Now that this has been sitting inactive for nearly 5 years, is there any chance
of it being implemented?

[Bug 25000] Remove IP throttle for account creation

--- Comment #12 from mybugs.m...@gmail.com 2011-02-03 10:56:01 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #10)
Raymond likely resolved this bug with r72959.
That revision was reverted on r76339.

Nonetheless I still see the message
MediaWiki:Ratelimit-excluded-ips/pt
when I visit the MediaWiki message on Portuguese Wikibooks:
b:pt:MediaWiki:Ratelimit-excluded-ips

Why is the message not displayed in English, but is displayed other in
languages (giving false hopes to users)?

The feature will be needed in the next few weeks, but considering it was
reverted, what should we do to let a group students to create their own
accounts in the beginning of the classes?

Would we need to request something in the lines of bug 21510? If so, what kind
of information should be emailed to OTRS?

[Bug 27128] New: Mediawiki prevents you from selecting files that are not in the $wgFileExtensions array, even when $wgCheckFileExtensions is set to false

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27128

 Summary: Mediawiki prevents you from selecting files that are
not in the $wgFileExtensions array, even when
$wgCheckFileExtensions is set to false
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.16.2
 Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows Server 2003
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: Uploading
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: joe.fow...@jdi-solutions.co.uk
CC: gpaum...@wikimedia.org, bryan.tongm...@gmail.com

Mediawiki prevents you from selecting files that are not in the
$wgFileExtensions array, even when $wgCheckFileExtensions is set to false. When
you select the file, it clears the upload file field.

Expected behaviour: When $wgCheckFileExtensions is set to false, you should be
able to select any file.

Occurs in Firefox and Chrome, but not IE.

[Bug 27131] New: Add checkbox to Special:PrefixIndex to hide the given prefix in the list items

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27131

 Summary: Add checkbox to Special:PrefixIndex to hide the
given prefix in the list items
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: wikimedia-deployment
 Platform: All
 URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Pref
ixIndexprefix=WikiProject+Australia/namespace=4
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Special pages
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mybugs.m...@gmail.com

When we want to access the full list of subpages of a given page we usually use
Special:PrefixIndex ([1], [2], [3], [4]), but currently it always displays
the fulltitle of the pages, which can make the list harder to understand. This
is particularlly true when dealing with pages which are mostly structured as
subpages of some other page, as currently happens on Wikibooks projects ([3],
[4]), since we don't have a proper way to define what is a book (bug 15071)

It would be interesting to add a new field to the current form:

-- All pages---
Display pages with prefix: [___]
Namespace: [___] [GO]

---

like this:

-- All pages---
Display pages with prefix: [___]
| Format titles hiding prefix [___] | -- New field --
Namespace: [___] [GO]

---

The content of the second field could be (by default) equals to that o the
first field when the special page is acessed from a link like
Special:PrefixIndex/Test

One option would be to add a link which could call a jQuery function like this:

$('#mw-prefixindex-list-table td a').each(function(index) {
$(this).text( $(this).text().replace($('#nsfrom').attr('value'), ) )
});

Compare the default list from for Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/[5] with
the list displayed after that JavaScript is executed.

So that users can integrate the extension into an existing LDAP environment,
the extension should not require user creation, but should be able to add
missing objectclasses and attributes to users.

This action should be configurable as to when it occurs. Some users will want
this action to occur on first login. It would be ideal to also add an interface
for this action, as this would allow users to create accounts without having
shell or nova access.

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27138

 Summary: Additional of posixgroup to projects should be
optional
 Product: MediaWiki extensions

 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: OpenStackManager
AssignedTo: rlan...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: rlan...@gmail.com

Additional of posixgroup to projects is very useful for users wanting a fully
integrated solution, but is unwanted when a user simply wants to create
instances, and doesn't want the instances to be connected to LDAP for
authentication and authorization.

[Bug 27140] New: update.php causes Last-Modified HTTP header to be updated without any basis in fact

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27140

 Summary: update.php causes Last-Modified HTTP header to be
updated without any basis in fact
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.18-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: Database
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jida...@jidanni.org

Every time one runs update.php, there is a side effect of causing the
Last-Modified: Thu, 03 Feb 2011 00:20:37 GMT
HTTP header of Special:RecentChanges to get reset, and probably also
that of RSS feeds.

Understand that many programs e.g., WWWOFFLE, monitoring this date will
thus cause a false notification to their user, who then looks to find
nothing changed in RecentChanges.

Also notice that on high use wikis like Wikipedia, one wouldn't be aware
of the problem, but on low use wikis, one certainly will.

Don't just assume that Last-Modified should be updated without a valid reason.

I won't even get into the waste that is caused by resetting the
Last-Modified header on a RSS feed.

