I do wonder what would happen if you had both
 lib/python/Products/CMFCore
and Products/CMFCore, though. Would there be an explicit preference
 or would
Zope fail to start up with a conflict? I think I'd prefer the
 latter, in
fact, so that people don't end up modifying/upgrading the wrong code by
 accident!

Well, we could probably add conflict-detection to the entry point
handlers for Zope (ie so any two packages that try to register as the
same project would cause an error). But regarding Products/CMFCore and
lib/python/Products/CMFCore conflicting... that would be up to the
standard pythonpath mechanism of the python interpreter (whichever is
 first on the path wins).

Zope 2 itself manipulates Products.__path__ to add INSTANCE/Products
(or any other directory specified in zope.conf) as a directory which
can contain further products (the original Products package lives at
ZOPE/lib/python/Products). pkg_resources uses the same mechanism for
 namespace packages (that's what the
pkg_resources.declare_namespace('Products') call is all about); it
 appends to __path__.

Therefore, Zope will treat /path/to/the/CMFCore-egg/Products as
another directory that contains a product (in this case just one,
CMFCore). Thus the standard product override rules apply when the same
product is installed in multiple directories.

I updated the proposal text with this information.

I imagine it would be pretty trivial to write something that would
generate a setup.py from an svn:externals property so you could create a
Products distribution in one fell swoop, especially since the entry
point section of the setup.py can handle config parser output.

As an example, I'd like to point to my 'install-plone.py' script again,
which does it the other way around. There, the Products/ directory in
SVN pulls in the Products via svn:externals, and the only thing that
remains is 'Products/__init__.py' with the namespace declaration. This
is of course less than ideal for controlling versions (although the
svn:externals might just as well point to a tagged bundle), but maybe
good enough for the 'legacy' (can we call Products that?) code that we have.

BTW, compare the difference in size between that script[1] and
ploneout[2]. I should mention that it does less than ploneout (it
doesn't download Zope 2, but that'd be trivial to add) and it could be
argued that it's less flexible for some definition of flexible. (Sorry
for being OT here.)

Well, I'd say that ploneout is only this big:
http://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/ploneout/trunk/buildout.cfg

There are svn:externals to the products and eggs.

There are also generic recipes for installing zope 2 and setting up a zope 2
instance and downloading tarballs for products. These are basically this
big:

http://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/ploneout/trunk/src/z2c.recipe.zope2install/src/z2c/recipe/zope2install/__init__.py
http://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/ploneout/trunk/src/z2c.recipe.zope2instance/src/z2c/recipe/zope2instance/__init__.py
http://svn.plone.org/svn/plone/ploneout/trunk/src/z2c.recipe.distros/src/z2c/recipe/distros/__init__.py

Still a bit longer than your script, but not quite so scary. :) The zope 2
install recipe is the only one that's not mostly trivial (if you consider
shell and file operations trivial). That recipe tries to give you a lot of
flexibility to control what the instance (and thus the deployed
environment).

That said, I quite like your script as an example of using workingenv from
python to set this stuff up.

Hi Maurits,

thank you very much. This is great. I found the Instance-Folder. I didnt
know anything about this folder before. And there, as it should be, there
are the folders Products and import aund Extensions. Everything should
be fine now, I did search the two other folders over and over again, I could
have searched them for ages ...

The Folder is called Zope-Instance and is located at C:\

same way as normal Zope. Adding anything here would only affect CPS,
 not any Zope 2.9.4 instances.

 C:\Programme\Zope-2.9.4\lib\python\Products

This is the Products dir that is used by all Zope instances; it is a
part of core Zope . Normally only core Zope products should be here
and you should not add anything to it manually. But adding your own
products here *would* work I guess. Try it when everything else
 fails.

 C:\Programme\Zope-2.9.4\skel\Products

When you create a new Zope instance, this is the Products directory
that gets copied to that instance. You could put some basic products
in here that you want to have in every new Zope instance that you
create. But: adding products here will *only* affect *new* instances,
not instances that you have already made.

ZMI is working fine, nuxeo cps, too.
Have I to create a new Folder somewhere, I want to add Products like
 calzope cpsgroupware?

These products should be added to the Zope instance. The directories
you mention above contain source code used by instances, but they are
 not instances themselves.

