[Bug 15434] Periodical run of currently disabled special pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15434 --- Comment #108 from Nemo federicol...@tiscali.it --- asked something like that around comment 47 but it's very hard: currently not even WMF and its own changes have anything like a database stress budget. (Too long a discussion for this bug.) (In reply to comment #107) OTOH, there are some items like Special:Unwatched Pages for which the maximum of 5,000 pages makes the report silly for a wiki like English Wiktionary. Then let's try to make such pages useful. :) You have a few options: * extend unwatchedpages permission and let people use action=info on individual pages (simple config change), * file a consensual config change request to increase the number of results shown for that page (it's probably not too expensive) + a core bug to add such a configuration option, * propose some way to make that special page more useful for all wikis. You don't need a budget to reason about what's important for your wiki and why, and clearly expose your use case/proposal in new bug reports. MediaWiki has so many features that it's often extremely hard for devs to understand on their own what's really important / has a true impact on any given wiki/community (it is even for wiki regulars on wikis they don't know). If you don't document, describe and argue for the needs of your wiki, nobody will do it for you. ;-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 56433] Temporarily scale back deployment of UniversalLanguageSelector (ULS) to Wikimedia wikis
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56433 --- Comment #19 from Erik Moeller e...@wikimedia.org --- It's important to recognize that ULS provides: - UI language selection for logged in users (not for logged out users due to cache fragmentation); - input method selection for all users; - default font selection for all users (e.g. for enabling the OpenDyslexic font); - automatic WebFonts delivery for all users. It's this fourth category that seems most contentious, because font files can be very large and are often loaded unnecessarily. In the case of the Autonym font, it is even loaded to display Latin characters, overriding the default font and sometimes causing display issues. Would it be reasonable to set the font loading behavior to default-off, with a preference for logged-out users (cookie or localstorage) and logged-in users (actual preference) to enable automatic font delivery? If so, attaching EventLogging to that preference might also yield some initial data where this functionality is needed most. Are there major performance concerns with functionality other than the font delivery? If not, I would prefer an approach that focuses on that specific issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54994 --- Comment #15 from Gilles Dubuc gdu...@wikimedia.org --- We really need a sample of content in its original form to be able to reproduce this. Basically we need anyone who's affected by this to give us the file/website they've copied content from and which portion of the text they copied and pasted. [Bug 59892] Updating commit message in Gerrit resulted in new patchset with older patchset code
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59892 --- Comment #4 from christ...@quelltextlich.at --- (In reply to comment #2) it should just splice your change into the new revision if there are no conflicts. If different patch sets of a change would sit on top of each other or had to share a similar relation, then that might make sense. However, different patch sets of a change are fully unrelated. They can for example come with different parents. So automatically, silently merging in patch sets would bring in the other parents :-( Two patch sets of the same change need not even be connected in the graph of commits (e.g.: when force pushing a ref to a graph with a different, completele unconnected root). Automatically, merging in other patch sets would connect the different graphs :-( And for the issue of the bug's original description ... even if we'd automagically merge in patch sets, assume in addition to MaxSem's good patch set 20, I also uploaded a faulty patch set 20.5 after 20. If we'd automatically merge things, patch set 19, the good patch set 20, but also my faulty patch set 20.5 would get merged into patch set 21, and it would have gone live without review and have broken the site. When editing the commit message through the web UI on a page that shows patch set 19 as most recent patch set, the resulting patch set has the code of patch set 19 with the new commit message. When editing the commit message through the web UI on a page that shows patch set 20 as most recent patch set, the resulting patch set has the code of patch set 20 with the new commit message. Silently merging in other unreviewed parts of newer patch sets in behind the reviewer's back would make reviews only harder. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 15434] Periodical run of currently disabled special pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15434 --- Comment #109 from Dennis C. During dcdur...@gmail.com --- Before embarking on one of your recommended courses of action: Would it be possible for us to process the dump to get a list of unwatched pages? At Wiktionary we usually focus only on lemma entries, ie, not on inflected forms like simple English plural nouns (much more common for languages like Latin), so the actual list of what we care most about is much shorter than the list of ALL unwatched pages. I could, with help from others at Wiktionary, run some Perl scripts to create the desired listing of relevant entries if unwatched or watched is an attribute on some XML dump file. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 43967] Internal error: Could not determine if the copy succeeded.
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43967 --- Comment #9 from Gilles Dubuc gdu...@wikimedia.org --- I confirm that this is probably coming from chunked upload-specific APIs. More specifically checkStatus, which allows to check when an upload has been reassembled when the chunk API keeps replying Poll. It seems like something almost identical is also exposed to API consumers through statuskey, but UploadWizard doesn't seem to make use of it. The failure is due to the session entry for the requested filekey being missing. I will investigate further once I have shell access approved to access logs. Something I'm particularly interested in finding out is whether all the session data is missing or just the entry for the particular file we're interested in. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
