[Weblate] Re: GitHub discussions

2020-10-29 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Hello

I see there was no feedback here and there are some discussion on the
forum, so it's probably not that bad move :-).

Let's move to other step - would anybody mind if the mailing list would
be closed?

[Weblate] GitHub discussions

2020-10-14 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Hello

I've received several times a feedback, that mailing list is not a
preferred way to communicate these days. I always postponed that as I
didn't want to spend time and effort on setting up something for web
based discussions. GitHub is supporting discussions forums now (in
beta), so I've decided to give it a try as the setup was matter of
single click :-).

You can find the discussion forum at:

https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/discussions

We're not discontinuing the mailing list yet and I'm looking to hear
your feedback.

The translation-finder gives you a file mask, where you can expect the
language part of the filename.

Weblate uses heuristics based on the language-data[1] database, but it
won't cover all the above cases (it will detect based on the language
name, but not the misspelled or localized language names).

Persuade people to use sane naming for the files ;-).

In case of Gettext Weblate uses whatever is provided in the PO file. There is
currently none project on Hosted Weblate using the plural form you mention,
check <https://hosted.weblate.org/languages/uk/#information>.

I can change the plural form for this translation if you wish, all plurals
will have to be redone though.

See our documentation:

2020-07-09 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Yaron, can you be more specific? OsmAnd is using different file format
which doesn't suffer with this issue (simply because it doesn't support
keys nesting).

[Weblate] Re: Certain tanslation keys keep getting reverted to previous wrong ones

2020-06-18 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Hi
There is really no difference in this, if you choose "JSON nested
structure file", the key is parsed and JSON structure generated based
on that. If you use "JSON file" no parsing happens and the keys can be
formatted anyhow.
In YAML it is less likely to hit the error as that uses -> to separate
parts instead of . used in JSON.
See

The Weblate check for this case is already fixed, see

Anyway bug in Weblate should not be reason to use or not some of the variants.

Thats why there is msgmerge and that way to works for flags extracted
from the source code - xgettext generates POT with the flags and
msgmerge injects them into the PO files. The POT file doesn't have to
be present in the repo (and in many cases it is not as it's a generated
file).

No, the POT files is not parsed at all - with bilingual files, you have
all information the translation file (PO in this case). The POT file is
solely used when creating new translations.

If you have inconsistencies between PO and POT, how should Weblate
determine which of these is correct?

Yes, msgmerge does remove unknown flags. On he other side, if you
specify flags in the PO files, the msgmerge will remove them in case
they are not present in the POT file.

[Weblate] Re: Weblate for open source projects still active?

2020-06-03 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Hi
Getting the license information is not the bottleneck. The problem is
that we're configuring the projects instead of letting people configure
them and then ask for approval. This is something we need to implement
soon to be able to deal with increased interest in using Weblate.

Hi
Yes it is. Unfortunately we have huge backlog of requests and are slow
in processing them. What we really need is to automate most of that
workflow to get rid of the manual steps needed from our side.

The slug does not match the one marked for deletion!

## Comment

I don't think that "identifying part of the URL" is easier to understand than
"slug". There was quite a lot of confusion on this confirmation in past -
people tried to type in visible name instead of slug, used only component name
instead of project/component and so on... I've added screenshot to this string
to show where it is used (the actual error message is not visible, but it
shows the context well).

I think this is supposed to work, but the flag is supposed to be in the
PO files, the POT file is only used when creating new translations. The
tricky thing is that msgmerge used to remove flags it doesn't know...

That is just an error message from Git what happened on Weblate side,
you would have attempt the rebase on your clone to get the same state.

You need to configure wlc first, see

The wlc needs an API key which you can get from your profile.
Alternatively, you can do the commit or lock operations from the web
without invoking wlc.

Those are coming from django-rest-framework (at least "Şifre"). The
problem is that Weblate loads locales in wrong order and these take
precedence over the ones shipped with Weblate.

