2007-03-01 Thread shahrzad khorrami

Hi all,
What is the algorithm of indexing objects in ZODB?

Is there any place where I can see the structure of ZODB ?

Thanks alot

 Hi,

at the sprint we've discovered that the PyPI entry points to the wiki
page of ZODB. This seems to be a bad idea in two aspects:

 - The wiki is pretty slow and buildout trying to find newer
 versions for
 ZODB takes a looong time
 - The wiki is editable by anonymous users and we rely on it to find
download files. This looks like a security risk.
Good point. Feel free to make it so, or I will later.

I wanted to point it to the product area of zope.org. However, it seems
that we have one Product area for each release (ZODB3-3.6, -3.7,
-3.5, ...) instead of (as Zope does) having one.

I have just made a static page, listing the different product folders,
released files, SVN / CVS checkouts, etc.

I'd like to stop using this area for ZODB. PyPI is better in a
number of ways.

In the uploads I made, I removed the URL and Download URL.
(Maybe I should add back the URL.)

Not sure if there's anyone in charge of building Windows binaries. I
could do that if you give me rights to upload to pypi.

I have a Windows VM on my Mac, so its fairly easy for me to build
windows releases of distutils packages, so I don't mind doing it.
I'm inclined to just build eggs. Does anyone *really* want an exe
installer?

Regressing to a previous life: it would be more inviting to Windows-folk
to have an executable installer; at least until easy_install permeates
the community some more.

That assumes that inducing uptake is a major goal for the ZODB project.
It might well be possible that the cost of executable installers is
greater than their value.

Ok, thanks.

I've updated the setup.py of ZODB/trunk to refer to this URL and have
re-registered it with PyPI.

Right. One thing that I consider annoying is that easy_install will go
off to the homepage of the product to find downloads.

As soon as a product uses a Wiki that can be edited anonymously this
becomes dangerous.

I guess I should bring that up on the distutils list ..

Why? It isn't their problem.

Right. I meant setuptools.

It isn't setuptools problem either.

It is our problem. I suggest that the home page for ZODB shouldn't be a
that can be updated anonymously Wiki. Our old wikis didn't allow
anonymous updates.