I would expect the Zope instance to have been created in Documents and
Settings or in My Documents; but that is a guess. You could let
Windows search for any directories with the name 'Products'. That
should turn up some more hits. Or create a new Zope instance (maybe
call C:\Programme\Zope-2.9.4\bin\mkinstance or something like that)
and see where the instance is created.

I have a similar problem with the Import folder. Which one is the right,
just importing inside a folder of the ZMI?

It should be a folder called 'import' in the same directory as the
Products directory of your instance. It should be automatically
created for you when you create a new instance.

Many thanks I am really stuck and tried for more than one day

I hope this helps. My answers are based on my experience with Zope on
Linux though; Windows may handle things differently, so sorry if I am
putting you on the wrong track.

you mention above contain source code used by instances, but they are
 not instances themselves.

My answers are based on my experience with Zope on
Linux though; Windows may handle things differently, so sorry if I am
putting you on the wrong track.

acl = self.getUserFolder() // Is this ok?
I think no.

Do you have any error tracebacks or what do you
mean by 'not working'?

Take a look at CAS4PAS plugin. It may
give you some clues.

Re: [Zope] Is there any way to turn off the publishing of externalmethods to the web in Zope?

They're not uncommitted, they're in a public subversion repository
thats' advertised on the project's pages on sourceforge which is linked
to from squishdot.org...

LESSON #2: If you want to produce a new product/component, learn Zope 3 and use
that for the new work, unless Zope 2 compatibility is for some reason required.

Right.

LESSON #4: If a competent programmer provides Zope bindings then make a
reasonable effort to get them to work instead of giving up and using external
methods.

You install Twiddler, you follow the install instructions in
twiddler/zope2/readme.txt and then you have Twiddler as an option in
your ZMI add menu.

LESSON #5: My recommendation would be to buy Philipp's Zope 3 book and
read it from cover to cover before you start work...

I can't stress this one enough either, many thanks again to Philipp for
doing the one thing that Zope has always needed :-)

And the 'Error' is ... !?

I'm not sure but isn't plone using modified version of PAS (Plone PAS)?
Maybe it is something because of that.

I've found plugin for plone that you may want to analyze:
http://plone.org/products/ip-range-pas-plugin.

In general what is your plugin supposed to do??

RE: [Zope] Re: FW: Problem Starting Zope after Installation

2007-01-31 Thread Ken Winter
Eric ~

Right you are! A ThinkPad R52. So I removed those environment variables,
restarted the machine, invoked Zope, and. still got the same error, No
module named ImplPython.

So I'm wondering:

1. Is it possible that you did anything else, anything beyond removing
those variables, that might have brought about your success?
2. Do you think I need to reinstall Zope after making the change?

~ Thanks

~ Ken

I bet you had the problem on a ThinkPad too.

I had the same problem about the No module named ImplPython problem.
After spending a couple of hours on it. I found out that the problem is to
do with an default installation of Python 2.2 that comes with my ThinkPad.

After I removed these two environment variables zope will start:
TCL_LIBRARY=C:\IBMTOOLS\Python22\tcl\tcl8.4
TK_LIBRARY=C:\IBMTOOLS\Python22\tcl\tk8.4

RE: [Zope] Re: FW: Problem Starting Zope after Installation

2007-01-31 Thread Ken Winter
Eric ~

My Zope is up and running, thanks to you! It turned out there were two
other Python-related environment variables, both of which I deleted:

 PYTHONPATH =
%SystemDrive%\IBMTOOLS\utils\support;%SystemDrive%\IBMTOOLS\utils\logger

 PYTHONCASEOK = 1

So, just for the record (and the next unsuspecting ThinkPadder who comes
along), in all 4 ThinkPad variables had to go - the two above, plus the
first two you told me about:

 TCL_LIBRARY=C:\IBMTOOLS\Python22\tcl\tcl8.4
 TK_LIBRARY=C:\IBMTOOLS\Python22\tcl\tk8.4

~ Thanks a million

Do you have some environment variable called 'PYHTHONIGNORECASE' (or
something like that)?
Delete it and try to restart zope. You don't need to reinstall things. it's
a run time problem, not an installation problem.
