Enhacement request. Please allow renaming of global groups. The only way of
doing it right now is by removing all permissions of the group and recreating
it under a new name, having later to move all users from one group to the

XML compliance is a great idea, but it should have been decided right from the
beginning. Here we have a major regression that affects thousands of pages, I
think it should be fixed asap; we do not have time to organize a debate on XML
compliance.

I suggest that for now, we go for your first suggestion (add "0-9"). If it
later turns out that we need to comply with XML syntax, we will have to fix
the wikitext of thousands of pages simultaneously, and educate users about the
new syntax; a pretty heavy process, since Wikisource users have been using this
syntax for years.

kshwiki uses "_" (underscore) as a character denoting that there certainly is
no audible pause between two words as opposed to " " (space) which may
represent an audible pause, or not. There are cases where not using "_" creates
gross ambiguities. Otherwise, authors are usually lazy and don't use it.

Severity changed to blocker as most of pages in pl.wikisource are jpegs not

fixed on the servers. Quick workaround is [1] but, obviously, it is not the
right solution.

[Bug 13619] Add non-breaking spaces in additional places automatically

2011-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Purodha Blissenbach  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||bugzilla.wikime...@publi.pu
   ||rodha.net

--- Comment #22 from Purodha Blissenbach
2011-02-19 12:03:45 UTC ---
For German and many related languages, the "digit space letter" rule would be
wrong too often, I believe.
Few examples translated to English, using "_" to represent the nonbreaking
space:

1) word space digit rules:
  the year 1960 and  ==> year_1960 and
  a class 23354 consumer good ==> a class_23354 consumer good
  laid down in ISO 4711 and not in ==> in ISO_4711 and
  an ASA 22 film ==> an ASA_22 film
  this is in paragraph 16 of the law on ==> in paragraph_16 of
  but article 3 in the constitution ==> but article_3 in
  king Henry 8 did ==> king Henry_8 did

2) more complex:
  the years 1970 and 71 ==> years 1970_and_71
  is 17 and a half miles from home ==> is 17_and_a_half_miles from home
  was 18 miles and three eighth until ==> was 18_miles and three_eighth until
  my 22 years old sister ==> my 22_years_old sister
  took 23 years until ==> took 22_years until

I doubt, that this can be had in a language independent way. We still would
have not so few false positives, such as:

  found the article 19 feet behind the
  went in that year 1999 soldiers to
  according to ISO 1234 people in Spain

(Note that, English word order and comma rules make English much less prone to
some of those)

Currencies, and their abbreviations, can appear both in front of, and after the
figures they relate to, so we should have both a " curreny space [+-] digit "
and a " digit space currency " rule and probably tolerate " In week 17 € 1500
were spent " unless we can make a " 'week' space digit " rule eat the 17 on its
own, hiding it from the cureency rules.

Also, there are style rules like these:

  we saw 1 young man ==> saw a young man / saw one young man
  ...
  not even 7 sailors ==> not even seven sailors
  ...
  when 12 candles ==> when twelve candles
  with 13 grumps ==> with 13_grumps

So I suggest a language specific, or language group specific, kind of
treatment.

[Bug 27555] New: Please activate logo for nn:wikiquote

2011-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27555

   Summary: Please activate logo for nn:wikiquote
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
   URL: http://nn.wikiquote.org/wiki/Fil:Wiki.png
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Site logos
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: rthat...@gmail.com

Dear all,

I have uploaded and protected a custom logo for Wikiquote in Norwegian
(nynorsk), nn:
http://nn.wikiquote.org/wiki/Fil:Wiki.png

It was introduced at the project's village pump and met no objections:
http://nn.wikiquote.org/wiki/Wikiquote:Samfunnshuset#Logo

Additionally, does someone have to switch on Common.css for the stylesheet to
work? I did some trial changes months ago which don't seem to have taken
effect.

Regards,
Ranveig

This has unbalanced parentheses, but the issue you point our (division
interpreted as start of regex, string vs. not string swapped for the rest of
the input) is valid.

This one is so devious that even Douglas Crockford's JSMin falls for it :O

I'm interested. I'm also willing to port it to PHP myself if you give me the C
code and release it under a free license.

With free flow gallery, you in theory can have 200 images, so you would get a

I knew that bug already, but it seems to request the provision of a
non-uri-load function (aokomoriuta in c9: "It's just to make a helper method").
My proposal is about a feature in load.php to deliver a definable set of user
pages together as one module.

Michael Dale had similiar intentions (c5, c8):
"The important part is they have a way to transition [user scripts] into normal
named modules"
"support a simple interface or SpecialPage for defining
what page resources ( and associated messages / dependencies for thous
resources ) are globally used on a given wiki, this way their versions numbers
can be included in the start-up module definitions"

I think a separate bug should be filed for this issue.

