Your locks are timing out. I don't know where the 10 minute lock timeout
is coming from: the default value is 30 minutes.

[Zope] External Editor Doesn't Work with Firefox

2007-04-30 Thread Ken Winter
I have External Editor (zopeedit-win32-0.9.3.exe
 )
installed on my WinXP machine. It works fine with my IE6 browser. But with
Firefox 2.0, it doesn't.

Specifically, with the ZMI running in Firefox, what happens is:

1. I get the stubby pencil icons on editable Zope objects.
2. Clicking on the stubby pencils brings up that page in my selected
external editor (currently Dreamweaver, but I have tried this with other
tools and the results are the same). So far, so good.
3. But when I save changes from the external editor, the changes don't
make it back into Zope, and they don't show up on the rendered pages.

a. The changes do show up in the temp file that the external editor
saves to. So the problem is not with the external editor's file saving
abilities.
b. No error messages occur.
c. So the problem must be that the EE helper app is not picking up the
changes, or is not getting them back to Firefox.

My hunch is that I have failed to execute the following step in the External
Editor's Windows installation instructions
(http://www.plope.com/software/ExternalEditor/install-win32): "You can also
register it (zopeedit.exe) with other browsers directly." The reason I
haven't done this step is that I can't figure out how to register a helper
app in Firefox. After a lot of Googling etc, I'm still stuck.

The only clue (or not) I have to offer is that the file "C:\Documents and
Settings\Ken\Application
Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\uhpuzmf9.default\mimeTypes.rdf", which
apparently is the operative Firefox configuration file, has these relevant
(?) entries:

I have the same prob.  Crimson Editor wont do it when using
tabs.  You have to specify to open multiple instances in the
Crimson preferences.  Then it works fine.

Re: [Zope] External editor for ZMI

2005-06-27 Thread Nikko Wolf

I prefer:
emacs with ExternalEditor - to edit ZODB objects,
emacs with TRAMP - to edit native filesystem files via SSH, see:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/download/tramp/

emacs via FTP (with AngeFTP or with TRAMP) is also good for both of
these when configured. But be aware that content and authorization
strings are unencrypted over the wire for FTP, or HTTP (ExternalEditor
and ZMI).

If it's behind Apache HTTPS, ZMI or ExternalEditor should be secure.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

What about Zope FTP -- can it be secured?

Ciao,
Nikko

I've often used the WebDAV support for using standard file system
based editing tools on Zope content. How well it works depends
greatly on the WebDAV client you have (I guess the WebDAV client
authors would claim that it depends on the WebDAV server, but in this
case the server is fixed as Zope) On MacOSX, it works very well. I've
never been able to get Windows Web Folders to work successfully with
Zope.

External editor is an interface product that allows you to edit
Zope objects with your local editor (vi, emacs, nano, wordpad, etc)
but it does require installation of a helper product and Python on the
client machine.

RE: [Zope] External editor for ZMI

2005-06-23 Thread Jim Abramson
I do recommend Boa Constructor, which feels the most like you're
actually editing source code files (though you're editing the zope
objects in place). This program has actually saved my life.

Caveats: It has a few dependencies you'll need to track down, and it's
a little buggy/quirky. If you're not comfortable with a bit of DIY, or
you're relatively new to zope and/or python, it might be more trouble
than its worth.

The 'upload' mechanism in ZMI for most objects might do OK for you, then
you can use whatever editing environment you want. I'm sure a lot of
people have solved this particular problem for themselves in different
ways, based on their own editing needs/preferences. After a little
trial and error, of course.

Yeah, apparently 0.8 (and 0.9) writes some defaults into the homedir
file if it doesn't find it there instead of copying over what exists.
Maybe it should not do this.

Hi Chris. The ini that I was editing is located at:

c:\program files\zopeexternaleditor

Which is where the previous versions had been looking.

I looked in:

and yes there is another ZopeEdit.ini

Editing that resolves the problem

I wonder if this should be in the readme for upgraders? I.e there
can might be more than one .ini file.

Thanks a bunch!

Re: [Zope] Zope External Editor Problem

2005-06-21 Thread Chris McDonough
Where is the ZopeEdit.ini file you're editing? According to the 0.8
code it should pick up the editor defined in the config file up and use
it exclusively in preference to any extension- or content/type- related
executables. The code first looks in:

os.path.expanduser('~\\ZopeEdit.ini')

(which on my system resolves to "c:\Documents and Settings\chrism
\ZopeEdit.ini"), and then looks in:

os.path.join(sys.path[0] or '', 'ZopeEdit.ini')

(the package directory, presumably).

[Zope] Zope External Editor Problem

2005-06-21 Thread hpinson
Hello. I am having a problem with Zope External Editor 0.8 - the
helper app running on W2K. This problem occurred on upgrade from the
previous version.

When I lauch the external editor, by clicking the pencil, MS Word
lauches (and if I save, badly mangles the HTML.

In ZopeEdit.ini my editor setting has not changed:

# Uncomment and specify an editor value to override the editor
# specified by the operating system
editor = C:\Program Files\TextPad 4\TextPad.exe

I used to be able to change this path to Dreamweaver as well, but
when I do that, only MS Word launches.

What could account for this? Is there a solution to get Zope External
Editor working as it did prior to the upgrade?
