Special:Stabilization is a special page created by FlaggedRevs to manipulate
the protection settings of a page. That page has a field called Other time:.
It is an input box. When the interface is Hebrew, the default value of that box
is still in English: infinite.

I asked at translatewiki.net whether it can be localized. Raymond said that
it's complicated and requires a more thorough solution (link:
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/unlocalized_default_value_for_a_field_in_Special:Stabilization
)

(NB: This report refers to the version of FlaggedRevs which is currently
installed in the Hebrew Wikisource. I think that it is a vanilla installation
that reflects the defaults, at least as far as this page is concerned, but it
may have some modifications.)

[Bug 27629] New: List of authors

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27629

   Summary: List of authors
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15.2
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: Normal
 Component: History/Diffs
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: hofm...@aldebaran.cz

There is no independent list of authors for each article in Mediawiki. I
consider this to be a showstopper since exporting the list of authors from
history causes that:
1) also vandals and others users who added nothing into the article are listed,
and
2) external authors cannot be credited in a standard way.

Both points are severe problems which lead to unsolvable license problems when
importing stuff into Wikipedia articles and also some wikipedians refuse to
improve the article because they don't want to be listed altogether with people
who destroy their work.

The problem is very visible when exporting the articles from Mediawiki, for
example into pdf documents.

On the other hand I feel this can be fixed relatively easily.

I do believe the credits parameter for index.php[1] used to do this, but it's
disabled and undocumented apparently. Also we have no way to tell different
type of user accounts apart (for example: a vandal compared to a legitimate
account).

The list of authors should be created automatically from history but sysops (or

the other hand users should be able to add third parties if they should be

   URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parsepageid=

AssignedTo: roan.katt...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: triste...@yahoo.com

vasi...@gmail.com, soxre...@gmail.com

This URL:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parsepageid=3209758

yields a page with a snippet of html looking like this:

amp;lt;a href=amp;quot;a
href=http://toolserver.org/~geohack/geohack.php?pagename=St_James_Old_Cathedralamp;amp;amp;params=37_42_26_S_144_56_17.9_E_amp;quot;;http://toolserver.org/~geohack/geohack.php?pagename=St_James_Old_Cathedralamp;amp;amp;params=37_42_26_S_144_56_17.9_E_amp;quot;/a
class=amp;quot;external textamp;quot;
rel=amp;quot;nofollowamp;quot;amp;gt;

which winds up looking somewhat like this:

a href=a
href=http://toolserver.org/~geohack/geohack.php?pagename=St_James_Old_Cathedralparams=37_42_26_S_144_56_17.9_E_;http://toolserver.org/~geohack/geohack.php?pagename=St_James_Old_Cathedralparams=37_42_26_S_144_56_17.9_E_;/a
class=external text rel=nofollow

you can reproduce it quite easily with the url:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parsepageid=3209758

and by viewing the source on the original page helps see how the html should
look:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_James_Old_Cathedral

sorry in advance in case i've made a mistake and i'm not interpreting the html
correctly.

sorry in advance also if major is an exaggeration of the severity!

best regards and thank you for the API.

Hoi,
Please create the Wikisource for the Sanskrit language (
http://sa.wikisource.org ). Contrary to normal practice, this project has been
approved without a full localisation. The reason is that it provides important
sources to many Indian languages.

The default language will be English and, it would be great when the Narayam
extension is enabled as well.
Thanks,
 GerardM

Only one person other than the proposer commented on that poll. Are there
enough active users on the Chinese Wikinews to warrant a mailing list? Would
 it actually be used?

Chinese wikis have a rule call [[:zh:Wikipedia:共識]] means that if no one oppose
within a week, it can go on.

Chinese Wikinews mailing list is for someone who want to submit news on email
and discuss about the matter on wikinews such as some offline discussion. It
would be use. The Chinese Wikinews only have not more then 10 active users edit
on wiki.

easy = Things that should be pretty easy; recommended for newbie developers
to give a shot. :)

Not really for shell bugs.

Probably should just ask Roan nicely ;)

[Bug 27633] New: Add characters to linkTrail for Potuguese (pt and pt-br)

 Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

This is similar to 21168 (which was fixed on r57882).

