Re: XQuartz doesn't survive hibernation mode - how to cure?
I see this type of behavior all the time with GIMP — the tool options window disappears after waking from sleep. Fortunately GIMP has a Show/Hide Docks menu item. BTW I’m running GIMP under XQuartz 2.7.9 in El Capitan. > On Sep 18, 2016, at 5:20 PM, Tom Lane wrote: > > Markus Gschwind writes: >> After hibernation mode, the Xterm is lost and therefore the open windows of >> these apps are gone (without saving the workspace). And my server still is there. If you are running an app on same machine as your X terminal/server, then the connection is local, and when one goes to sleep, the other goes to sleep so neither notice they weren't there for hours when you wake the machine up. But when you have an app on a server whose output is targetted at your laptop's X-server, then when the laptop goes to sleep, the app on the server continues to run and expect regular "keep alive" heartbeats from the X-server which does not respond because it is asleep. ___ Do not post admin requests to the list. The worst thing you can do is upgrade. History proves under what circumstances the company in question goes down the drain, only this time it is going to be bit more tricky to get back. sincerely, pg ___ Do not post admin requests to the list. XQuartz has recently grown a bad habit of repositioning windows at wake (seems to only happen to windows that have not been manually moved since they were created). Sometimes it shoves them clear offscreen. There are various ways to get one back --- sometimes another sleep/wake cycle suffices, but if it doesn't, try maximizing the window using XQuartz's menu entries. regards, tom lane ___ Do not post admin requests to the list. When a Mac is asleep, it does not send regular "keep alive" packets to the X application on remote host, so eventually that X application declares the IP link to be dead and then ends. XQuartz doesn't survive hibernation mode - how to cure?
Hello, I am having troubles with all apps that relay on Xterm (especially MATLAB). After hibernation mode, the Xterm is lost and therefore the open windows of these apps are gone (without saving the workspace). This is very annoying and seems to be new since I upgraded from OSX 10.6.8 to 10.9.5. How can this be cured? Thanks in advance, Markus MacbookPro 2011, 2.2 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 2TB SSD, running OSX 10.9.5 uptodate.
