Hi all,
I'm new to the list but a Zappa fan since 1966. I
have most of his stuff. Just got 3 new ones from Gail. Joe's Corsage, Joe's
Domage, and Imaginary Diseases.
So..I'm wondering how this works. Do I send money
to get these?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Ummm. No that
would be like selling something that doesnt belong to one. They are free
to copy. Having never been officially released these recordings fall between
the legal cracks. Most of them are high quality recordings of some of the best
live shows ever. See this post from a few

I can't "answer" for the copy of Lather you have (I've never
playedmine on my PC), but I do recall the tracking phenomenon you mention
from the vinyl days. I think your assessment is as good as any I've heard.
And while it has been a few years since my emailing, I received a very nice
Actually my copy of Ionisation includes Octandre
and Density (I seem to recall it listed as "Densities" but could be mistaken).
But I've never heard Ameriques. I'll take a look at Overstock and check the
prices. Thanks for the tip.

Another interesting work by Varese- Poeme Electronique- modified
taped and electronic effects created for a World's Fair exhibit I

punctuating his comedy music.
My original exposure to Varese (via Zappa referral) was on vinyl-
I hear the Varese influence on Frank in his use of

and atonal use of instruments. But Frank wore his
influences on his sleeve when it comes to Varese and Stravinsky
both.
Is Poeme Electronique the one with the firehorns
in it?

Totally true- one can hear Ionisation's influence all over Frank's
music and he seemed to unashamedly 'borrow' from Igor's Rites Of
Spring. Have to admit I am partial to Frank's Burnt Weenie Sandwich/
Uncle Meat era. I picked up an interesting disc from Half-Price
Books called Picantique.
Just a little Zappa/Varese sidenote.
At a Carnegie Hall show (don't remember if was the Mothers or Grand
Wazoo), a buddy and I gave Frank a Varese LP at the start of the show
and Frank said (something like) Ahh, Integrales and Ionisation. Very
cool. Thanks for the album. He handed it off to
