In my response to this question, it is not meant as an advertisement---only to
answer his question. And yes our business is running on Solaris Zones.

If there is a moratorium on answering this type of question, is response only to
be to that person and not to the group? Could someone define the rules

I think it's up to the community to define the rules, and you are part
of the community. Define away ;-)

I do not think that the zone mailing list should be an advertising conduit. But
should provide information about any zone question.

How does the group feel in this list?

I think replying to a question with 'We do X' or 'We use Y' hardly
qualifies as an advert.

Indeed. There are several. Do people think it would be right and
proper to have a section of them on the OpenSolaris zones page? Or
would that somehow seem like advertising?

Unless they're actually using Open Solaris directly, and there's some
sort of obvious tie-in, it sounds to me more like a www.sun.com sort
 of thing.

  I guess I'm wondering if there's a desire for opensolaris.org to
highlight opportunities to run on any one of the distributions, be it
by burning and booting an ISO, or by using an OpenSolaris-based
  hosting provider.

Probably something to discuss in opensolaris-mktg (or even
cab-discuss, if you conclude it's too controversial). I see Al's made
a supporting comment, so maybe best to move to Marketing and see if
it's not just a zones thing--would plain hosting with any OpenSolaris
  distribution be worth a mention?

I'm not too opposed to seeing happily used by links on
opensolaris.org, though there's probably a fuzzy line there between
promoting Open Solaris and just plain old advertising.

It might be better still if this were somehow an automatically-
generated assemblage of www.$distribution.com/happy-users links, so
that each distribution would get a chance to post and maintain the
contacts they know about.

The original message posted here, though, was about S10. Perhaps it's
a too-pedantic distinction to be made, but it seems to me that citing
this on opensolaris.org as evidence of the utility of Open Solaris
might be a bit risky. It's not actually Open Solaris, though it is
Zones.

I don't see how it's that much different from the Distributions links
  (which are potentially commercial).