In old texts from Wikisource it is also used some other characters which I
think should be added to linkTrail:
ẽ
ò
q̃
ű
ũ

For some examples of use of these characters see:

[Bug 27634] New: TOC title appears in wrong language

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27634

Summary: TOC title appears in wrong language
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.18-svn
  Platform: All
   URL: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Westermarck
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Page rendering
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: paul.copper...@gmail.com

Created attachment 8192
  -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8192
Proposed patch: Pass mParserOptions-getUserLang() to Linker::tocList()

Steps to reproduce:
* Log in
* Set your user language to sth. different than the content language.
* Make an edit to an article.
* Log out
* Note, that the toc title is shown in the language you have chosen above.

The parser cache gets corrupted, because Linker::tocList() uses wfMsgHtml for
the toc title rather than using the language from ParserOptions.

The attached patch will fix the issue by adding a $lang parameter to
Linker::tocList and using it from Parser::formatHeadings(). Note, that for
trunk this will reintroduce the parser cache fragmentation, that has been tried
to avoid by r79520 and follow-ups.

Also forgot to mention that in new version of patch, the insertion of empty
marker revisions to imported pages is now disabled, because it leads to very
fancy bugs, in particular, infinitely duplicated revisions without changes in
the case of 2-way (vice-versa?) replication between two wikis. One sees a
change, imports it, adds a newer marker revision, then other sees this revision
in export file, imports it, etc...

(In reply to comment #0)
The simplest remedy would be to register a dump filter which creates a text
file mapping article title - byte offset. If this is done during the backup
process, there is almost no resource overhead.

I can write a patch if other developers agree this would be a worthwhile
 pursuit.

I'm interested. CCing Ariel for input and assigning to you. Let's have a

[Bug 27638] New: Add a link output format to inline queries

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: Add a link output format to inline queries

Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement

Created attachment 8195
  -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8195
link format for inline queries

Hello from earthquake ravaged Christchurch!

This patch adds a new inline query output format to the core which produces a
link to the query's equivalent Special:Ask page, much the same as the “further
results” link.

Use cases are to create additional “further results” links that use different
output formats (eg calendar or event line for blogs), or to link to a query
that shows all pages with a particular property on that property — think
delicious/technorati style blog tags.

The code is pretty simple; it just copies paramaters straight into a link
object for display, using the linkformat parameter to set the actual format of
the linked-to search page.

The patch was made between 1.5.5.1 and current SVN, but I stripped any
irrelevant changes between them, especially in the messages code.

Needs a help page; I'll write one if you want to use the patch.

[Bug 24691] Upload wizard: Implement new help system

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #5 from Neil Kandalgaonkar ne...@wikimedia.org 2011-02-22
18:48:47 UTC ---
Flickr can do that because they are not in the business of making an
encyclopedia. If you're happy with your upload, that's all that matters. Flickr
is only sorta-kinda in the business of making a shared resource for the world.
Something like 2% of Flickr's images are well-tagged. Virtually all images on
Flickr are untagged or have terrible auto-numbered titles or other
characteristics that make them useless to the rest of the web.

So IMO there legitimately can be at least a few paragraphs of help, for
instance, on how to make a good title, and how to avoid common mistakes. There
are a lot of things on Commons with titles like Head shot 001.jpg and it's
impossible for software to detect this is totally useless.

Even if it was possible to summarize all the best advice in a few lines of
pop-up help, our theory was that there should be an outlet for those in the
community who want to write such guides, and there are some minority of
uploaders who want to read them.

Agreed (after IRC elucidation by brion). wfUrlEncode is only to be used for
'nice' urls in the core (ie. /wiki/Page:Name_here or

