[Zappa-List] Re: VO: Frank Zappa - Chalk Pie - 1CD Audio

2006-04-03 Thread Conehead
Richard,
as much as I agree with you that everybody who is re-offering vines to
the group should always check carefully for past messages with the
correct remaining vine order,

in this case both Chalk Pie and KPFT Houston Crush All Boxes seem to
have reached the end of the line with Les. As far as I can tell
(checking all messages back to April 2005 by using the search mode
with Houston and Chalk Pie as keywords), there is no-one q-ing up
for either vine. So, in this instance, Les was right in offering both
vines to the group the way he did, i.e. to the first one responding
off-list (with his address) AND on-list (with his name plus country
code).

Hope I didn't overlook anybody waiting for these copies. Please speak
up if that's the case ...
Maybe somebody else could double-check.

Thanks ...

Conehead-BE

Yes, that's was accepted between Les and I on the
list Saturday...My mistakeIt wasn't meant to be a critical message...it was
meant to be a friendly prompt that was in made in errorplus I wanted his
mailing address for a pending vine, and although I had previously emailed
him through the list,I knew that comment was guaranteed to catch
eyes...lol...looks like I was right there!

RE: [Zappa-List] VO 1-Oct 1975, War Memorial Gym, Vancouver SBD

2006-04-03 Thread Jim L

Guy scottlibin-us. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 SOFA-us Richard
Moore - UK John K -
US Neil - UK
 Bart (Pol) Luis -AR

This one went out to
Guy this morning as 2 audio CDs. Not the very best sound quality but probably a
strong B+ to A-. The performance is a little different from the average. (if
there is an average) Frank tells the whole story of The Illinois Enema
Bandit in this one. I never knew it was a true story ;-)

It took a while to get
the last two tracks but I guess its the complete show now.

Jim
 L

1-Oct 1975, War
Memorial Gym, Vancouver, BC, Canada

116 min, Aud, A-/B+

93 min,SBD, A/A-

The SBD ends in the
middle of Zoot Allures.

Intro, Apostrophe ('),
Duke Of Prunes, Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me?, The Illinois Enema Bandit,
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy, Lonely Little Girl, Take Your Clothes Off When You
Dance, What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body?, Chunga's Revenge, Swallow My
Pride, Any Downers (incl Canadian Customs Routine), T'Mershi Duween, Zoot
Allures, Sleep Napkins/Black Napkins, Advance Romance, I'm The Slime

Lineage: Very low
(probably 2nd) gen SBD tape-CDR-EAC-SoundForge (pitch
correction, normalizing, editing, patching in fill, tracking)-FLAC Frontend

Lineage fill: 2nd gen
Aud tape-HD (noise-reduction)-CDR-EAC-SoundForge (pitch
correction, level adjustment)

Yes, it's another of
those infamous probably 2nd gen tapes, this time of a show that
already exists in three different shapes on the tracker. Let's hope this proves
to be the definitive version of the SBD. I am including two versions of track
10 Chunga's Revenge - one untouched and one with the missing bit patched in
from the audience version, so you can decide for yourself how you want it. The
total length with the patched track is 93.21.

01 intro

02 Apostrophe

03 Duke Of Prunes

04 Honey Don't You
Want A Man Like Me?

05 The Illinois Enema Bandit

06 Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy

07 Lonely Little Girl

08 Take Your Clothes
Off When You Dance

09 What's The Ugliest
Part Of Your Body?

10 Chunga's Revenge

11 Swallow My Pride

12 Any Downers?

13 Canadian Customs
Routine

14 T'Mershi Duween

15 Zoot Allures

Then this one
replacing 15 and adding 16 and 17

1975-10-01 Vancouver BC
 Canada, War
Memorial Gym

This comes from two
sources--

SBD: Yojimbo -- Very
low (probably 2nd) gen SBD tape-CDR-EAC-SoundForge
(pitch correction, normalizing, editing, patching in fill, tracking)-FLAC
Frontend

AUD: the part C:
Yojimbo 1st generation RAW - tape noise from WIU2B's seed

The AUD part was speed
corrected +1.5% / +25 cents. Then I crossfaded the SBD to the AUD from 3:31 to
3:47 in Zoot Allures.

15 Zoot Allures 7:17

16 Sleep Dirt 7:29

17 Black Napkins 9:00

Total time: 23:46

And finally the last
two tracks from a good audience recording.

18 Advance Romance

19 I m The Slime

[Zappa-List] VO Felt Forum Halloween '76 - update

2006-04-03 Thread jcoonk

A little news for those awaiting this:
I've acquired the late show from the 31st as promised, BUT
The sound is pretty shitty (B+, as listed, is too 'friendly', IMO), and the
speed is not right...
I can dick around with it, but I'm hesitant. It'd take me a little while to
complete, for starters. Should I let it go as is, when I receive the 30th disks
from JimL, and let the vine recipients do their own editing? I'd be interested
in hearing what the 'q' has to say...

