Well, as the basis is a background image - it's not really feasible.

Hm, okay. Then let's leave it as is for the moment.

If html as opposed to an image is OK, then I could add a corresponding
special URL
(the css is here:

I have no clue. :-) Can you try in the wiki? Maybe /MediaWiki:Sitenotice
would be a good are to add id to easily. If the progress meter does not
work, a static page would also be ok.

Sorry, but from your experience? What experience do you have other

Photoshuffler as seen on quite a bit of pages is javascript, the

Don't say that silverstripe doesn't support javascript from your

The text on the banner should actually read:

The challenge: 50 thousand euros needed!

As stated in Wikipedia (there is a linked official document, but I
didn't have the time to read it):

For European Union legislation, the spelling of the words for the
currency is prescribed for each language; in the English-language
version of European Union legislation the forms euro and cent are
used invariantly in the singular and plural, even though this departs
from usual English practice for currencies.

So I stayed with euro.

I'm not quite sure if the text is meant as slogan (and thus Needed had
to be capitalized), but I changed the capitalization to normal text.

For 50 Thousand - 50 thousand: This reduces the visual impact to
just an information, so I changed it to 50 000.

Do you think this is ok?

PS: I'll come back later to the discussion about which banner to use
(Christoph's, my new one, any other). For the meantime we should link
what we have. The present banner is not worse than no banner at all...

So If Florian can provide the current amount of donations, then the

seconds.

 Did you empty your cache?

Shame on me, forced refresh did work.

 - 33 days left is the largest text inside the banner. I'd like to see it
reduced in size (1.2em), regular font and (more or less) centered under the
 text above it.

Done.

 - The color of the meter should not use the LibOGreen to be more prominent
in the entire (green based) design. As the meter is higher than my original
proposal, it is too near to the text above.

Also done, reduced the size and changed the colors.

 - A smaller meter will not have room for the sum and percentage.

I nevertheless did leave it in there.

I think we should use your banner without any further discussion right
now. It will do the job fine.

As regards the text, I'd recommend taking in from the mother-tongue

The challenge: 50 thousand euros needed!

But that's up to you. The most important thing is we need to do this
*now* and can refine your banner later if people see the need...

I agree - for the point of doing it now.

But this doesn't mean that Christoph's proposal has to be put aside.
His concerns are valid, and if we want to have the best solution at the
end, they should be respected.

I don't know if we're going to integrate his elements in my proposal or
mine in his draft - we need to discuss and decide the best way.

As the banner is active now, we have enough time.

As regards the text, I'd recommend taking in from the mother-tongue
speaker, me, and just put what I suggested:

The challenge: 50 thousand euros needed!

Without taking into account that other native speaker (at the European
Authorities) decided differently?

http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/publications/publication6336_en.pdf

1 euro 100 euro
1 cent 100 cent
(note: This spelling without an “s” may be seen as departing from usual
English practice for currencies.)

I don't think that in this case American English is the only valid solution.

But perhaps we can agree on:

The challenge: EUR 50 000 needed!

(I'd rather like to put The challenge: € 50 000 needed!, but the
official abbreviation is EUR)

What do you think?

There are two options:

a) localize the image

I updated the SVG source in the wiki:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/cgi_img_auth.php/7/78/Banner_600x60.svg

So everybody should be able to replace the English text with the native
language.

If someone provides me with the respective *short* texts in other
languages I could create the images too.

b) replace all the text in the banner with HTML (in proper size, color
and font)

This would mean more work on the HTML/css side, but localization would
be much easier.

If someone is able to do this work, I provide the background image
without any text:

But please be aware, that this banner is likely to be modified during

The banner should stand out of the general green based color of the
site, so the visitor is attracted by the banner.

The red color has been added during our discussion here on the list (in

Re: [libreoffice-website] donation barometer

2011-02-15 Thread Matt Sturgeon
Update, Christian has added the banner to the pumbaa site
http://pumbaa.documentfoundation.org:7780

He also made a few changes (I think to integrate with SilverStripe),
for those interested I have quoted his email below (since it wasn't
CC'd to the list).

On 15 February 2011 21:14, Christian Lohmaier
lohmaier+ooofut...@googlemail.com wrote:
 Hi Matt,

The donations banner is ready for implimentation.

Added it (for testing layout, etc, thus only static version for a
 start) to http://pumbaa.documentfoundation.org:7780

 For reference:
 templates/Includes/Banner.ss
 % control Banner %
 % require themedCSS(banner) %
 !--donation meter begin--
 a class=banner1 href=http://challenge.documentfoundation.org;
title=Go to the donations page to find out more
  div id=banner1
  p id=marker-text$Metertext/p
  div id=marker1
   div id=marker2 style=width:{$Meterwidth}px;/div
  /div
  h2 id=countdown$Bannertext/h2
  /div
 /a
 !--donation meter end--
 % end_control %

 corresponding php
function Banner() {
$vars = new DataObjectSet();
...your logic goes here - note that I just hardcoded values, your
 logic isn't active yet...
$vars-push(new ArrayData(array(
Metertext  = $amounttext,
Meterwidth = $barwidth,
Bannertext = $daysleft)));
return $vars;
}

And actually using it by adding it to the Page.ss template:
 div id=TopHeader
  a id=Logo href=% control Page(/) %$Link title=%
 sprintf(_t('Navigation.GOTOPAGE','Go to the %s page'),$Title.XML)
 %% end_control %/a
  p id=HeaderTagLine$SiteConfig.Tagline/p
  % include Banner %
 /div

I.e. the Banner.ss gets included, that calls the Banner function of
the controller (the php) and puts in the values.

