Looking into this, it seems Google Groups does not attach advertising to
the email messages, however when browsing the archives you do see
"sponsored links" which appear to be dependent on the message content.
Something else I noticed is that Google Groups does not currently
support any way to export the list archives. Google's Data Liberation
Front has apparently not penetrated this far.

I guess my personal preference is to stick with Mailman (configured more
securely) but switching to Google Groups would be OK too.