In the summary/save area there is the "page status" link provided by
"MediaWiki:Proofreadpage page status" and converting to a wikilink breaks the
text. Other files in that area seem to be twin files of text and link, eg.
watchthis <-> watchthispage; edithelp <-> edithelppage. Would it be possible
to add the covering "MediaWiki:Proofreadpage page statuspage" so we can link
the text.

We can not perform other cases, not by Yakiv_Gluck nor by other users.
I think that it was the 1.17 deployment what resulted in [[w:ru:Nokia_5230]]

rollbacking occurred after it. So, this is probably a deployment bug, not a
FlaggedRevs bug.

Ordinary action=rollback was used:

[Bug 27535] Add support for loading wiki pages as scripts/styles in ResourceLoader

--- Comment #3 from Krinkle  2011-02-19 15:22:24 UTC ---
Changing the scope of the bug a bit.

Right now RL loads wiki pages in two places: Site-scripts
(MediaWiki:Common/skinname.js/css) and
user-scripts(User:Name/common/skinname.js/css).

We should simply make this into public functionality rather than internally for
those two modules:

/* Example */
['ext.Something'] = array(
'scripts' => 'resources/something/something.else.js',
'styles' => 'resources/something/something.else.css',

'wikistyles' => 'MediaWiki:Something-customize.css', //

[Bug 27561] New: Register modules client side

2011-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27561

   Summary: Register modules client side
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.18-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Resource Loader
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com
Depends on: 27535

See also bug 27535.

Being able to register modules on the client side will make it easier for users
to write custom scripts, for example:

register( 'myUserScript', {
'wikiscripts': ['User:Krinkle/Calender.js',
'User:Krinkle/toolboxlinks.js'],
'wikistyles': 'User:Krinkle/Calender.css',
'dependencies': ['jquery.ui.datepicker'],
'messages': ['hist', 'talkpage', 'recentchanges', 'nstab-main']
});
mw.loader.load( 'myUserScript' );

.. would make 1 http request for all of that. Although this will make existing
things easier it also opens up good possibilities regarding the localization of
scripts. Right now it is either solved by keeping objects inside the scripts
like:

'msg-clickhere' : {
'nl' : 'Klik hier',
'en': Click here'
 //etc.
}

Or an additional request to the API is made to action=query&meta=allmessages,
which brings in the extra complexity if having to wait for that to finish
(callback, fallback, errors).

[Bug 25845] Support loading wiki pages through mediaWiki.loader.load()

mw.loader.load either loads modules (combined/minified/localized) or external
links (seperate, unmodified).

I think adding support to load wiki-pages as external links is a bad idea and
ineffecient as well (since they'd be all seperate and unminified). Instead they
should be loaded as modules:

ie. mw.loader.load( ['gadget.Foobar', 'user.Foo.bar'] );

Support to allow normal wiki pages (other then MediaWiki:Common.js and
User:name/vector.js etc.) to be part of a module is bug 27535.

Support to register them from JavaScript as well is bug 27561.

Proposing to close this bug as WONTFIX.

Note that action=rollback to a flagged revision actually makes recent version

undo by action=submit requires flagging again now. Should this bug be

[Bug 27562] New: Make $wgVersion a constant

2011-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27562

   Summary: Make $wgVersion a constant
   Product: MediaWiki

Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: theevilipaddr...@hotmail.de
Blocks: 700,9968

Currently, $wgVersion is global variable from DefaultSettings.php, which means
that it's easily possible for people to modify the variable in
LocalSettings.php. I don't know if anyone ever did it, but if someone did it,
this could break quite a lot of things. Version checks with version_compare()
might be inaccurate, leading to certain functions/classes not to load or the
information on Special:Version or {{VERSION}} give wrong information about the
used software. Also, I could imagine people believing they could "update"
MediaWiki by modifying $wgVersion.

Since there doesn't appear to be a need to modify $wgVersion, neither by the
MediaWiki core, extensions or the site users, it could probably just as easily
become a constant, maybe MW_VERSION, and then be used like that. This also has
the nice side effect of getting rid of another global, which appear to be
unloved within MediaWiki developers (IMO for good reasons).

I think we have to avoid loading CSS per RL, because there are still clients
out there with no / too old / disabled javascript.
The only case for allowing this is when the CSS-pieces are needed (only) for
and request by some scripts (gadget or user script).
Any modules which contain script-independent CSS (site, user, css-only-gadgets)
should be requested by a static link-tag in the documents head.

