but I never did see any bus station. Our hometown was about the
same size of Mayberry (in the final show there is a sign
actuallly those were made, I've even seen a few of them out here.
Lotta hippies have em by now in many places I spect.
another one I saw was on the movie The Apostle