Also don't forget to link the CSS stylesheet, and include(); the PHP script

Oh, and upload the images - and correct any paths (URL/URI's) in any
 of the text ofcourse

Yes, those didn't match :-) - I don't include the css here, as apart
 from the image-fixes, I only added p#HeaderTagLine {display:none;}
 (instead of omitting it.

 ciao
 Christian

2011-02-14 Thread Bernhard Dippold

Hi Matt, *

Matt Sturgeon schrieb:

Putting it in the banner would be easy, but I don't know how you'd want it
to look.

If possible, exactly like the one I created for the banner:
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/cgi_img_auth.php/c/c8/Website_banner_468x60.png

size: 324x9 px (without border)
color: #f5ce53
border color: #622502
border width: 1 px

color sum already reached: #a33e03
border color: #622502
border width: 1 px

I don't think we need any percentage on the banner - this might be
necessary, if we place a more detailed barometer on the page linked from
the banner.

For the countdown we should use a fixed font - perhaps a web font,
because Vegur will probably not be available for every visitor's browser.

The countdown should contain the full line Only xx days left with

Only xx days bold in LibO green (#18a303), left! in regular and black.

Fine positioning would be necessary to get the same impression as with
the pure image.

Do you think, this is possible?

Best regards

Bernhard

Therefore I tried to provide you with the necessary basic informations

Both should be added in front of the banner (I added the rest of the

If barometer and countdown are positioned in the exact position, the

Ok, most of the script is finnished.

It is based on http://green-beast.com/experiments/mix_donations_gauge.php
- which is Copyright © May 2006-2011 Mike Cherim. Some rights
reserved. The original files include a header requesting Attribute
to: a href=http://green-beast.com/;Mike Cherim/a, I'll leave it
to you guys to decide if the file is re-invented enough to justify the
attribution, and if not, where to place the link.

The image (from scratch work) must stay at a fixed height (unless
editing the script), but the width may vary. I still have to complete
the image by adding marks for basic %'s.

The colour scheme is LibreOffice/Document Foundation branded -
utilising the greens on
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Marketing/Branding#Color_Table.

I've probably forgotten to mention something important, but have a
look at the code - If you don't like it I'll just knock up something
really simple from scratch.

A zip archive can be downloaded from here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b55h54f/n/donation-meter.zip

The image (from scratch work) must stay at a fixed height (unless

I've probably forgotten to mention something important, but have a

Oh, don't think so complicated. The following won't work in IE6, but
you could just use a mask image, with transparent scale, and just
use a colored background that will shine through.

Both are plain and can easily be achieved.

 Attached is the source,

Nope, no attachments on this list, they are stripped...

But for creating a progressbar, one can just use plain css (well, of
course depends at what time the values are read)

Are we expecting horizontal or vertical?

Where should it be aligned?

Image or colour fill?

What kind of overlay scale image?

Thanks

I personally don't like the thermometer based meters, I'd rather hope
that branding/design comes up with a nice graphic to fill with a

I'd then rather use an plain animated one/colored bar one like for
 example this one:

Re: [libreoffice-website] donation barometer

Ok, I've been working on some markup, and an image for the meter.

Here is a screenshot:

Horizontal

The script isn't finished yet, but the basics of the markup are (it's
just text and text styling left - oh, and I'm just working on adding a
scale gauge to the meter).

Re: [libreoffice-website] donation barometer

2011-02-12 Thread Matt Sturgeon
Ok, I think I just finished the markup (except text content and
formatting, and some colours - which I don't think is my
responsibility), and I have uploaded an updated screenshot here:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b562642/n/donations-v3-screenshot.png

I will now work on finishing the PHP, and integrating it into the markup.

Re: [libreoffice-website] donation barometer

2011-02-11 Thread Matt Sturgeon
Well, the first example must be rendered by a server-side script or
something (or just be a approx image, like a network signal icon).

The second is more interesting... It's a background image, and a meter
image. the meter image's size is ajusted by a JavaScript, creating a
variably sized image.

Attached is the source, but modified to be one file (the relevant CSS
and JavaScript is embedded). My comments are in English, whilst the
original comments appear (to me at least) to be German.

 Hello,

for the Foundation fundraising, I'd also have one page with a donation
 barometer, see the examples at

 and
 http://www.labs.orangepointsolutions.com/barometer/

Is there an easy way of automatically generating such an image, e.g. via a
script, according to the current donation level?

 Thanks,
 Florian
