Hi - I'd be glad to help in any way I can with adding both Semantic Forms and
Semantic Drilldown; just let me know, either here or by email at
yaro...@gmail.com, what specifically you need from me. A security review for
both (though it's more relevant to Semantic Forms, which is the much bigger
extension) would be great, though I can't be the one who performs it - I would
send an email to the wikitech-l mailing list about it.

Cf bug 674 and bug 15821. I'm going to repeat part of Andrew's comment on the
latter:

We need to have a unified approach to access control, rather than just tacking
on extra hacks when we need them. At least some portion of the access control
system needs a rewrite.

On that note, cf bug 14636.

I just tried installing Semantic Media Wiki, and am encountering the same exact
issue.
MediaWiki 1.16.0
PHP 5.3.0 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.1.36-community-log
Semantic MediaWiki (version 1.5.2)

Clicking the first button in Special:SMWAdmin gives this output:
Setting up standard database configuration for SMW ...

Selected storage engine is SMWSQLStore2 (or an extension thereof)

Checking table `smw_ids` ...

 ... field smw_namespace is fine.
 ... field smw_title is fine.
 ... field smw_iw is fine.

When trying to save an entry, I get the following error:

When any IDEOGRAPHIC SPACEs (U+3000) are included in anchor of wikiLinks,
they are replaced with SPACEs (and then LOW LINEs) in URL anchors.
But in section anchors of article bodies, they are not replaced.
As a result, wikiLinks with anchor including IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE(s) are broken.

IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE in anchor should be either always normalized or always not.

Retitling. I think being able to configure run tests when /trunk/phase3 or
/trunk/extensions changes or any other set of paths would be nice. It's true,
running parser tests when somebody updated their USERINFO or something in
/trunk/tools

However, I agree with Bryan that we shouldn't make a billion special cases, so
I think this should be very general. Don't need to say unless only X Y or Z
changed, then skip it

In any case, I removed our crappy test system in r69385 (which had been broken
forever). Marking this LATER, for revival one day once someone puts a new test
system into Code Review.

Managed to overcome this issue:
For whatever reason, my mediawiki installation has three wikiuser users, under
different hosts: %, localhost and localhost.localdomain.

After granting all three of them CREATE, ALTER, DROP privileges, the script ran
to its end, and saving entries now works.

This is not a duplicate of bug 19052.

For example, a wikitext Main Page#X X will generate a link to
Main Page#X_X, however,

X X
will generate a anchor of #X X, where the space between two X is
IDEOGRAPHIC SPACE.

Regarding the security review, I note that SMW also is available in a light
variant that has reduced features but that can already be of some use. This
SMWLight extension does not support inline queries and drops some datatypes,
but it allows data collection, export, and basic retrieval. SMWLight is much
smaller in size (currently about 6000 LOC).

It might be a useful strategy to start reviewing this core component first.
There is no packaged release of SMWLight yet -- it is rather a configuration
for deploying the complete code that makes many files obsolete. If a package of
this abridged version is needed, I can provide it upon request. The fact that
SMWLight uses the same files as SMW proper also means that any reviewing effort
is also useful toward accomplishing the complete reviewing task.

Siebrand reported this too, but I have no idea why it's happening. I can't
reproduce it, and from looking at the code it should be impossible.

'editfont' is defined in $wgDefaultUserOptions , so unless your config
overwrites that var I don't see how 'editfont' could not be in the options
array for a given user.

Thanks for the info, where should this extra code be put?

- Download Xpdf source code from http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html
- Extract the sources in some folder and cd to that folder
- Follow the instructions in the included INSTALL file and make sure the whole
thing builds
- Save what I posted above (from --- xpdf/pdf... to the end, inclusive) in a
file named pdfinfo.patch in the current directory
- Execute patch -p0 pdfinfo.patch
- Optionally, apply the other patches found on the download page with patch
-p1 xpdf-3.02pl1.patch
- Build it and, optionally, install it (or just substitute your current pdfinfo
-- found with which pdfinfo -- with the new one)

Also, you mentioned to use an alternative to pdfinfo, can you suggest one?

No, that's why I patched pdfinfo... :)
And anyway, any alternative would probably require a change in MW code.