[Bug 27544] SVG images that are invalid XML no longer rendered

summary, on wmf servers, guessMimeType returns 'application/xml' instead of
'image/svg+xml'. guess mimetype calls doGuessMimeType(), which will call
XmlTypeCheck()

$xml = new XmlTypeCheck(
'http://bug-attachment.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8170' );
var_dump( $xml->wellFormed );

shows the wmf servers as evaluating wellFormed to false. This is not correct
btw, for most of these files, since most are only invalid but are wellformed,
this is a bug in XmlTypeCheck().

Actually, on my own server it even always evaluates to false, but later parts
apparently pick up the slack.

MimeMagic::doGuessMimeType: analyzing head and tail of
/private/var/tmp/phpwMVYQ7 for magic numbers.
DjVuImage::getInfo: not a DjVu file

MimeMagic::guessMimeType: guessed mime type of /private/var/tmp/phpwMVYQ7:

MimeMagic::improveTypeFromExtension: improved mime type for .svg: image/svg+xml
File::getPropsFromPath: /private/var/tmp/phpwMVYQ7 loaded, 5266 bytes,
image/svg+xml.

Internal type detection failed, indicates that doGuessMimeType() has returned
false and detectScript() takes over and selects image/svg+xml for me, but
apparently not on the WMF installation.

I guess in 1.16 something was correcting for this issue for wmf as well, but
now no more...

[Bug 27561] Register modules client side

2011-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27561

✓  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 CC||andbe...@web.de

--- Comment #1 from ✓  2011-02-19 16:56:19 UTC ---
I don't think the registering of myUserScript is useful like that. A user
should just need to write

mw.loader.load("user.w:de..");

into his mypage/.js. The one call should register the module and load a
script which comes with all its parts (script, style, messages, dependencies).
When the parts change (e.g. another message) not every user should have to
update his userscript, just the module's creator would need to change the
definition of the used parts.

This definition may be an additional page (like a Gadget definition), a comment
at the top of the script or an entry of a special page. Also a version could be
specified, but we cant initialize RL with a whole list of user-module-versions.
For that you'd need to activate a few modules at a (long) list in the
preferences, then the few versions could be delivered.

The returned script my look like the following:

bla = {...} // initialising some variables: content of the requested scripts
//auto-generated:
mw.loader.implementuserscript("modulename",
 [dependencies], //as specified
 [css], //embedded from specified
 [messages], //expanded as specified
 function(){bla.do();} // a function to call when dependencies are met, must

);

Also we could embed the script pages into the module.script function, so we
don't need to specify the function to call.

Another implementation, like the mw.user.options, would be

mw.loader.implementuserscript("modulename",
 [css], //embedded from specified
 [messages], //expanded as specified
); //autogenerated, does not execute anything, sets state to "loaded"
//all the following is the content of the requested scripts:
mw.loader.using( [dependencies], // inline-spzified
 function(){
  //do something
  mw.loader.state("modulename", "ready"); //must be set from userscript
});

[Bug 27544] SVG images that are invalid XML no longer rendered

--- Comment #13 from Bryan Tong Minh 2011-02-19

detectMimeType uses one of the mime detection PHP extensions. I don't see any
changes between 1.16 and 1.17 that would explain the difference.

The bug is with XmlTypeCheck though. xml_parse() returns an error for both an
invalid as an unwellformed document, whereas we only want an error on an
unwellformed document.

No. The URIs in xmlns attributes are not meant to be resolved and fetched.
Often, they can be, since the "http" schema is used and people DTD at that
address. But it is only meant to serve as a unique identifier, not a resource
to be retrieved.

In practice, though, some (poorly written) validators do attempt to fetch the
resource every time.

[Bug 27562] Make $wgVersion a constant

Replacing a global scoped variable with a global scoped define doesn't really
change anything other than making it impossible for users to change.

And there is some valid reasons to change it: $wgVersion = '1.17wmf1'; ...etc
etc.

In general, I think changing it would break more stuff than it would fix, so
I'm gonna go ahead and WONTFIX this.

You're welcome! Any possibility that the global login will be compatible with

[Bug 27496] Edit screen autoscrolling

--- Comment #5 from Paine Ellsworth  2011-02-19 18:22:46 UTC

I found that it has something to do with IE8's "Compatibility View". When I
add Wikipedia.org to the list, then part of the problem stops. There is no
more jumping down to the bottom of the edit screen. However, even with the
Compatibility View on, if you click on Preview, the next time you come back to
the edit screen it has autoscrolled to the top of the section/page, and you
have to scroll back down to the line you were editing.

In addition, I use the "Simple" skin to edit, so I just checked it in the
"Vector" skin, and it makes no diff. The issue is still there. And
Compatibility View still helps, yet the screen still autoscrolls to the top of
the section/page when "Preview" is clicked.

This is helpful to force log out of renamed useraccounts, because sometimes
there are editing under the old account after the rename. Than you can say,
they should be click a link with Special:UserLogout as target and login with
the new account (not all user are able to logout with the link in the skin
