[Zeitgeist] [Bug 681887] Re: Moving Zeitgeist dbus Bus name from gnome to Freedesktop

Honestly I don't see what good this bring us except breakage of existing libs. We could own two names, but that just seems silly. Application authors should never need to see these namespaces. And it's a *namespace* nothing more. I'm quite sure distributors and ISVs can see past this. FWIW there's

There's no need to actually move our code and infrastructure to freedesktop.org hosting in order to be an official freedesktop project. We can certainly keep our code on Launchpad if we want to do that. Additionally, we're definitely in freedesktop.org's target audience, so it shouldn't be difficul

I don't have any problems with moving to freedesktop dbus name as long as it does not break things. If it doesn't I don't have any objections to anything. -- Moving Zeitgeist dbus Bus name from gnome to Freedesktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681887 You received this bug notification because

Basically I agree with Manish, moving everything just to show that we're not dependant on gnome doesn't sound like a good idea. I guess we could reside on both names for a period of time and then drop the org.gnome.* one, but to use a freedesktop domain we'd need to have some official approval from

I don't think it is any more possible (if yes, then very tough). It might break nearly all the applications. Fixing them would be a huge pain and someone needs to track all such instances. -- Moving Zeitgeist dbus Bus name from gnome to Freedesktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/681887 You recei

Public bug reported: Zeitgeist currently uses the org.gnome dbus domain. As we are no longer a GNOME-specific project, I think it would make more sense to move the project to the org.freedesktop domain, as org.freedesktop.Zeitgeist.engine or something similar. ** Affects: zeitgeist Importanc