Danilo

It's not a styling issue, it's a you have mediawiki.legacy.mwsuggest and
ext.vector.simpleSearch enabled simultaneously. Normally
ext.vector.simpleSearch would disable mediawiki.legacy.mwsuggest on the client
side, in a sort of hacky and silly way, and this is clearly failing.

A better solution would be to not send both suggestion systems.

[Bug 19986] Wikis waiting to be renamed (Tracking)

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19986

Was asked to chime in with some background detail on this topic; a few items
off the top of my head that'd need poking:

* if not changing DB name, may need to trace down various things making
assumptions about dbname - key/language/subdomain
* if changing DB name, need to make sure anything using the dbname as a key for
shared data like CentralAuth is either transitioned or isn't harmed by the
change
* need to make sure interwiki keys / entries are kept or forwarded
* need to make sure hostnames forward correctly (from MW config or does this
need loving in the web server config?)
* if keeping old DB location, may need to force cache clear of everything with
full URLs etc
* if changing DB name, need to either make sure the versions of MySQL in use
support renaming databases (and confirm this doesn't have any replication
problems) or that the process of moving tables from one DB to another doesn't
explode
* if changing dbname, check also for things that key on dbname *outside* of
mediawiki itself, such as global config files, assignment of dbname -
cluster, etc

[Bug 25418] New: Add comparators for greater than and less than

2010-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25418

Summary: Add comparators for greater than and less than
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
 URL: https://www.saruman.biz/wiki/index.php/SMW_Feature_Req
uest_-_Comparators
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Semantic MediaWiki
AssignedTo: mar...@semantic-mediawiki.org
ReportedBy: bugzi...@saruman.biz

Request: please add the following new comparators: “less than” and “greater
than”

Proposal:
A] Redefine comparators and to fit their mathematical meaning: “less than”
and “greater than”
B] Add a new notation for the original comparators “less than or equal” and
“greater than or equal”. The notation itself could either be the actual
characters (Unicode 2264/Extended ASCII 243 ≤ and Unicode 2265/Extended ASCII
242 ≥ ) or their two-characterASCII approximations (= and =) or something
else. People with knowledge of code pages and MW parsers may say something
intelligent about this
C] SMW might need a parameter for backward compatibility with the original
and comparators: $smwComparatorOldBehaviour. Reason: if one already has a
wiki and it uses and , the new style alters the behaviour of existing
queries with or . Admins of these wikis could set
$smwComparatorOldBehaviour=true. This would have the effect of disabling the
new “greater than” and “less than” comparators, and the parser would treat both
and ≤ the same (“greater than or equal”), meaning the wiki could start using
≤ explicitly, eventually switching over to the “new” behaviour once all
existing queries are corrected. After setting $smwComparatorOldBehaviour=false,
SMW would start parsing as “less than” and ≤ as “less than or equal”. It can
also be argued that the parameter should be named $smwComparatorNewBehaviour,
or $smwUseGreaterThanAndLessThanComparators, etc. I propose the
$smwComparatorOldBehaviour name, so that we can use it while we need, and in
the future (e.g. in the year 2099) can declare the the parameter deprecated,
when we believe that no wiki on earth runs in the counter-intuitive Comparator
Old Behaviour mode.
D] The backward compatibility parameter should get a default value. It can be
argued that the default setting for $smwComparatorOldBehaviour should be
false, so that from now on every new wiki is always in new behaviour while we
still can accommodate admins of existing wikis (but there's an increased risk
of incorrect queries when admins of existing wikis fail to set/correct the
parameter);
true, so that correct querying for existing wikis is ensured (but there's a
great risk of new wiki's not switching to the new behaviour)
true for now, and false in a later version of SMW, to have people get used to
the idea while not forcing anything.
I personally vote for the first option, with a clear warning in the release
notes.

