Re: [Zen] D.L. Again
It is a Tibetan Buddhism tradition, after the Dalai Lama passes away, his people will look for a new born reincarnated with his spirit to continue that leadership. I am sure, if you google/wikipedia it, you will find it. JM On Feb 15, 2008 5:59 PM, Bill Smart [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: MJMJ, Thanks for your thoughtful post. You documented many things about DL I didn't know – like his announcement that, as you wrote, …he would not be reincarnated. What do you think he meant by that? Do you think he meant that he, as the personage of Dali Lama, would not be reincarnated? Do you think that he meant that he himself would not be reincarnated? If he meant this it would seem to go against Buddhist teachings. Zen might allow for that if DL was fully enlightened and as a result no longer subject to karma and the cycle of life and death. I don't know what the traditional Buddhist teaching is on that. I'd be interested in your thoughts on this. Oh yes, I almost forgot – are you married? Do you think we could meet in a coffee shop somewhere to get to know each other better? I'm a Capricorn. What's your sign? Again What I have learned about Chan is to be synced with the life force and wisdom at all time and be detached from all forms. Or in our every day language, live with our best foot forward without expectation, agenda, objective, etc. Based on this perspective, though still partial once expressed in language . Dalai Lama was carried out to protect the linage. D.L was brought up to lead, guide, broadcast, teach whatever he was capable of, educated with, felt inside, or believed in strongly. Now that he is aging. His rinpoches are teaching world wide. He has met every leader in the world that he could. He has also now realized that his insistence that he will be reincarnated again will only divide his people more. And even perhaps cause more suffering. He realized also perhaps that his mission in this life is to bring Tibetanism to the rest of the world instead of just in Tibet. As you know, he announced that he will not be reincarnated again. I have thumb through a book published in Taiwan, by someone who interviewed D.L extensively on this decision of his. It was complex, forward looking, as well as spiritual with some political points of view. In all, what i have learned about D.L. was he did what he could at every moment. That is in line what I have learned. I can not say that I am correct. I can only say, no one should make quick judgment on anyone else. We are all here with a mission. Each of us is different. _/\_ JM __ NOD32 2880 (20080215) Information __ This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system. http://www.eset.com
Re: [Zen] Call For: Roshis, Monks, Teachers
Hi Al, This call of yours, is a calling in the conscious domain or knowledge Buddhism. With this calling, you will receive response from those who value certificates, schools, titles, etc. True teachers exist only if our hearts resonate with they existences. Everything else is irrelevant. On Feb 16, 2008 10:17 AM, Al [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: In the land of the blind, the one-eyed is king. Here at zen forum, it is the blind leading the blind. Then we got a couple of monks and they were always complaining about everybody and everything. Compared to the monks, I was like a ray of sunshine. So the monks went away, and now it is even worse. There is nobody on board with any kind of certified, bona-fide knowledge about anything. So I am putting out a call for Roshis, monks, senseis and anyone else with a certified diploma, degree, vocational school certificate or other documentation of zen study. I am not talking about anonymous entities with websites, I am talking about real, verifiable zen teachers. The pay will be very good for your soul if you have one. Al, From a lawyer perspective, it’s like pro se. Or in the words of a famous Latin American public servant: ‘We don’t need no stinking badges!” …Bill! Most transmit with formalities only. Sitting Chan is now often just a mental balancing act. The spiritual power of Chan disappeared from too many schools and practices. True teachers are hard to find in this Dark Ages of Buddhism. An enlightened teacher teaches direct and absolute Dharma. What does that mean? This Dharma is the universal Dharma whether spoken or none spoken, whether is called Dharma or not. It is everywhere in our lives and at every moment. It is always there. The challenge is really in the recipient. In order to receive it, we have to sync to it without any attitude whatsoever. See through all forms to its essence, its originality, its cause and cause of causes. No matter what attitude, joke like yours, comparison, categorization, are all fruits of our active mind. They are all practices for the conscious domain, which Chan is not. Chan exists only in the spiritual domain. Just quiet our mind. We could then be connected with the Universal life force and wisdom, or Chan, or Zen, or God, or Ala, or whatever. It is not hard, just practice. JM Al wrote: From: Jue Miao Jing Ming True teachers exist only if our hearts resonate with they existences. Let the true teachers step forth. If you are a teacher, then someone has recognized your teaching skills. That is not meant with disrespect to the many who have given their hearts and souls and who are honest. However, there is a big difference between those who have received professional training at a zen temple and everyone else. If you go to a hospital, you want the specialist to treat you. If you are at the internet zen forum, it would be helpful if we had some professionals among us for some occasional guidance. Of course, for most of the past nine years we have been without guidance, and there are many who have felt enriched by the participation. RE: [Zen] Call For: Roshis, Monks, Teachers
Al, I've noticed that too. I think it's because I usually post via email using HTML format. For some reason the apostrophes, carriage returns and dots are are translated into gobbledy-gook (aka Cyrillic). This ought to be better. I wrote it in plain text format. In case you couldn't decipher my last email, I said what JMJM proposed was like being a zen teacher 'pro se', or in the words of a famous Latin American philosopher: We don't need no stinking badges!. ...Bill!
