A "return false" could prevent this.

But in your case, you specifically tells browser to go top:

...images/pdc-brochure-low-res.pdf" target="_top"

Apart from the target="_top". We don't do nested anchor links.

You may want to clean up your codes, and perhaps pick up a habit switching
between view source and visual mode when work in Dreamweaver.

It does. With limitations though - you just can't do anything too fancy. I
actually tested the phone briefly when visited a client who owns a Mobile
Phones and accessories store and is a reseller of a few known Carriers, I just
wouldn't dare ask my client do a browser check for me :-)

A heads-up for media queries fans, it does not support Media Queries. You can
use though.

Does javascript work at all on a real windows 7 mobile browser?

Re: [WSG] Lightbox++ and mobiles etc

2011-01-18 Thread Joseph Taylor
If you're using a lightbox you must have some javascript in there
somewhere so:

You can use javascript to detect your viewport size and only fire your
lightboxes if it's of a certain size.

When it comes to making the galleries visible on a mobile phone I

All suggestions welcome.
Many thanks,

Try it the other way around: lay it out in mobile first?
@media only screen and (max-width:480px),only screen and
(max-device-width:480px) {...}

IE8 uses 102% CPU resources and the site srcolls relatively slow! The
problem is with 'having a scroller or not' in general and the inefficiency
of is that is being used for presentation and not content
structure! Thanks for your reply Antony, but as 45% of my target users will
use IE i need something extra lightweight!!! Found this
http://www.talkincode.com/examples/javascript-marquee/horizontal-scroll.html,
which looks pretty clean and fast... any proposals much appreciated

[WSG] To or not to here is the question!!!

2011-01-18 Thread dionisis karampinis
Greetings to everyone,

I prepare a web project (wordpress), where my boss desires a horizontal news
ticker scrolling from left to right at the top of my header!!! It is
something i would not propose to anyone to do, but unfortunately i have to
do it..

Initially i used the li scroller from
http://www.gcmingati.net/wordpress/wp-content/lab/jquery/newsticker/jq-liscroll/scrollanimate.html,
which is extremely slow and uses huge CPU resources, especially when
using
it with IE8, but almost the same thing happens with Firefox, Safari, Chrome
and Opera... I cant figure out if this a .js problem or something to do with
wordpress loop (as this is a custom loop which creates an unordered lists of
some particular posts).

At the same time seems to do the job, extremely fast and without
'eating' my CPU's resources!!! I know that the particular html tag is a big
NO NO these days and a not semantic element whatsoever...

The situation is really tough as i need good performance and at the same
time, to only use semantic elements in my code!!!

If anyone has been through these problems before or knows anything about it
i would really appreciate it!!!

Best regards and many thanks to everyone!!! Have a good day.

When it comes to making the galleries visible on a mobile phone I do not
have a problem since I've made the structure elastic and the grid shrinks to 6
rows of 2 images. Fine. BUT : clearly, the lightbox images simply do not fit
on the small screen and I wondered if anyone has solved the problem of how to
stop the lightbox working on small screens? Media queries?

All suggestions welcome.

Many thanks,

Bob

Try it the other way around: lay it out in mobile first?
@media only screen and (max-width:480px),only screen and
(max-device-width:480px) {...}

http://chelseacreekstudio.com/fa/Thanks David,I've done that, no problem. But
for 'normal folk on larger screens' I want the lightbox to show the larger
images. I don't want two sites . . .??Bob
