[Wikimediach-l] Contact's DB

2011-01-27 Diskussionsfäden Nico Ray
Hi all,

Quick question : do we already have a database for all contacts (press, people
asking for info, etc...) ? If not, wouldn't it be a good idea to have one, in
order to track who was contacting who, why, when ?

Obviousely, this list should be stricly restricted.

In case it already exists, please let me know : I do have 2 press contact to
add.

Thanks and regards,
Nico

Yes Nico, it has been a point discussed in a board meeting.

It's a must for communication and marketing point of view and I have
selected a tool like this:

http://www.emailbrain.com/eb/standard-edition.shtml

In addition I have already a tool written by me that I can release as
open license to be adapted for WM CH purposes.

I think it's a good idea. I've many contact. I write nothing in our wiki
because of public access.
I think that we'll must a wiki just for the member.

I don't understand how a non-profit organisation that fosters open
source ideology can spend money for something like this when even better
solutions (such as full-fledged CRM) exist as open source software for free.

Especially am I totally against putting our private data into a foreign
system we have no control over, while we could host a real CRM for free
and on our own systems.

 Thanks Ilario,
I just had a look on your emailbrain tool and it looks really perfect.
Now the question is : is it feasable for Wikimedia CH to spend 108 USD
(53.73 USD x 2) per year as per the price list on
 http://www.emailbrain.com/eb/pricing.shtml ?

How shall we proceed with this ? (i.e. in a quick mode ideally)
 Nico

 Perhaps that in 2007 www.wikimedia.ch http://www.wikimedia.ch was a
goog tool for the needs of 2007. Wikipedia has grown since 2007,
Wikimedia CH as well. Now we have contacts profesionals. We
 needprofessional tools for that.

Well, as far as I know is the last conclusion we met on the board
mailinglist is that the contents are ok but the design needs to be
renewed. Nothing else did I say in this mail.

 I'm sorry I'm not a web designer. And I
 think it's a real job. Actually I don't speak about www.wikimedia.ch
 http://www.wikimedia.ch with contacts because I think it's a not a web
 site for communication.

Well, in the page you set up a year and a half ago I can't participate
as I don't speak french. I never actually understood what it really
meant to say.

The new page you set up recently to collect the features of the new
website basically is a list of what the current website does. Plus that
we have met the consent that we basically only need a better design. So
what else should I add? I have already made my point.

What I don't understand and what upsets me is that we are now starting
the discussion all over again without making any progress. All I hear is
rant - rant - rant. And of course everything is just shit, my personal
fault etc. pp. And of course you expect me to have that all done
already, because you are ranting since more than a year now.

Actually I am okay with the website even though the design could be
better. I have offered to facilitate the process. That's all I can do.

If you don't like the website, it is on you to define that precisely and
offer improvement, instead of ranting.

If you don't see the difference between a tool for members (www.wikimedia.ch)
and a tool for communication (www.wikimedia.de or www.wikimedia.fr), I'm
sorry for you.

I have not criticized your work on the current www.wikimedia.ch. I just said
that it is not a tool for communicate and to know the association and its
projects to the public and the press.

Last point before leaving this conversation : It is important that you know
that the desire to have a website with :
* nice design
* message about free knowledge in Switzerland
* easy to browse
... it's not criticized your current work.