Background: As described in the Semantic MediaWiki online documentation, the
SMW comparators are:
and : greater than/less than or equal
!: unequal
~: «like» comparison for strings (disabled by default)
Ths does not readily allow for disjunct selects. Example: suppose property
“Foo” is of type number. Ideally, you would like to be able to select (with
“mathematical” comparators instead of SMW comparators):
a) Foo:: 10 (less than 10)
b) Foo::=10 (10 or greater)
However, since the first comparator does not exist, a strict disjunct selection
under SMW looks like this
c) Foo:: 10Foo::!10 (less than 10)
d) Foo::10 (10 or greater)
Technically this works, but the notation is counter-intuitive.

Furthermore, the fact that is “greater than or equal” and not simply “greater
than” can lead to unpleasant situations. Consider a property “maturity” with
allowed values 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 9. When selection all values in the range
1-5, you must use Maturity::9Maturity::!9 for “everything below 9”,
instead of something like Maturity::8, since 8 is (currently) not an
allowed value; the notation inside a query would yield the famous
yellow-exclamation-triangle.

Discussion in #semantic-mediawiki and/or on the wikipage above most welcome

sounds like a candidate to me.
That one did turn out to be one of the culprits, yes. The code inside the
unload handler is only needed in IE, and jQuery 1.4 is smart enough to actually
only bind the handler in IE. There was a second such occurrence in
jquery.stars.js from the ArticleAssessmentPilot extension, which I fixed in
r74267.

The fix for jquery.stars went live just now. I will migrate Wikimedia to jQuery
1.4.2 on Monday Oct 11 per bug 25419.

Why not just have the watched user's contributions appear in one's watchlist?
That would (I presume) be a simpler implementation.

[Bug 25421] New: Adding support for Article Numbers to cite core beyond ISBN and being able to subdivide it by region

2010-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25421

Summary: Adding support for Article Numbers to cite core beyond
ISBN and being able to subdivide it by region
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
 URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Cite_video_
game#Revamp_of_cite_video_games_template
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Templates
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: lord.god.jin...@gmail.com

This was specifically brought up by issues with the video game template which
uses Japanese Article Number (JAN), or should for quality articles, in almost
every article for a video game. Many of the rest (including a lot of overlap)
use Universal Product Code (UPC) and a few European Article Number (EAN).

Newer JAN and EAN are comparable and under the same division of Internal
Article Numbers (IAN), but not older ones.

Unlike ISBN, even though they are under the larger IAN umbrella, they are still
refered to by the original numbering sequence, JAN and EAN. UPC is also suppose
to be computable with this, except 12-numbers instead of 13. Furthermore,
unlike isbn these also may have more varied codes, like shorter sequences for
smaller products that cannot fit the code or specialized products like
magazines which need more info.

Generally the code would need to figure out what the country of origin is based
on the id for assigning whether it was JAN, EAN, UPC or another (see
http://www.gs1.org/barcodes/support/prefix_list for prefix info).

I would prefer to have page-watching and user-watching seperate as they are,
atleast for me, a different task. I'd be in a different frame of mind when
working through either list.

However, if there are usecases to have both mixed into 1 list (ie. is there an
advantage for having them mixed ?)

The watchlist table has to be expanded by a boolean (or rather tinyint(1))
wl_userwatch with default 0. Alternatively one could define ns: -2 as user
watchlist in the wl_namespace field.

-2 is NS_MEDIA. You shouldn't use negative namespace numbers, they're reserved
for special namespaces.

[Bug 25422] New: Set $wgDisableHardRedirects = false; on wikimediafoundation.org

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Keywords: shell
 Severity: trivial

Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: b...@mzmcbride.com

According to http://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/CommonSettings.php.txt
$wgDisableHardRedirects is set to true for all Wikimedia wikis.

This setting prevents redirects to Special pages, among other things. For
example, http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Comments doesn't redirect properly
currently.

This global setting in Wikimedia's configuration file is contrary to the
default setting for a MediaWiki install. On a fishbowl wiki like
wikimediafoundation.org, it shouldn't be an issue to set
$wgDisableHardRedirects = false;.

It probably wouldn't be an issue to do it for all private/fishbowl wikis, but
that's not as much of a concern (to me, at least).

At

repeatedly, like every two or three attempts to get the page (50% or 30% of the

We, at LinuxCabal, think that this is a severe bug. We should set an example
and follow these international standards.

If the header says XHTML 1.0 Strict, we should conform to just that.