It's probably faster to perform your request directly in bugzilla, marked with
the shell keyword.

The code at bug 21510#c1 can be taken as reference. As you see, the parameters
used there are the project, the ip from which to lift the limit, what value to
set, and the time range in which the greater range should be used.
Things like a good rationale for that change are also appropiate ;)

--- Comment #1 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-02-03 20:34:17 UTC ---
Can not reproduce on trunk. (While once i disable $wgUseRCPatrol, which messes
with last mod header)

However, if the update script makes any edits (and those edits get included in
the RC, perhaps hidden as bot), which might happen if it deletes old messages
that are the same as the default (but that'd only be updating from a really old
version), that would obviously reset the timestamp as it should)

Understand that many programs e.g., WWWOFFLE, monitoring this date will
thus cause a false notification to their user, who then looks to find
nothing changed in RecentChanges.

The last-modified date could mean anything changed, not necessarily someone
edited. For example installing an extension (which will touch the modified time
on LocalSettings.php, and in the default config update $wgCacheEpoch) will also
reset this date. Changing your user prefs will also update this date (because
that can affect what the RC looks like). If you want to know when the last
person edited, you should use the date of when the last person edited, not the
date that page changed.

[Bug 27145] New: Fix font declarations

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27145

 Summary: Fix font declarations
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: SyntaxHighlight (GeSHi)
AssignedTo: soxre...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: er...@darcoury.nl

GeSHi is inserting redundant div style=font-family: monospace; and even
less necessary pre style=font-family: monospace; into the generated HTML.
Redundant because the inline generated CSS already contains the necessary font
declaration, and pre is already using a monospace font.

The way it is currently declared also has problems in several browsers that
cause the text to be too small (see bug 20706, for which a general fix has been
applied, but also needs to be applied here), and also interferes with sitewide
CSS (ie. common.css).

What needs to be done:
* Remove the inline, hardcoded font styling from the generated HTML (as it is
already present in the generated CSS)
* Change the default font declaration in the generated CSS to
style=font-family: monospace, 'Courier New'; (see bug 20706 for explanation;
the objective is not to prefer Courier New, but to trigger the correct
behaviour of those borwsers)

I have to agree. Roughly since Vector came I have put a font-size:120% in my
global.css for Wikimedia wikis to make them readable again.

In my setup (Safari 5 / Mac) since Vector the size of code sources is now below
the minimum for anti-aliasing which makes the code really pixelated and hard to
read (like 8 or 10px). Noticeably smaller than normal article text.

I opened a new bug because this one was in the wrong category (and could not be
changed unless closed). But to reitterate:

GeSHi is inserting redundant div style=font-family: monospace; and even

Redundant because the inline generated CSS already contains the necessary font

We won't just go turning things on private wikis without an individual request
from that private wiki.

Since it is private, we rather not change functionality of it unless they
specifically ask. Unless there is a pressing reason to do otherwise.

I actually think this bug is a great idea -- it makes sense to make this a
default configuration option for closed wikis. Where would we go to get
consensus or an official okay for such a change?

It affects MW in that sitewide CSS may be blocked, and this may be true for
other websites. I just fixed the Geshi CSS mess on en.wiki, just so I could
finally assign my own font ([[en:Mediawiki talk:Common.css#Pre-formatted (and

hack.

We can implement it in a RL'd CSS module included on GeSHi pages; I didn't mean
we should make individual wikis fix it in site CSS. It only makes sense to
push changes upstream if this is a problem which affects all uses of the GeSHi
engine, not just its use in MediaWiki; if that's not the case, we should be
doing whatever we need to at a MW level, which pretty much reduces us to
!important, unless GeSHi has a hook API (I haven't checked). What CSS needs to
be bundled in to straighten out the issues on MW?

The necessary CSS is already in the proper place (the generated CSS), which can

@Krinkle,

The code to fix the fontsize for source and syntaxhightlight (as well as
.css and .js pages) is:

div.mw-geshi div pre,
span.mw-geshi,
pre.source-css,
pre.source-javascript {
font-family: monospace, Courier New !important;
}

Putting this in nl.wiki common.css (or personal CSS) will fix the problem
(until GeSHi is fixed).

[Bug 27146] New: Regression? AJAX watch fails when $wgActionPaths used for watch, unwatch

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27146

 Summary: Regression? AJAX watch fails when $wgActionPaths used
for watch, unwatch
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.18-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Javascript
AssignedTo: d...@ucsc.edu
ReportedBy: br...@pobox.com
CC: tpars...@wikimedia.org

Tested as of r81491; relevant bit of code was last touched in r78150.