This should be fixed in
https://github.com/WeblateOrg/weblate/commit/61073d5fd71673930e206dc69e13f261c4ff0d43

It does checkout whole repo as it needs full working copy to be able to
fetch and push changes (not that it matters, if you care for security
reasons, it doesn't matter what is checked out, but what Weblate can
access).

The further access to Weblate cloned Git repository can be controlled
by permissions in Weblate or completely blocked by disabling Git
exporter (as already mention by Slávek).

You can reduce the scope by using git submodule for translations only.

There are various options of exposting just the service you want and
keeping midex environment:

1. Run Weblate inside your network and make the https port available
outside.

2. Run Weblate outside your network and let it access GitLab by ssh.

You probably want to use method=replace on the when updating, the
files, but that's probably not the cause. Probably the user doesn't
have permission to upload the template file? In case you are using
built in groups on the project, he needs to be member of Template
group.

Best regards

The POT files do not automatically trigger PO files updates. The reason
is that many projects do this already and use some customized workflow
which such automation would break. In case you want it, you have to
install msgmerge addon, see
https://docs.weblate.org/en/latest/admin/addons.html#update-po-files-to-match-pot-msgmerge

You need to screen an apostrophe with another one.

## Comment

The technical meaning is that number of apostrophes has to be even.

You can't use single apostrophe in the string: `It's wrong` vs `It''s correct`
(but also `It is 'correct'`)

True, it was added to the docs recently after I did some bigger
migrations myself and figured out that the JSON based approach really
doesn't scale well.

Django is quite effective in dumping JSON, but it is horrible in
loading it back as it first builds everything in the memory and then
pushes it to the database.

It's quite likely that Weblate will have native Markdown support soon
(see other thread), so maybe the best approach is to wait for it :-).

I'm using po4a for some documents localization and it works reasonably
well (it's used on

I know projects translating Sphinx or Publican based docs in Weblate:

No experience with that, do you know how it stores the translations? I
hope they did choose some standard format for that and in that case it
would be easy to use with Weblate :-).

That's coming from django-zxcvbn-password, but we should probably have

The notifications should be sent only on your languages (not even for
secondary ones). But it turns out that the condition for language
filtering was inversed, so it didn't properly apply. I've fixed it

Avoid having translation files for both plain language code and code with
default country (for example de and de_DE).

## Comment

Weblate is not really a place to enforce such policy. For example with
Gettext, you want to use only language codes in most cases.

[Weblate] Re: ERROR (EXTERNAL IP): Invalid HTTP_HOST header

2020-01-16 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Hi

Something (maybe some bot?) is accessing your installation on
https://18.200.215.178/ instead of using actual hostname.

Actually the error tells you what to do: You may need to add
'18.200.215.178' to ALLOWED_HOSTS.

Or completely disable this filtering by setting ALLOWED_HOSTS=["*"] in
the settings.

You can just register on https://hosted.weblate.org/ and import your
projects there. In case you want a dedicated instance, please write to
sa...@weblate.org with information on desired plan and we will get this
sorted out. In this case we can also import data from your existing
installation.

There is no function to resend the invitation, however the account is
created, so you have two option:

- tell people to use password reset feature to get access to their
account

- remove accounts and invite the users again

[Weblate] Re: Support for MySQL in Weblate 3.9

2019-10-27 Thread Michal Čihař via Weblate
Hello

Yes, MySQL is supported in the 3.x series, support for it will be
dropped in 4.0 currently expected in April 2020. See also post on our
website:

https://weblate.org/news/archive/why-already-care-about-weblate-40-now/

It was announced early to give everybody time to plan migration. The
documentation just doesn't recommend installation on MySQL, because at
this point it doesn't make much sense to install using MySQL.

Best regards

Translators: Language name, ISO code: otk

## Comment

I was told by person translating into this language that Köktürk/Kokturk is
the right name. It's Old Turkic written in Köktürk script. Naming and iso
codes are usually tricky for mostly dead languages, so I just followed his
advice.

I'll change the page layout a bit and make it just title "Licenses for

There will be separate permission for that on 3.9 release. You can also
utilize Billing module to add allow users creating certain amount of
projects.

See docs:
