Re: [WISPA] Lost routes...

2009-02-04 Thread Paolo Di Francesco
you could have two problems:

1) you are loosing the default routes
2) the PPPoE client is not working. I tested Ubiquiti NS5 PPPoE client
and it looks like it does not work with mikrotik AP PPPoE. So if the
Ubiquiti NS is loosing the PPPoE session, you will have the client
locked, the AP will see an hanging connection and the route could
disappear.

Not sure which one is the worst problem.

Try to upgrade to a newer mikrotik routeros and see if the OSPF improves.

If the problem is #2 then I am not sure how to solve, I did not test
latest versions of UBIQUITI, you could give it a try. I did not want to
implement mixed PPPoE because in our testing environment I saw PPPoE not
working (I cannot say who is wrong, the client or the AP, but both
mikrotik works)
Try to swap a mikrotik routeros with the UBIQUITI and see what happens.

Please let us know!

Just my 2 cents.

Generally 6GHz, 11GHz, 18GHz, and 23GHz will cost somewhere in the
range of
$3k to license depending on how you go about it. Best course of action
is
to always have the company your buying the gear from do the licensing
work... it will usually be cheaper and prevent mistakes.

Wow...$3k? Assuming $1300 in FCC fees -- that's still $1,700 for
licensing services

(NOTE TO SELF: time to end that $595 Part 101 licensing promo)

Here is a fixed graphic of the National WISP map showing the lower 48
states. I have been getting updates via email on top of what Matt sends
 from
the directory. The footprint now covers 567,315 square miles! I'm still
working out the bug that makes the circle radius on the Google Maps
 smaller
than the 10 mile radius. The land area calculations are done based on the
 10
 miles.

Help spread the word about this effort to collect data. For those who have
drawn their coverage area in Google Earth, send me that file and I can add
 it directly to the map.

it has been rock solid. Most of the time it is one particular client

to be issue with the AP. Log shows disconnect, OSPF route to client
disappears but the PPPoE session stays.

[WISPA] National Map - NEED HELP

The map is progressing and the data is coming in faster than ever. I'm
keeping up but having an issue with trying to compute the demographics. I
need to download a bunch of Census GIS data and I either get timed out or

download everything in the following directories and burn them to disk and
send them to me?

Re: [WISPA] Lost routes...

2009-02-04 Thread Scott Reed
Route goes away with the disconnect. OSPF sees the disconnect as
interface down. The question is,
why does the log show disconnect while the session remains? I am not
very familiar with PPPoE, so can't answer that one. But I am pretty sure
that is the root cause of the dropped route.

Mark McElvy wrote:
First there are only 6 clients on this AP. All are Tranzeo except one,
it has been rock solid. Most of the time it is one particular client
that I see this with but it happens with others as well. I replaced the
radio on the one client to see if it help but it did not. I believe it
to be issue with the AP. Log shows disconnect, OSPF route to client
disappears but the PPPoE session stays.

 you could have two problems:

 1) you are loosing the default routes
 2) the PPPoE client is not working. I tested Ubiquiti NS5 PPPoE client
and it looks like it does not work with mikrotik AP PPPoE. So if the
Ubiquiti NS is loosing the PPPoE session, you will have the client
locked, the AP will see an hanging connection and the route could
 disappear.

Not sure which one is the worst problem.

Try to upgrade to a newer mikrotik routeros and see if the OSPF
 improves.

 I am running 5 MT AP's, 2 are 3.x and 3 are 2.9.50, all are running

 OSPF

and PPPoE. Clients are mostly Tranzeo CPQ and SL2 with a few Ubiquity
NS2. On only ONE of the 2.9 AP's, I randomly loose the route to the
customer. The log will show a PPPoE disconnect, the route will go

 away,

but the PPPoE session will still show in the active connections

 window.

If I disconnect the active session the client will reconnect.

 Any thoughts?

Re: [WISPA] Lost routes...

2009-02-04 Thread Jim Patient
I had the issue myself with loosing default routes using OSPF. The
issue happened between 3.x routers and 2.9 routers.
When I updated all to 3.11 the problem went away just as MT told me it
would. If you look through the changelog you will find
a pile of OSPF fixes in 3.x. I am running 3.20 fireware 2.19 now and
not having any issues. I would try updating to 3.20.

Would it be easier if we send that information to you? What information are
you wanting out it? as of what year? or...if you have a program that

entering it by hand.

The map is progressing and the data is coming in faster than ever. I'm
keeping up but having an issue with trying to compute the demographics. I
need to download a bunch of Census GIS data and I either get timed out or
run out of hours in the day to complete the task. Can I get a volunteer to
download everything in the following directories and burn them to disk and
send them to me?

Ah Ok. I looked up ours using www.zipskinny.com . Not sure what census they are
pulled from, maybe 2000. On one of our zipcodes I get

General Information:
Latitude: 36.543183
Longitude: -85.811146
Population: 4792
Density:41.64
(people per square land mile)
Housing Units: 2133
Land Area: 115.09 sq. mi.
Water Area: 0.09 sq. mi

Not sure if its any help, but it is interesting for your own use i guess.

Everything in these directories are GIS related data mapping files. I need
all of them to build up the map layers so that I can calculate the
population and households based by the WISP map.

Re: [WISPA] National Map - NEED HELP

2009-02-04 Thread Brian Webster
This map will eventually have the tabulations done by census tract (the
format the new form 477 uses) which does not resolve down to zip codes. They
are polygons create by the census and have specific data related to them.
Unfortunately the polygons don't have the data with them, you have to
download that separately, extract the relevant information and then do table
linking. A lot of work.

[WISPA] propane generators?

2009-02-04 Thread Randy Cosby
Anyone using small propane generators at their wireless towers? Any
suggestions? I only need 2KW or so, but would like to be able to start
it remotely as needed. The site is primarily solar, this would be to
back us up on snow days.

thanks,

Today I received an update from Matt and the WISP directory and I continue
to receive updates from many WISP's as well. Total land area now covers
almost 750,000 square miles. That 3/4 of a million I've heard from a few
major vendors that they will try to get the word out about the project. This
latest map image has a less obnoxious logo I found for myself.

This stuff rocks! In a week we added more than 300,000 square miles of
coverage area. Let's keep getting the word out and updates coming in.

For what it's worth (and maybe someone's already said this, but), the

You need to use UV rated zip ties in your case then. Still, they'll
last longer - not forever.

Here in Ohio we get a good month of sunshine per year so zipties work out.

Re: [WISPA] Lost routes...

2009-02-04 Thread Mike Hammett
I wasn't aware that you could run 2.9.xx on any 300, 400, 600, or 1000
series boards. I was actually quite certain you could not.

I did this on a 411 the other day without a problem. don't forget the
firmware. I have had a couple issues with going to 3.x and the radio
doesn't show up until the firmware update is done so if your doing it
remotely over the wireless link, keep that in mind.

I'm running 3.20 on a few older 532 boards without issues.

Your prolly loosing the default route. This was in one of the

 release

notes a while back but if you update the OS and firmware on the 2.9
stuff your problem should go away.