query formed links are always with urlencode and encode spaces with '+', this

--- Comment #7 from Ryan Kaldari rkald...@wikimedia.org 2011-02-22 19:11:04

Yes, but making the interface annoying to accommodate the people who want to
write a 5 volume help text doesn't seem sensible to me. The 'minefield'
interface argument is usually used when discussing an over-abundance of pop-up
menus or pop-up ads (which are both persistent). If you have lots of pop-up
menus and pop-up ads scattered across the page, it can be difficult and
annoying to get rid of them all so that you can actually see/use the page
content. Although this case is not as extreme, it's the same principle.
Persistent pop-up anything can be annoying, and since we're moving the pop-up
help to be next to the labels, the help text is probably going to be
overlapping the textareas in at least some cases. Imagine the user moving their
cursor across the page to get to the textarea. In the process they accidentally
activate the help text next to the label. The help text stays open even after
they have traversed the help icon since the bubble is overlapping the textarea.
They then try to click on the textarea, but instead just click the help bubble,
or worse, activate the help link by accident. The help bubbles then become
annoying mosquitoes that you have to swat away by temporarily moving your
cursor to another location.

Do you have any examples of situations in which we would actually need this?

Hi -- hope you are doing well down there, and that software is the only thing
that needs patching in your immediate vicinity!

I wonder how the function you propose is different from running #ask with
limit=-1. This should exactly do what you suggest: produce a further result
link without even running the query, and passing all parameters on as other
further results would do. Note that limit=0 runs the query and displays only if
there is some result at all.

About this last contrib, I've done it in hard (I don't know if it's an
english expression ;), uploading directly at this address :
http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spécial:TéléverserwpDestFile=Sémhur.svgwpForReUpload=1

This picture isn't very important : it's just a repository for my work of
wikigraphist. There are a lot of old local file in the History section. You
can see another example here :
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fichier:Sémhur2.svg. May be one of this old
versions was corrupted.

[Bug 27446] U+200B ZERO WIDTH SPACE allowed in page titles

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27446

--- Comment #2 from Brion Vibber br...@pobox.com 2011-02-22 20:34:32 UTC ---
I don't _think_ it should be legit to have this char at beginning/end of a
title, as zero-width space is meant to be used as a separator to disable
ligatures etc, and only makes sense within a span of non-whitespace characters.

In the middle of words, it may actually be required for some languages.

Correct behavior is _probably_ to strip this char from beginning/end during
title normalization, while preserving it in the middle of words. Once that's
done, a run of cleanupTitle co should pretty transparently correct existing
titles.

I would recommend double-checking the definitions and actual usage to make sure
these assumptions are correct before changing rules, however.

Hi!

I was wondering if in there will be any of these dumps in the next month for
pt.wikibooks:
* pages-meta-current.xml.bz2

The newest dump is from 2010-10-19 and all subsequent dumps have failed:

[Bug 27488] Dynamic CSS not loaded immediately

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27488

--- Comment #1 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2011-02-22 21:01:48
UTC ---
(In reply to comment #0)
 Steps:
 1. Use document.write to include JS.
 2. Use document.write (not in onload!) to create dynamic CSS.

 Example script attached.

There's no attachment.

I know what you think about document.write, but the bottom line is that it
 used
to work and it was a valid usage. If there is a workaround for that then I'm
 not aware of it.

document.write isn't necessarily evil, there are cases in which its use its
warranted. ResourceLoader itself uses it, even. However, RL will have broken
many usages of document.write that previously used to work.

Also, could you describe what happened before and what happens now?

[Bug 27452] array_map() callback error

2011-02-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27452

--- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber br...@pobox.com 2011-02-22 21:04:09 UTC ---
The PHP warning message here indicates an exception (or possibly some other
error, but I can definitely reproduce it with an exception) in the callback
function to array_map() -- this seems to happen even if the exception is
caught, which is pretty lame.

The only array_map() call here is to $this-formatItem(), so most likely
something in there or in the many things called from there had an error.

There should have been a separate log line for errors or exceptions in there,
which might make it rather easier to track down the specific issue.

Without that there may be nothing too specific to look at if nothing pops out;
if this is a frequent error rather than a one-off, consider adding some debug
logging around it, possibly a try/catch which can add logging if an exception
is indeed being thrown in there.

--- Comment #3 from Michael Dale d...@ucsc.edu 2011-02-22 21:39:44 UTC ---
This is needed for providing core functionality to module Loaders. ( There is
no way to add a dependency to a loaderScripts ). When your loader Script is
dependent on framework code, extending the startup modules is a way to express
this dependency.

You can see how its used in TimedMediaHandler extension.
