[Wikimedia Kenya] Offline wikipedia
Hi, i hope this finds you all well, last week i got a call from Dr Martin Njoroge, [our contact person at Kenyatta University] requesting for the offline wikipedia that he intended to give to his students taking a masters degree most of who are teachers at high schools. I was able to make 50 copies on dvd with both the kiwix application and the offline wikipedia. On the day i was to give the students an illustration of how to install and use the kiwix application, something came up and i wasn't able to do it then. Sadly, they were going back home that evening. I was planning to come up with a text document illustrating how to install and use the kiwix app but i needed to first know if there's any available.. [preferably a video.. i've tried searching for on on youtube but the closest i got was this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnvm7uxDhMs yours, dennis munene. ___ WikimediaKE mailing list WikimediaKE@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediake

Alex, Like we had earlier agreed, we had quite a really short window of time to pull up the contest from getting Sponsors., to getting Judges, criteria etc all in less than 30days. But it seems the page redirects from wikipedia have helped us loop in volunteers and from the other Personal Volunteers i had pulled up who keep pestering me about the contest, we can synch up a quick Criteria and judging so that we get it up and running. We can synch up on a wiki or anywhere to pull this up by end of week?We can then pull in Lodewijik once we have something. Get back to me on this? Hoping you are still in Area Code 254? :-) I suggest Steve keeps the Volunteers on the Commons Page engaged through email and discussions on how/what they could help Way to go good people. Hi All! several people (see link [2] of Stephen) have indicated they want to help. Currently there are still zero uploads from Kenya, because it is not clear to people how to upload. Who is in charge for Wiki Loves Monuments Kenya (or who wants to take responsibility and get things moving)? How can I help you to get the priorities straight and get things done? What is the bottle neck? Well the priority is to get a site with full instructions on how to enter the competition. Well, I have tried making a page in commons using the [[Template:tabbar}} approach but seems I am missing out something and it did not work out. So I am looking forward with some help with that. I expected the tabs to have the navigation links to: about WLM, How to participate, Where to find monuments, lists of the monuments etc. I think the discussion page at [1] is the best to discuss of having the site up. I will take charge to get things moving if no one else has taken this up. ./Stephen. 1. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_in_Kenya Best, Lodewijk 2012/9/9 Lodewijk lodew...@effeietsanders.org Hi Stephen, the highest priority should have a clear description on the top of that page: 1) how people can participate (how to find the monuments, and how to upload) 2) what they can win (even if that prize is only a virtual one and a nomination for the international finale) 3) who will judge 4) what are the criteria I am surprised that this is still not clearly described on your page - and can now understand better why there are still no uploads for Kenya. Please let me know if we need to help in any way, or need to explain how to do something. However, the work will still lie with you. Best, Lodewijk 2012/9/9 Stephen wanjaus...@gmail.com Hi all! The plans to participate in the aforementioned subject had already started with the preparation of a planning page [1]. There have been some volunteers who have shown interest by signing up as willing to help or participate in WLM 2012 [2]. I have responded to some private E-mails from willing participants and I expect the enquiries to increase. I therefore welcome more Wikimedians to assist me with that by probably adding the email me in their commons usernames like I have done on mine. ./Stephen. 1. http://commons.wikimedia.org/**wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_** Monuments_2012_in_Kenya http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_in_Kenya 2. http://commons.wikimedia.org/**wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_** Monuments_2012_in_Kenya#Get_**involved.21 http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_in_Kenya#Get_involved.21 __**_ WikimediaKE mailing list WikimediaKE@lists.wikimedia.**org WikimediaKE@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/**mailman/listinfo/wikimediake https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediake ___ WikimediaKE mailing list WikimediaKE@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediake -- ./Stephen ___ WikimediaKE mailing list WikimediaKE@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediake ___ WikimediaKE mailing list WikimediaKE@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediake

Re: [Wikimedia Kenya] WLM 2012
Habari! Well I think the WLM site at [1] is now better than [2].The instructions on how-to participate are clear and things are a bit more organized. One more thing remains...When users click on the links in the banners to participate in WLM KE from the various Wikimedia projects, they are being taken to the Wikicommons planning page at [2] which has no leads on how-to participate. I suppose that should be changed to redirect users to the new Wikipedia site at [1], or if that is not possible then we will have to move the templates and the whole content! I prefer the redirect as it is easier. If that is not possible since it is a commons to Wikipedia situation, we can put an instruction at [2] directing users to the new Wikipedia page at [1]. What are your thoughts on this? PS: Are we still issuing some local prizes or the participants will just enter into the int'l compe? ./Stephen 1.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Nairobi 2.http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_in_Kenya On 09/12/2012 01:31 AM, Stephen wrote: Hello All! Re: [Wikimedia Kenya] WLM 2012
I set up the site on Wikipedia since there is that template {{start tab}} which can be used to create a tabbed interface for usage on portals and projects, help pages and user pages. I had looked for the equivalent on commons but with little or no success. I have also tried importing the template and it seems there was something I was not doing right plus I do not have import rights on commons. After trying all that I decided to set up the page in Wikipedia. I would also like it to stay on commons and assistance to that end is welcome. ./Stephen Open source rocks and rocks are free.
