That's pretty much exactly what I described. Propagation is a harsh mistress.

It has been repeatedly stated that FT8 is not a low power mode, it is a weak
signal mode.

But the same can be said of multi-stream F/H. I can say with certainty that I
have Super contacts in the log with N5J that I would not have if they had been

On mu Kubuntu machine the TX stream only shows up in the PulseAudio volume

I would agree to that. I saw one with a P7 call yesterday that looked quite
legitimate. My finger wanted badly to click on it but I said "no, wait...".
Never saw it again. Despite what the nay-sayers claim, FT modes do require some
human thought to get the best out of them. :)

I actually see RRR fairly often. In many cases I think it is newbies who have
not read the manual.
The thing that puzzles me a bit is that occasionally I will work an op who
sends RR73 and then after my 73 he also sends a 73. At that point it starts to

You guys are saying the same thing if different ways. It is all split. Just
like repeater split, DXpedition split, and 40m DX split are all different kinds
of split so are rig split and audio split in WSJTX. If anything this just shows
that it needs to be clarified in the documentation so it i

Auto sequencing is not perfect and will fail eveyone sooner or later. In
circumstances where the auto sequencing fails it is the responsibility of the
operator to manually select the correct message to send, and to manually click
the Log QSO button if necessary.

Every ham with a modern HF rig has a simple, accurate, and reliable way of
getting the correct time. It's called WWV. If you can't hear WWV on at least
one frequency you either need to do some more antenna work or the bands are in
such bad shape you won't make many contacts anyway.
