Meaning the images would rotate every 5 seconds or so automatically, without the need for a refresh. The only requirements would be: - A fade effect between the rotating images. - A fall back so users without javascript will still get a single image. Any links would be greatly appreciated. RE: [WSG] Page Structure
Hi Some great stuff, thanks to all. >Are Ed's clients' customers more likely to search on 'Glory Days' or >'Rugby World Cup 2007 Packages'? Definitely the latter. They want clients who want to go to the Rugby World Cup 2007. I presume they are not too bothered who their supplier is ;-) Of course keeping the "branding" on each page is also important. I know multiple 's are frowned upon but what about something like: Glory Days tickets, accommodation & travel packages for major events throughout the uk, europe and worldwide Rugby World Cup 2007 Packages Would I penalised for something like this? [WSG] Page Structure
Hello I am about to start a new website and was given some advice by a SEO expert who says the h1 on the page should be the most relevant thing to the page. For example for a Sports Packages company I design the website for they have: Company Name Tagline Page Content Which in my instance is: Glory Days tickets, accommodation & travel packages for major events throughout the uk, europe and worldwide Rugby World Cup 2007 Packages How should this be marked up: Glory Days tickets, accommodation & travel packages for major events throughout the uk, europe and worldwide Rugby World Cup 2007 Packages However the Rugby World Cup 2007 is the actual page content, they say that should be the does anyone have a better suggestion as to how to deal with this common problem? RE: [WSG] Certifications / Exams / Accreditations / Qualifications
Hi Thanks for your reply. I was kind of thinking the same thing as you and a wee bit investigation revealed not a lot. I am indeed in the UK (Scotland) and have a degree in Computer Science from way back :-) You may be right about the portfolio and keeping up to date but some way to qualify this might be nice. I have not checked on the MS Cert's recently but last time I did look they were based on MS products. I have an old MCP+SB from a few years ago but it's all changed now :-) Hi, I noticed that you are based in the UK, and to be honest, there aren't really any certificates that count for anything here, aside from possibly a degree/masters in Computer Science or similar. I changed career about 4 years ago to web design after playing around with it for a couple of years as a hobby and was looking for courses as you describe. The only thing I really found was CIW (certified internet webmaster) courses, which I duly took. They were pretty basic and only covered stuff I could have got from half a £10 book. I then found that I had to explain what these 'qualifications' were at every job interview I had... No-one had heard of them. On a positive note, I guess they improved my confidence towards my work. >From personal experience, I found that the UK market is pretty keen on accessibility and standards so I worked hard at trying to understand these areas and building up a decent portfolio. A portfolio is much more important than a CV nowadays. I am now involved in our recruitment process and tend to be much more interested in whether candidates read lists such as this one, read/write blogs, go to conferences, etc than if they have a degree or other certificate. The web moves so quickly that what is relevant now may be irrelevant in a years time (tabindex and accesskeys being 2 things that pop to the front of my mind as fairly recent examples of this phenomenon). Hope that helps James *** List Guidelines: http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm Unsubscribe: http://webstandardsgroup.org/join/unsubscribe.cfm Help: [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** *** List Guidelines: http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm Unsubscribe: http://webstandardsgroup.org/join/unsubscribe.cfm Help: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ***

Can you guys confirm? http://gb.lotusseeds.com/menutest_2.html Honestly I wasn't too crazy to try out sliding doors or preloader scripts method (nonetheless it has to be done so that I can get over with the whole annoying moment before stepping into a fresh new year :) ), had wasted some 4 hours trying out one of the Stu Nicholls' method (http://www.webreference.com/programming/ css_flicker/) and it broke quite badly in IE andI didn't feel like fixing yet another IE bug. If this truly works (sorry for my skeptism! Hi Why not make the background image of the the same as the hover. That way it preloads itself? The problem only happens when I have different images for link and hover, and a background image for the #menu. The problem has been there for a long time with other sites, due to the busy schedules and deadlines I decided to ignore it because, after all, the menus are working - sites were up for months and nobody complaints. Nonetheless, I know how annoying it is. Was working on a new site using the same menu code, the annoyances suddenly becomes so big that I can't stand it anymore. I suspect it's something to do with caches yet I don't seem able to find what causes the problem. Symptoms are random: empty gap, hover image disappears or white space occurs, when either of these happens, I move the cursor to the next menu item, come back again and it gets back to normal state. RE: [WSG] Dragon Way (Site Check)
>I viewed it on a variety of browsers on PC. Technically, I guess, the client is correct: the text isn't centerd. The entire image is centered in the window. Since the logo on the left is a drawing, the actual >text - Dragon Way - is visually off to the right. And because of the color difference between logo and text, the text part seems (to me) to be heavier and draws my eye more, so it isn't 'centered.' Sorry, my mistake on #1 not explaining it fully. To put it as gently as I can, yes: [1] Personally I put the user agents I design to in the job spec/quote so there re no misunderstandings later along the lines of, 'it doesn't look the sme in NN4 and FF'. [2] Consultation as to why supporting a certain agent is being depracated / depreciated if needed. E.g. Cost for extra work, audience use percentage etc. [3] Valid code doesn not mean the pages will look as you require in the browser. I'd suggest development in a standards compliant browser and cross-checking cross browser and platform _before_ showing the client in all other browsers as you go, rather than getting surprises at the end. OK that doesn't help you right now but as others have suggested, pointing out that the IE5.2- audience will make up (I'm guessing based on stats I monitor) <1% of the audience might help. The alterntive is (I assume not realistic) gettting a Mac, testing and re-writing your code. ** The discussion list for http://webstandardsgroup.org/ See http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm for some hints on posting to the list & getting help ** ** The discussion list for http://webstandardsgroup.org/ See http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm for some hints on posting to the list & getting help **
