Here is a script that needs XScreenSaver running to detect the transition...
This one powers off my LCD when the screensaver comes on. Maybe there is
something in there you can adapt to your needs.

there web site, they no longer have any info on the monitor. I am not sure
if it is sold as another manufacturer number or it is just too old.

This doesn't look like a monitor issue. It looks like the
SIS driver isn't starting because there is a kernel component missing
(related to the DRI). Perhaps if you commented out loading of
the dri module in the XF86Config, it might fix that problem.