[Zappa-List] King Biscuit '77 show. (Not a vine offer) (yet)

2006-04-03 Thread Jim L

I had someone send me
some CDs that he made from reel to reel tapes. He ripped them just fine but
didnt want to try splitting them into tracks and so sent them to me so
that I could do it. They seem to mostly be FM broadcasts of The King Biscuit
Flower Hour ranging from 70s to 80s. Anyway among them is a Zappa 1977-10-31
show. I think it was the first Halloween show or at least I thought I heard FZ
say something to that effect when talking to the crowed. I never had this show
before so Im wondering if anyone else has heard other sources for it?
This copy sounds pretty good but then I really havent listened to it all
yet. Also It crossed my mind that it might have been used in an official
release that I didnt know about? Any information appreciated.

I trust your ears. My philosophy
with audience recordings is that there is almost always room for improvement. Im
listening to the 30th show now and it sounds decent for an AUD. Good
strong bass (maybe a little too strong in places) and crisp highs. Claims not
to have been doctored so I guess it was good equipment.

I should probably explain this better...
The early show from the 31st sounds pretty fair - no complaints from me,
anyway. The late show, however, is a turd. I can tweak the sound, I can correct
the speed, but there's no way to eliminate the taper's asshole friends who do
NOT shut up the entire show. And it's grating - well, to me, it's way more than
grating...
Nevermind; I've made the decision to pass this show along as is. Even
polished to a see-yourself sheen, there's just no disguising that this show is a
turd...
And I've yet to hear FZ introduce himself as Cher Allman - something I find
hysterical, and am listening for intently. Got a couple more tracks to "proof"
before the package is ready...

To the best of my knowledge, that show is the first of the Palladium
Halloween shows. It certainly isn't a first Halloween show, as the vine I'm
concocting attests... Check more info on it at http://home.swipnet.se/fzshows/77b78a.html.
It says that the KB broadcast was made up of tape from the entire run, which was
6 shows at least.

Well a turds a turd I
guess. I think Michael was referring to my question about the 77 31st
show though. Unless he was confusing the two. Ether way a vine with 2 good
shows and 1 turd is still a pretty good vine. Completests might even want the
turd. I think Im spoiled from so many great sound board recordings. Ever
sense I heard that practically every show had a sound board recording made Ive
been collecting them almost exclusively. I dont know where they all come
from but there have been a lot lately. Perhaps the ZTF will see fit to let them
all out someday soon.

Thanks. It rates the
FM version an A. Im thinking that the one I have isnt quite an A.
As with most of this stuff I was sent there are better versions already in
circulation.

To the best of my knowledge, that show is the first
of the Palladium Halloween shows. It certainly isn't a first Halloween show, as
the vine I'm concocting attests... Check more info on it at http://home.swipnet.se/fzshows/77b78a.html.
It says that the KB broadcast was made up of tape from the entire run, which
was 6 shows at least.

The King Biscuit
Flower Hour, Zappa 1977-10-31 show. I think it was the first Halloween show or
at least I thought I heard FZ say something to that effect when talking to the
crowed. I never had this show before so Im wondering if anyone else has
heard other sources for it? This copy sounds pretty good but then I really
havent listened to it all yet. Also It crossed my mind that it might
have been used in an official release that I didnt know about? Any
information appreciated.

I should probably explain this better...
The early show from the 31st sounds pretty fair - no complaints from me,
anyway. The late show, however, is a turd. I can tweak the sound, I can
correct the speed, but there's no way to eliminate the taper's asshole friends
who do NOT shut up the entire show. And it's grating - well, to me, it's way
  more than grating...
Nevermind; I've made the decision to pass this show along as is. Even
polished to a see-yourself sheen, there's just no disguising that this show is
  a turd...
And I've yet to hear FZ introduce himself as Cher Allman - something I
find hysterical, and am listening for intently. Got a couple more tracks to
"proof" before the package is ready...
  SOFA

i have
10/30 and 10/31 on cassette..i rated the 30th B+ and 31st
  B-

This time it is the whole of the Pink Floyd contribution with
  Zappa joining the
group for a mamoth "Interstellar Overdrive", preceded sy
  Zappa and the
Floyd tuning up. This has been speed
corrected, the version that is making its rounds
  at present is 8-10% too
fast. We also have here amazing versions of
"Set the Controls for the Heart of
the Sun" and "Saucerful of Secrets", where we
  can here the reason why
  Zappa admired the Floyd so
  much. Anyone
any idea where the film of this event has ended up! It

FLAC version also contains mono versions of Dylan's "Blond

"Bringin' it all back home". All artwork for the Amougies
  is included.
There will be a USA branch and a Europe
and elsewhere one. Get your names down in the
usual way, I will send out to the two first
  ones as soon as
  possible.
  Here are the details:
Pink Floyd - 1969-10-25, Festival
  Actuel, Amougies, Belgium, Aud
initial distribution of the
  audience tape was mastered slow,

  this version has been SPEED-CORRECTED.

NB-- for this disc, the audience
recordings of "Green Is The Colour"
  and "Careful With
That Axe, Eugene" were patched with the more common
  soundboard source,
  taken from a
documentary film soundtrack. "Set The Controls" does not appear
  in the film but
is taken from a later FM broadcast of the same soundboard

to broadcast, thus is missing here. A
minute or so of dead air was edited
from the end of "Astronomy" for
  this disc as
  well. FLAC
copies should include the audience recordings of
