Hi All
We currently use Avaya's Access Points on our campus, and the latest product
they've released is the AP-8. I've read the pdf's and heard the supplier's
details, but just thought I'd ask this group if anyone has used it and if
so, what are their impressions?
Any info you can provide is grea
Hi All
I was just curious what people on this list have done for site surveys. Has
it been basically a couple access points and some laptops? Or have you gone
ahead and hired consultants/suppliers to come in and do your site survey?
Has anyone used any particular software to do complete campus pl
Hi All,
I was hoping someone could clear something up. When an 802.11g Access Point
(for example, Avaya) has an 802.11b client talking to it, does that
effectively revert the access point from "g" to a "b" because of the "b"
client?
Thanks
Matt

Can you easily reproduce the problem?

Hi All,
I've been fighting a problem on campus where students laptops appear to be
dropping their ip connection to the network sporadically. I'm hoping someone
can shed some light on the situation.
I think I've narrowed it down to the broadcast limiting in the Access
Points. I was using the defaul

latest-greatest firmware and the problem went away. I'm not even going to
try
to explain why it would behave differently between different type of access

....hope this helps
Hi All,
I've had some problems diagnosing a wireless problem, and thought I'd try
this list. We offer wireless access in our libraries. We have 3 libraries on
campus. I have a user who is complaining that her laptop (Dell with Linksys
card) is dropping it's ip connection about every 5 minutes when
We place all infected machines on a private, non-routable vlan. We use squid
on a linux server placed in that vlan. The server acts as a gateway for the
infected network, so all traffic is directed to it. Squid then takes any web
traffic and directs it all to a webpage with specific instructions on
Hi,
No I haven't tried leaky coax yet. From the info I could find on the
net about it, it doesn't seem to be a good fit at the 2.4Ghz range. But I'd be
interested in hearing of anyone who thinks otherewise!
Thanks

Hi,
I'm wondering what people are doing for installing wireless in buildings
where it is mainly offices off of a long hallway. This is something that
needs to be done where I am, but I want to get the best coverage possible to
all offices. An omni directional antenna would seem to be the best appr
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to disable a wireless interface on an
Avaya AP-3 by any other means other than physically removing the card.
I know it's not possible via the web interface. The command line interface
seems to maybe offer this feature using "set wif 3 adminstatus ..." b
Hey All,
I'm in the early stages of playing around (read:
Newbie) with Radius (freeradius to be specific). I'm curious to know how people
are using Radius in their wireless network design for authentication
purposes. Things like:

Hi All,
Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I told the
guys who do the lab images for our campus I'd ask this list on the off-chance
someone else has seen this.

Actually, what I'd like to do is have the access
point in the remote building (with no wired access) plug into a multiport hub
which I can then attach wired users too. I have the point-to-point connection
working (thanks for the tip on using the same channel!), but am still testing to

Hi All,
I've been trying to set up a Point-to-Point
connection using Avaya's AP-3's Wireless distribution System (WDS).
There's not much in the documentation, but I did
follow what they said to do. Basically I set up two AP-3's and placed the
mac address of the card in one of them as a
Looks like we're running similar problems as you. One laptop will work
great, then you reboot and won't work, absolutely no pattern. When I do an
IP ping, it is steady. I haven't tried an ipx ping.
Cheers

I'm not a Novell technician (a comms guy myself), but from what I've been
told a few of our servers are incapable of going pure IP because either
they're not at NW6 or some of the apps they deliver are not ip-ready. But
you're right, and I do see a lot of broadcast traffic due to IPX, which is

Hi,
I probably should have provided a bit more info. The laptops are all running
Windows98 and we are up to Netware6. The weird thing about this problem is,
sometimes it works, the student is able to log-in, and other times it does
not, and they get a "Tree or Server Not Found" error. I personally
Hi All,
We have a wireless program at our libraries, where
students are able to sign out wireless laptops and use them at the library. I'm
running into a problem where users are having problems logging into Novell (via
IPX) using these wireless laptops. They are getting "Tree or Server Not

HI All,
I'm not sure if this list is still active, but
thought I'd throw out a question here.
I have some Lucent AP-2's installed in a building
and users are complaining things are either very slow, or they sometimes have
problem logging on. I took a laptop up with a wireless client and
