Laughing Out Loud
Last night I was thinking about a scene in TAGS and caught myself laughing out loud at it. It was the scene in the episode "Eat Your Heart Out" where Helen and Andy go into the Mayberry diner and order pie. When Flora brings out the pie, she throws a chopped up terrible looking piece of pie at Helen and starts to flirt with Andy.Whenever I think about that scene, it makes me laugh. Got me to thinking, what scene do you envision whenever you need a good chuckle? laughing on the inside
At work, I supervise a dozen or so fine young folks in their early 20s. Yesterday's weekly meeting was a treat for me, when they spent several minutes unknowingly re-enacting the looks spidery to me scene from Sermon for Today. They were going on about how many spiders probably live under there and how a particular fella just needed to go ahead and get under there. Then they launched into a discussion of spider bites! It was all I could do not to refer to the show, but I'm sure they would have no idea what I was talking about. They already think I'm an old lady : ) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Aunt Bee laughing
Aunt Bee enjoys a good laugh in The Rumor, when Barney tells her he dropped a filing cabinet drawer in an attempt to keep Andy busy at the courthouse. Why J through Z would all be in one drawer of a four-drawer cabinet, and the TOPMOST drawer to boot, is a mystery. Probably the only time she really breaks up laughing, to the point that she can barely speak, comes near the end of Howard the Comedian. She is telling a story about the time she was down in the cellar when the minister stopped by. Why this is supposed to be hilariously funny, I do not know, unless maybe the good folks of Mayberry routinely keep liquor in their cellars. Anybody have another explanation? laughing
I always remember Andy laughing out of character (you can tell as his expression as Sheriff Taylor changes) as he and Barn were trying to pull Ernest T. thru the door out of Mrs. Wiley's home; Ernest T. was clinging to the doorframe and making it very difficult and I think the humor of it just overcame him. Another time was in Howard's new decor when he punches Ange in the shoulder while watching Helen and Goober dancing; Andy's laugh and smile are his own that time too.I hesitate to mention this one of Aunt Bee laughing as it was at someone else's expense, which was uncharacteristic of her; seems Barn made a rude remark about someone passing by the courthouse and she laughed along with him. Andy laughing
Larry, I remember Ange laughing out of character and as himself (you can tell cuz the smile is wider and deeper and genuine chuckling is detected) twice and that is what is most memorable to me. Once was as he and Barn are trying to drag Ernest T. out of Mrs. Wiley's party and he is clinging to the doorframe. The other is when Goober slaps him on the shoulder while Helen is cutting a rug with Emmett at Howard's soiree! I get the feeling both moments were not scripted and truly surprised Andy so it's that much more comical, IMHO. Barney laughing
Cheri, Regarding Don Knotts putting his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing, I remember him doing it in the Merchant of Mayberry episode when Andy is pickin' at Old Ben Weaver. I noticed it, too, and I remember thinking how fun it must have been to work in a place like the TAGS set. I think Don said something to that effect; about how he looked forward to coming to work every day and that it didn't seem like work because they all had such a good time. --Aunt Bee in Ohio - You rock. Laughing in Mayberry
There are scenes in TAGS when the actors are holding back on laughing as a part of the script. One that comes to mind is the Bert Miller episode when Andy and Barney are getting their digs in on ol Ben Weaver. Barney in particular is trying to hold back but its in the script...(or so I think) But its well known there were plenty of times when the actors weren't supposed to laugh but couldn't help it and had to do re-takes to keep it straighteven then you can occasionally see near break ups on screen. One such is Andy in Big House and Barney has launched into his speech to the prisoners about how it is here at the Rock. Gomer is wide eyed watching Barney while Andy is leaning on the court room/jail room divider with his back to Barn and if you watch carefully, you can see Andy is laughing. But here is one where I can never hold back myself.its in the episode The Rumor and everyone has gathered at the Taylor home for a suprise party and Gomer volunteers to be lookout and goes outside where is to do his hoot-owl when he sees the squad car pull up. But Gomer being Gome takes a sandwich along and is in the middle of a mouthful when he sees the car and trys to do the hoot and can't get anything out. Jim Nabors played that so beautifully. I literally laughed myself into a coughing spell the other night watching it on DVD. Its good to laugh. Its good to be from Mayberry. Dennis Boy Girraffes Are [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Going green? re: Doug's Tune-Briscoe laughing
Karen I watched the clip of Doug's Tune again and I think you are right-it DOES look like Briscoe is trying not to laugh. I have seen that episode a zillion times and never noticed that before. Also, whilst we're on the subject of Doug's Tune.I recently saw the episode The Darlings Are Coming and when the whole family was in the hotel room rehearsing for Charlene's wedding, Briscoe suggested that they play Slimy River Bottom. And lo and behold, they started to play Doug's Tune. I guess what I'm wondering is, which one is the real name of the song? Does anyone know the answer to this one? Thanks and Mayberry says happy motoring!! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
