i've used this and it validates:

type=application/x-shockwave-flash
param name=movie value=opening.swf
If you need to support OS9 then the best browser on that platform is
IE5/MAC.
There are builds of Moz 1.4 and an unsupported 1.7 (I think from
memory).
Opera V6/MAC is not very good on IMO, and lot's of web sites appear
broken in it - I don't recommend it.