When initializing the AJAX behavior for the watch tab, it seems that current
code tries to divine the target page title from the link URL on the watch tab,
then save that title as extra data associated with the link node:

in mediawiki.action.watch.ajax.js:

var title = mw.util.getParamValue( 'title', link.href );
$link.data( 'target', title.replace( /_/g, ' ' ) );

This unfortunately fails when the target link doesn't use a query string
parameter -- mw.util.getParamValue() is unable to find it, and the next line
throws an error:

title is null
[Break On This Error] $link.data('target',title.replace(/_/g,' '));

As a result, AJAX watch fails to initialize properly, and the unhandled
exception may also halt initialization of other UI elements.

This code probably doesn't need to be trying to pull a title from the link
manually; it should probably just be using the available wgTitle.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Set some items in $wgActionPaths, say:

 $actions = array('watch', 'unwatch');
 foreach ($actions as $a) {
$wgActionPaths[$a] = $wgScriptPath/action/$a/$1;
 }

2) Set up appropriate rewrite rules or helper scripts to pass
/action/(un)?watch/Foo over to /index.php?action=blahtitle=Foo

3) Load up a page view while logged in.

[Bug 27147] New: Reflect current revision status in links within CR work flow

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Component: CodeReview

ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: innocentkil...@gmail.com, s...@reedyboy.net

Within the CodeReview workflow it'd be nice to have some reference to it's
current state (kinda like how bugzilla has the .bz_closed class on the links
and the RESOLVED FIXED in title-attribute /hover tooltip).

Having something like the following:

a class=mw-codereview-revision-status-new
href=http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/70270;
title=Special:Code/MediaWiki/70270 (reverted)r70270/a

or
span class=mw-codereview-revision-status-new title=ialex - reverted
a class=
href=http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/70270;r70270/a/span

instead of the current output:
a href=http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/70270;
title=Special:Code/MediaWiki/70270r70270/a

If more people find it helpful, including tags may be useful as well.

Rather than putting them in the init() of mediaWiki.util or on top of the
mediawiki.js file creating a plugin like jquery.mwPrototypes makes it easier
for third parties to re-use them.
This also keeps the named files clean and limited to the definition of their
modules (ie. jQuery.isEmpty is not part of the mediaWiki object, yet is defined
in mediawiki.js)

Assigning to myself, will do this together with bug 26799 probably.

(as suggested in bug 23315 comment 1)

In JavaScript gadgets can be used on any wiki and/or in any language since
wgCanonicalSpecialPageName is available. However in CSS it's not quite as easy
since there's only page-(wgPageName) which is (and should) be localized.

So that http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spezial:Beiträge would have

body class=mediawiki ltr ns--1 ns-special page-Spezial_Beiträge
special-Contributions skin-vector
instead of
body class=mediawiki ltr ns--1 ns-special page-Spezial_Beiträge skin-vector

I did some cleanup in r81509, giving most of the you-couldnt-do-much-about-it
errors an 'Internal error:' prefix and tidying up language.

A general note:

+'mwe-upwiz-api-error-file-too-large' = 'The file you submitted was too
large.',

Can this be catched before upload? Are the limits shown anywhere?

It sure can, but if the error happens afterwards (either we didn't catch a
limit properly, or the limits changed, etc) we still need to output it.

As with the various other errors, getting information will vary and may or may
not already be done elsewhere, but outputting basic error messages is a step up
from nothing. Implementing those better, if they're not already handled, should
be individually addressed in distinct bugs.

[Bug 27152] New: Using $wgRevokePermissions doesn't revoke protection permissions when the 'editprotected' permission is assigned

2011-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27152

 Summary: Using $wgRevokePermissions doesn't revoke protection
permissions when the 'editprotected' permission is
assigned
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: minor
 Priority: Normal
Component: Page protection
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: wweraw...@hotmail.com

If a user group is given the 'editprotected' right, and then a specific
protection right is revoked, the revoking doesn't work.

For example:

$wgGroupPermissions['mygroup']['editprotected'] = true;
$wgRevokePermissions['mygroup']['mylevel'] = true;

I would expect that in this case, if a page was protected to the 'mylevel'
level, then the 'mygroup' group would not be able to edit that page. The actual
outcome is that revoking the 'mylevel' right has no affect.

In addition, if the 'mygroup' group also has the 'protect' permission, they can
unprotect the page to a lower level.

For example:

$wgGroupPermissions['mygroup']['protect'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['mygroup']['editprotected'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['mygroup']['someotherlevel'] = true;
$wgRevokePermissions['mygroup']['mylevel'] = true;

I would expect that in this case, if a page was protected to the 'mylevel'
level, then the 'mygroup' group would not be able to unprotect the page. The
actual outcome is that they can unprotect it, and/or change the protection
level to 'someotherlevel', which in my case is a lower level.
