Re: [libreoffice-website] Re: Cleaning of the wiki and language communities
Hi, 2013/12/31 Robinson Tryon bishop.robin...@gmail.com It might be a good time for us to revisit the pages that have more 'common' content on them, for example: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/DE/Bugzilla https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/DE/Download_mit_zsync https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/FR/Evaluation_of_CMS_Platforms https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/FR/TDF/Membership In some cases, it's possible that these pages just pre-date the creation of pages on these topics in English. In that respect, we might just need to have a wiki party to bring this content back together and/or create English versions of small articles. In the last days I have looked at some pages in doubt. It is not always easy to recognize if the content is in foreign language. I was just insulted by an esparanto contributor as I moved a page about eo-extensions from EO to https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Extensions/eo although it was about specialties around esperanto. He could be convinced to expand his page with some translation from the en page. The zsync page mentioned above is also such an example. It deals only with the german CD/DVD distribution (LibreOfficeBox) In my opinion we should keep the number of pages under the language namespaces as low as possible. It is easier to find things if they are in the multilangual structure. [..] I also came across some event pages: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/DE/CeBIT2012 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/DE/CeBIT2013 In general, I'd suggest we create all of our event pages under https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Events// ...and I'd suggest we have at least a stub-page in English with dates, location, etc. The CeBIT pages are a good test case, because their purpose is Coordination (in German). In that case, I think the English base-page could say something like For more details (in German), see [[Events/2014/CeBIT/de]]. A good solution. But now that the idea seems abandoned, we will take care to separate completely the page we adapt. Unfortunately, it's more difficult to keep the page up to date with the original, but that's ok. [libreoffice-website] Libreoffice is also available in 'YOUR LANGUAGE'
Hi, If you have ever gone to wordpress.org, you have seen a very useful language selection feature. Whenever your browser declares support of languages other than English, then you will see a tiny prompt that says: *Wordpress is also available in 'YOUR LANGUAGE'.* I think it is a good idea to have something like that in the main pages of www.libreoffice.org. It will help people to find out Libreoffice also speaks in their language! Re: [libreoffice-website] server outage?
OK it is working now. Must have been something going wrong with the connection from USA to Europe. I started out fine, then it went along for a bit OK, then it started to go down in upload speed. Withing minutes there was almost no uploading going on. Then nothing. I am using rsync -aP so there is some info on bandwidth but I use a desktop utility [gkrellm] and have it show the desktop's eth0 bandwidth. When it got down to under 1K for a few minutes, and then 0K, I knew something was wrong. I even restarted my cable-modem and Ubuntu desktop before I retried the upload. No good. That is when I sent the email. Of course, it is a 3.7GB .iso file for the NA-DVD 4.1.4 that I am uploading. After being sick for most of the month and in hospital[s] for a bit of that, plus waiting for the 4.1.4 portable version[s] to be on the Portable page, I finally was able to finish the .iso file. With my upload bandwidth, it can take 4 to 6 hours to upload. Sometime before Spring, my bandwidth will be reduced since the special pricing package will be over and I cannot afford the higher bandwidth. At that point, it will take about 10 to 12 hours to upload, if all thing go well. Does it mean I need to create a Virtual Page or how would this special page fit within SilverStripe? No. currently is uses a dedicated NabblePage page type: https://github.com/tdf/cms-code/blob/master/mysite/code/NabblePage.php (and that in turn then uses the NabblePage.ss template) The pagetype adds a new database-field that stores the Forum (aka mailnglist) ID that should be displayed. and adds that to the backend. Note that the struture of the backend has changed (no more various tabs - so for applying that to the newdesign page, the function has to be adjusted to add the form-field to the expected place). ciao Christian -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: website+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/website/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
